Janet Jackson makes an appearance at the BET awards

We were teased with little snippets from a lot of Janet Jackson's hit songs, she eventually showed up to take the  Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual Award, but didn't perform. She accepted her award, said many thanks to her fans, husband and her parents who were in the crowd. More photos after the cut..

She said:

“It’s been a very long journey to this moment,” a grateful Jackson told the crowd. “My heart is so full. Thank you, God, for making everything possible. I’m so grateful for the support you’ve always given me, to my beautiful mother and beautiful father, and to my entire family. Your love is unbreakable. Many thanks to Jimmy and Terry for our incredible history and to everyone who performed in the tribute tonight. Twenty five years ago, we created Rhythm Nation hoping the world would be a better place, but today there is even more to be done. Last but not least to my loving husband and to all the fans, I’ve missed you so much and I love you so much. Thank you! Thank you, BET,” she concluded.
