Foreign media drags Nigeria's female team coach, Edwin Okon...

After Nigeria lost to the United States 1–0 in a Group D Women’s World Cup match on Tuesday night, Falcon coach Edwin Okon apparently refused to shake hands with American coach Jill Ellis.

Now he's being dragged by foreign media. I saw one in particular titled 'Meet Nigeria's handshake snubbing, no scouting, all praying embarrassment of a coach" which I found hilarious...though a little disrespectful which was published on Slate. Read after the cut...

  7. The coach was a huge disgrace, he said he never watched the US team play and instead of organizing his team he prefers to bend down praying.
He was a very big national embarrassment.

  17. If a coach doesnt show spirit of sportmanship,i wonder how he expects his players to exhibit same. This is a shame,no matter how u look at it.I listened to an interview woth the coach of tge US team
She has utmost respect for Nigerian team and she said she's not "good enough" to handle our team. This guy should suck it up biko. This is footy not vendetta game.

  18. But why bring this story when you showed no support for the ladies when they played the tournament? This coach is lucky he's only being called out for poor sportsmanship because by the time the team got around to playing the US, they had no game. They played defensive soccer to protect Nigerian territory around the goal keeper. There was no strategy, no plan smartly executed on the field.

  20. Naijas always Making excuses instead of finding a way to do better. And forever praying. Most of us Jst can't and refuse to accept defeat. Shame!

  23. The coach behaved like an idiot and a sore loser. I watch the video where he refused to shake the US coach after the game was over. USA coach offered her hand and this mumu he-goat blatantly refused to shake her hand. It was si embarrassing for me to watch this as a Nigerian. Useless man. If you can't prepare your team enough and you go to a serious and start praying for a miracle like you were doing. People will take you for a fool. Anytime the camera capturedhim, he as always making prayer gesture. Foolish man. All his team managed to do was play rough on the field, received yellow cards and got suspended. You have no one but yourself to blame.

  25. Defeat should always be accepted in the spirit of sportsmanship. You win some while you loose some. Ability to move forward and rose back to the occasion is the most important thing.
