WTF? Boko Haram leader makes TIME Most Influential People list

Is this a joke? Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau made TIME magazine 2015 Most Influential People list. Why is a terrorist in this list? Below is what TIME wrote about Shekau...
Most Americans do not yet recognize his name, but the citizens of Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, know Abubakar Shekau all too well: he is the most violent killer their country has ever seen. Shekau took over the terrorist organization Boko Haram in 2009 after the group had been weakened by Nigerian government forces. Shekau, who is believed to be in his 30s, began to stage increasingly daring kidnapping and killing raids on schools, churches and mosques thought by Boko Haram to be violating their interpretation of Islam.
The taking of over 200 schoolgirls in April 2014 brought Boko Haram into the international spotlight. By most accounts, Boko Haram has killed more than 10,000 people and is spreading into neighboring countries. Shekau’s latest action may finally summon a U.S. response: he has publicly aligned his group with ISIS, the terrorist group that holds territory in Syria and Iraq and has expanded its reach into Yemen and Libya.

  14. This is so wrong. A terrorist shouldn't be on the list. They should put people who are role models to youths and adults alike. They are giving this Shekau guy undue accolade. I don't like this.

  45. They quoted "he is the most violent killer in the Africa's most populous country. He has publicly aligned his group with ISIS, the terrorist group that holds territory in Syria and Iraq and has expanded its reach into Yemen and Libya"
Thus, he clearly exerts influence. Please check your dictionary for the meaning of influential and thank me later.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Well, he sure has impacted the world in a negative way.

    ReplyDelete
  50. This just confirms that they will make anyone and anything "most influential." So don't feel special when they make you one because, you have just been placed in the same league as mass murderers and child molesters

  112. Absolutely!!!! You've said it all.........from the Response I'm seeing, a lot of people will fail Jamb if this topic was put as a Question.

Influence is Influence. We must not always denote it with the Positive effects.

Actions of Shekau have affected us in several ways. Ask any LIB reader and those ranting now if they would spend their Vacations in Borno???. And you'd get responses Like "I Reject it". "God forbid"............... Has Shekau not influenced ur Judgement when it comes to your safety???? ......... INFLUENCE is the keyword here, NOT the Kind of Influence.

  113. Didn't he influence the death of more than a 100 thousand of Nigerian citizens?

    ReplyDelete
  114. I have always maintained that the African continent and specifically Nigeria will experience tremendous peace and economic growth if we restraint ourselves from this crazy western people. How can a man like Abubakar make the list of most influential people? Most of the economies or countries in the west sponsor terrorist group to destabilize such countries they have interest in their natural resources to allow them siphoned their resources. As the counties' indigenes fight themselves, their western sympathizers plays a double edge sword by given the terrorist ammunition while telling the govt that they are supporting them in the fight. After world II which brought two major cities of Japan to ashes, Japan closed their borders and depended on only home made item having little to do with foreign economies like US and Britain who were their major reason of downfall. But today America and Britain go to Japan for goods and services. This inclusion of Abubakar in the list of most influential people in the world should spell it clear that Boko Haram have strong western backing. Those reasons or points they for their including his name are so demeaning for such recognition for a man known for his serial killing. I weep for Africa continent and especially Nigeria, So sad for Africa...
