Pics: Nigerians in South Africa seek Asylum at Home Affairs office

To avoid being killed or injured, some Nigerians who live in areas where Zulu boys have unleashed terror ran to the Department of Home Affairs in Pretoria to seek refuge. There, they claim the security asked them for money before they were allowed to enter the compound. Is Nigeria that bad that people would rather live like this than come home?

  23. Linda I lived at the back of this Home Affairs office, even when there was no crisis, that place always overfull and extend to outside of the building, over 5000 would gather there on a Thursday to get asylum papers, even though only 100 will get it that day, 90% of those who got it pay up to 1500 rands (30k naira) to get it, so that's as always been the case at home affairs every Thursday, what saying in essence is that though there's been an attack on foreighners in Durban and Jozi, but this whole social media fake news and so many false information has blew this issue out of proportion, pls cerculate confirm news and stop caring people, thanks

  49. To be clear Linda, things weren't this bad in SA, you don't expect someone who has already set up a life in SA to come running back to nothing in Nigeria as soon as the attacks started. what they are doing now is their first and best line of action...

  58. Is just like telling you to leave lagos and your company or business and go back to nkwerre your village. My dear it is not easy, some are already established that they own companies and have lived for long in that country, running to the home affairs is better cus when every settles, they can be able to go back home. They can only come home if things got worst. I dnt know why blacks hate themselves, just like in nigeria were different tribes hate themselves.

  61. If I were Nigerian Government, I would convert Boko Haram to usefulness by flying them to South Africa to go and deal with those Zulu dawgs! As they are claiming beasts, when they jam a deadlier beast, body go tell them!So that next time they won't mess with Nigerians!.... That's a Machiavellian way of solving problems!!!

  62. Linda, don't be insensitive. There are people from the western world that have lived in Nigeria for years and even when some of our people were kidnapping foreigners they didn't run away. Why? Because this is home for them. It is not so easy to pack up and leave a place you have called home fo a while. Linda, you are in the media whether you accept it or not. Also people look up to you. You should be cautious about what you say and how you say it regardless of your position. Please exercise decorum. And, I'm a Nigerian that lives in Nigeria

  65. Linda its not everyone that has a "home" to go to.
    Go home and do what?
what if they are their families breadwinners?
what if they have SA wives like many do, and their children???
Its not easy to just tell someone to pack up and move. Many may have lived there for ages.

I am not in SA but these are most likely issues why!

Anyways I am also a Nigerian residing in Johannesburg and I must add that the issue of xenophobic attacks is worse with other nationals like the Ethiopians, Somalians, Zimbabweans and Malawians. Them no born them well to try that shit with the Nigerians here and get away with it in Jozi. We Nigerians are equally ready to match them "Fire for Fire"

  90. Anyone who go to a place like SA and get killed will go straight to hell. What are you doing in a country that is not welcoming to strangers. Must you be there? I do not believe there is any opportunity there that you cannot get here. The only problem is that want to we live abroad. This is the only country where people go for Thanksgiving in church for getting a visa to travel to go and slave in another place.
