Our response to Lai Mohammed's latest attack on Pres. Jonathan - Reuben Abati

Transcript response to Lai Mohammed's statement on president Jonathan's visit to Lagos on Thursday April 9th as articulated by Reuben Abati in an interview with State House Correspondents.
Lai Muhammed is wrong to say that the President came to Lagos to rig the Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, April 11. He is of course lying as usual. And rude. President Jonathan visited Lagos. He arrived on Thursday and left on Friday. People visited him. So what? Anytime the President is in Lagos or any part of the country, a lot of people come to pay homage to him. Nothing unusual happened during his last visit to Lagos. Senator Musiliu Obanikoro's visit to the President in Lagos is not something that anybody should use to play politics. Koro is a Minister of the Federal Republic. He came to see his boss.

Mr. Jimi Agbaje is the Governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos. I don't see how his visit to the President, who is also the leader of his party, the PDP, should become an issue.

Yes, Gani Adams also visited, but so did a lot of other people.

The President did not hold meetings with INEC officials, he did not meet with the police, or polling officials or with anybody who is involved in organising elections. So to say that the President went to Lagos to supervise the rigging of Saturday's election is most uncharitable and cruel.

After the Presidential election, the President immediately congratulated Gen. Buhari and the whole world has commended him for saving Nigeria. President Jonathan's sportsmanship, statesmanship and leadership saved this country at that critical moment. He has demonstrated his commitment to free and fair election, the rule of law and due process. He has shown that he is a man of character, honour and integrity. Nigerians generally are proud of him.  He has left a worthy legacy and shown a great example. That, obviously, is the narrative that Lai Muhammed and his masters want to change, so they are now cooking up meaningless tales.

Lai Muhammed should look for another target and leave the President alone. His fatuous tale does not make any sense. I repeat: we will like to advise that the APC should just leave the President alone. President Jonathan was a candidate in the presidential election; he did not rig the election. Why would he want to rig tomorrow’s elections?

Below is the statement APC released earlier in the day...(quite hilarious. A man who didn't rig his own election will make the effort to rig for someone else? lol). Read below...
APC exposes PDP’s rigging plan for Lagos, questions Jonathan’s commitment to credible polls
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has slammed the PDP over its desperation to capture Lagos State at all cost, including using fake result sheets which were flown in from Abuja for Saturday’s elections, warning that the people will resist any attempt to rob them of their votes.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the rigging plans are being led by President Goodluck Jonathan, who has already flown into Lagos where he has held a meeting with his point men, including Musiliu Obanikoro, Jimi Agbaje and Gani Adams.

It said that before the meeting, eagle-eyed Nigerians who are appalled by the PDP’s rigging plans have widely circulated on the Social Media the details of the planned electoral malfeasance, including the airlifting from Abuja to Lagos of a Black Kia Mohave SUV, with plate number DHQ 340, which was packed with election materials (especially result sheets).

”The meeting in Lagos was aimed at devising a strategy to distribute the fake result sheets that were packed into the SUV, which will be free to move around (because of its plate number) despite the restriction on vehicular movement during the elections.

”It is sad that the same President, who conceded defeat in the presidential election and then followed up with a speech in which he said he would like his ‘legacy’ of free and fair elections to endure, is the one who is presiding over a desperate move to steal the people’s votes on Saturday.

”How can President Jonathan’s ‘legacy’ endure when one of his last acts in office is a seeming vengeance mission to lead his party to capture Lagos, because the PDP sees the state as a cash cow that they can milk to death, with the party’s gravy train at the federal level having derailed?” the party queried.

”In their desperation over the Lagos election, they have shamelessly divided the people along ethnic, religious and regional lines, thus setting the stage for the condemnable hate speeches to which they have in turn latched on to further whip up primordial sentiments.

”The PDP cannot now seek to benefit from the problems it caused in the first instance. This party (PDP) and its leader, the President, have divided Nigerians in general and Lagos residents in particular more than any individual or group and at any time in history. If today things are being said that should not have been said, it is the direct consequence of the PDP’s divisiveness,” APC added.

The party advised the President to desist from any vengeance mission that will only rubbish whatever is left of his so called legacy of free and fair elections.

It urged all APC members and supporters, and indeed all the good people of Lagos, to be extra vigilant on Saturday to thwart the evil machinations of the fallen behemoth called the PDP.

”Lagosians, please come out en masse on Saturday and vote in a peaceful manner for a candidate of your choice. Say no to coercion, defend your votes and repudiate all architects of divisiveness and rigging,” APC said.

  1. EXPOSED!!!

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, Mr Ambode has finalised plans in secret meetings with the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lagos, Mr Akin Orebiyi, to disenfranchise non-indigenes, particularly Igbos, in the forthcoming elections this Saturday. The plans perfected in secret meetings held in a discrete location in VI, is to ensure that voting is delayed until the next day being Sunday in areas where Igbos are the predominant population in Lagos like, Festac Town, Satellite Town, Amuwo-odofin, Aguda, Okota, some parts of Suru-lere , amongst other places. It is calculated that since the Igbos are predominantly Christians, most won't come out to vote again on Sunday, after spending time waiting to vote on Saturday so as to give advantage to the APC's. candidate. Re-Bc to all non-indigenes on your list.

    1. Ever Wondered Why the Buhari/APC Transition Team is yet to be constituted?

I ll tell you the MAJOR reason why now. It is all centred around one man's obnoxious demands. I can tell you as an insider. As part of the merger agreements, the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria was to provide the VP slot. That agreement was honoured by GMB, even when it almost resulted in a Muslim/Muslim ticket.

I was a member of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change before the merger, GMB and Prince Tony Momoh are still my political leaders. I am a hardcore Buharist and believe strongly in the spartan ideals he stands for. GMB as President elect submitted the list of his transition committee to the party leadership before the Easter holiday with some notable names which we all crave to see at the centre. One notable names GMB put in that list which Ashiwaju rejected were Babatunde Fashola and Olasupo Shasore. The reasons for his decision were parochial. As usual in his selfish trademark, anyone who has disagreed with him politically is to be punished. Do you all remember that he almost deprieved Fashola a 2nd term in office in 2011 simply because he didnt kow-tow to his megalomania. This same man betrayed us in the CPC in 2011 because of his selfish interests and got ACN agents to openly canvass for Jonathan in the General election. Only Aregbesola revolted against that compromise.

Let us not be in a hurry to forget these his antecedents.

In the next few weeks, Asiwaju will be in for the biggest political shock of his life. After getting the VP slot, he now wants more. He wants to nominate Wale Edun to man the Finance Ministry, Mofe Boyo of Oando as Petroleum Minister/NNPC GMD. He has also asked to be given the Works Ministry slot.

Enough is enough. We must stop the greed of one man and put national interest first in all that we do.

No Linda, what's quite hilarious is how naive you actually are.You believe knowing a few politicians gives you an insight into how politics works.

ALL politicians rig.the best of the riggers comes out on top.INEC will do their best,we will do ours by voting.with our combined efforts,we can only reduce the extent of rigging.it can't be eradicated.

  51. The APC propaganda machinery has clearly outclassed that of PDP who despite having six spokesmen have not been able to match Lai Mohammed. If Jonathan went to Lagos to plan to rig the elections, what did Buhari go there to do. PDP should wake up because they owe 50% of their loss in the Presidential elections to social media manipulations where APC outclassed them mightily. Olisa Metuh is totally ineffective compared to Lai Mohammed who holds his post in APC.

On d one hand is Jonathan's entry and exit plans in and out of lagos which is always fraught with controversies and which as mentioned above and I believe it, is d root cause of d misguided statements and inciting comments causing divisiveness between d Yorubas and Igbos of recent. On d other hand is d possibility of a propaganda from PDP's opponents. Jonathan's visit to lagos before d presidential elections was evil in that it caused political unrest as he succeeded in sowing a seed of discord thereby heating up our political atmosphere, but what I don't know is if he would stoop so low as to be complicit in election rigging, I doubt that. He has made a good legacy for Himself, let him go and rest

The major thing we should commend the president about is that he congratulated Gen Buhari and brought down the tension. Is the card readers that changed the story, it was too late for the PDP. I can't wait to see president Jonathan go on assignments as an international states man. He deserves it.

  83. Mr Abati bati, your salary will soon stop. Almost all politician used to rig election, Mr president is not a saint, conceding defeat should not be seen as if , he has done something that has never happened in this world before, Although we commend Mr president for doing that due to the level of tension flowing in the country. However Mr president was defeated without option. Abati/ffk/okukpe and Pdp should stop advertising Gej congratulatory message or conceded defeat as if Nigeria belong to Gej.I rest my case

  97. Buhari was in Lagos to campaign for Ambode, Jona came to Lagos to have secret meeting with Koro master rigger after bode George failed him, Gani Adams of OPC to intimidate people in APC populated areas. Why is Jonathan purpose of coming to Lagos did not make know the way Buhari purpose of coming to Lagos was known to Everyone? Loser

  98. You idiots that called Lai Muhammed a liar all sorts of names. Am very sure that the achievement Lai Muhammed has non of your fathers has attained such success. Some of your fathers makes their money through rituals, Awon omo ale

  99. @ Eze Udemba. You are so correct. The unfortunate thing is that APC had a superior propaganda/ publicity machine. The PDP did not effectively utilize social media tools throughout this campaign. Example of this is Laila Stmd on facebook. She was obviously paid heftily by
APC. The unbelievable hate and inciting posts she has been posting on her wall leaves one gasping. For a woman who came on the scene as a spokesperson for the downtrodden, a pastorand a mother, her inciting and hateful posts have crossed the bar. The irony is that she has children from Hausa, Yoruba and Ibo fathers!
Another irony is that even though she calls on APC faithfulf and the Yoruba in particular to rise up against the Ibos in Lagos, she herself is a number 1 non indigene with a Lebanese father and a calabar mother!
Every Nigerian has the inalienable right to live , work and pursue peace and happiness in Lagos and to vote for whom they wish.
Reason must resume its seat!!!! We are a diverse and mulicultural people. That is the beauty of Nigeria and APC footsoldiers should go take a permanent seat.
I believe Nigerians who voted out Jonathan will soon be biting their fingers in anguish. They will remember these times as the last days when people could open their mouths and talk anyhow and write irresponsibly without consequences. They dont know the spirit they have voted to take over the reigns of this country. Siddon look.

  103. Lai lai mohamed or what do u call urself , is this an excuse to cause violence if PDP eventually win lagos state, which is likely to happen?
Why hv u not made any official statement.over ur OBA's intimidation and threat on the Igbo's resident in Lagos? But u are quik to raise a senseless alarm over GEJ's visit to Lagos.

  104. Laid Mohammed has forgotten to tell Nigerians why Buhari was in Lagos, and the reason for a secret meeting they had in VI. I expect lai Mohammed at his age to start laundering his image rather than engaging himself in all manner of propaganda. He should leave this job for the young ones. Sixteen years of APC rule in Lagos, lagosians can not boast common portable drinking water, but rather, Tinubu and his cronies has turned Lagos to their private company , and milking it dry. A time for change has come and Agbaje is the man. Jona should be left alone.

  107. This is foolish. The way Apc use disrespectful and derogatory words on the office of the president is quite disturbing. In the words of lai muhammad commanding a sitting president to desist... is to me very absurd. Buhari should openly chastise them for these eye service comments. Apc and Buhari will soon assume the seat they so much denigrated the occupier. I hope you won't complain when the mud you throw to another finds you more comfortable to stick to.
