its commitment towardspromoting healthy oral practice for a cavity free Nigeria,
Pepsodent, a leading household toothpaste, through its brush day and night
campaign, has announced plans to reach ten million children in the
country.
At the event held at National Assembly Complex, Sen. David Mark
called on young boys and girls to imbibe good oral hygiene & dental care to
guarantee that their teeth lasts a lifetime, and enhance their overall health
in their old age.
With the theme for this year’s WOHD‘Smile for life’. Mark said “For me it
is a personal project, that young boys and girls imbibe habit of keeping their
mouth clean by brushing their teeth twice daily.”
He noted that gum disease, cavities, oral cancer and so on are some of the dental problems that can cause bad breath and general tooth decay for young people as well as adults, but, which are preventable with proper health policies.

In his comment, Brand Building Director of Unilever Nigeria Plc,
David Okeme disclosed that 10m Nigerian children are being targeted in their
programmes for promoting healthy teeth in Nigeria.
“Unilever
made a commitment last year that we are going to work with the National Oral
Health Champion and Federal Ministry of Health to reach 10 million Nigeria
Children by 2020 with specific behavioural change programme that will help them
develop a right oral health profile.
“We are driving the message of brushing twice
daily. As an organization, we believe in doing business in a sustainable way.
For us we know that it takes a strong commitment to ensure a cavity free
Nigeria. We want a situation where every Nigerian, both child and adult, is
cavity free and therefore able to smile naturally “For us at Unilever, the
primary way by which we are pursuing our commitment today is by providing a
world class portfolio of brands. Close-up is number one toothpaste that is
practically in every home in Nigeria for over 3 decades. Recently we launched
Pepsodent Toothpaste in two variants: Pepsodent Cavity Fighter combines the
dual technology of micro calcium & fluoride to repair tiny holes that cause
cavities/tooth decay and strengthens the teeth, while Pepsodent Triple
Protection delivers three benefits of - Anti cavity, Whitening and Fresh breath
in just one Brush.
