Fleeing Boko Haram members drown in Lake Chad

Fleeing members of Boko Haram sect drowned in Lake Chad after Nigerian troops overpowered them during a counter operations in the North east. Spokesperson of the Defence Headquarters, Gen Chris Olukolade said this in a statement released today. Find the statement below
A large number of terrorists have drowned in the Lake Chad as they fled the heavy bombardment by Nigerian Air force heralding the advance of Nigerian troops on mission to flush them out of Baga. Not even the strategy of mining over 1500 spots with land mines on the routes leading to the town could save the terrorists from the aggressive move of advancing troops.
All the land mines were skillfully cleared one after the other. Eventually, the resistance of the terrorists collapsed and the land forces finally stormed the town in the early hours of Friday. Many of the terrorists died while an unknown but substantial number of them fled with various degrees of injury, in the series of encounter along the routes of advance of the as troops headed for Baga.

Apart from the 5 anti air craft guns and the rifles captured from the terrorists, over 34 motorcycles and 5 vehicles including trucks being used for operations by the terrorists were destroyed in the course of the fighting as troops headed for Baga.

The troops finally began clearing the terrorists from Baga on arrival in the town early Saturday morning. A comprehensive cordon and search phase of military operation has now commenced to enable troops mop up arms and ammunition and also apprehend any terrorist who might be hiding in the vicinity.

The exercise will also determine details of the casualties inflicted or incurred in the course of the operations to clear Baga and environ of terrorists. Similar exercise is being carried out in over 15 locations namely Gajigana, Ngaze, Ngenzai, Marte Junction, Mile 90, Yoyo, Kekeno, Kukawa, Cross Kauwa,, Kangarwa, Amirari, Kichimatari, Borokari Barati, Kauwa and other localities where troops have flushed out the terrorists in the operations preceding the entry to Baga.

The troops are now dominating and conducting aggressive patrols in the locations. The morale of troops remain high.

    5. THIS IS NOT TRUE! Why they think we are stupid. If the government wasn't behind BH in the first place why all of a sudden within one week they are fighting and capturing. Where is the proof that hundreds drowned. Which war in any world history has fighters drowned en mass? Unless they were on a ship. There weren't many BH in the first place, a good number of BH was the nigerian army themselves. Now they want to make it seem like they vanquished a lot it three weeks. If they could, then why did this president wait so long for the blood of Nigerians to be spilled. Jonathan needs to be impeached!

  19. U cnt credit jonathan wit dis even if is true, he should ave done dis long before now nd not cos he need vote. Why dont dis major olukolade tells d truth on how chad, cameron nd niger soldiers ave been d heros of dis war against dis terrorist instead of him trying to take all d credit to himself nd his oga? Dis is ungratefulness. We dat are followin dis up know dat nigeria soldiers are d weakest among d joint war against dis insurgent. Is too late for all dis paparazzi.

  40. for the benefit of some foolish readers here. It takes time to strategize against a well-organised terror group. it takes time to procure the weapons to fight them. it takes time to plan war when the chance that some innocent citizens' life would be wasted is high. It takes time to defeat terrorists. it takes time to plan cautiously so that your plans won't go public and diffuse into your enemy's camp.
People should learn to think with their brains and be less driven by sentiments. Long live Naija!

  42. APC won't be happy that the Nigerian army are regaining more territories formerly occupied by Boko Boys. When their Boko Haram boys are wiped off, they will not have anything to campaign about. It's obvious APC are the sponsors of Boko Haram. God will wipe off APC and Boko Haram.

I think it's all a plot by the presidency...There has been insurgency for so long and all of a sudden after postponing elections the same soldiers who claimed not to have weapons are defeating bokoharam and power stations are being commissioned.. We are not to be played by these politicians!!!
