Elections may not hold in troubled North east states - Jega

Chairman of INEC, Attahiru Jega says it may be difficult for them to conduct elections in three north-east states - Borno, Yobe and Adamawa next month. The states have been under Emergency rule for a while now
"A place like Borno state, unless something is done about those that have been displaced, even the time of the governorship election may be very very difficult, if not impossible under the circumstances. We are been realistic. We must say that it may be impossible to do elections everywhere and in every local government in every constituency in those three states" he said at a forum in Abuja today.
On the possibility of internally displaced people casting their votes during the elections, Prof Jega said
"First and foremost, we know that there are many Internally displaced persons in Nigeria on many causes but our focus is going to be on the North east zone and it will only be for internally displaced persons that are in that states" he said

  22. I think the caption is a bit misleading. The summary is that elections may not hold in every local govt. of every state, especially the Northeastern states. For example I see no reason why it won't hold in maiduguri or Yola.

  26. Nonsense.
It is a national election and every Nigerian
    should vote
No single Nigerian voter should be
    disenfranchised
It is the responsibility of the government of the
day to ensure that all Nigerians have a say on
who becomes their leader after May 2015
President Dr Jonathan can start by going to the
North East to assure them that they are still
    part of Nigeria

  51. The better chances for GEJ is elections doesn't hold in troubled states. In the North, they hold bulk of the population, which is likely to go for GMB, it has to be slashed for GEJ to Emerge
Good strategy Jega, ur loyalty will not go unrewarded

  70. the real reason for the present boko haram have started coming out. the bh is a PDP affiliate, an arrangement to disenfranchise some states in the north to enable jona continue in power. at least three states out of north is a good thing for his continuation cos he knows he is not going to get any vote from those states.
But imagine the trouble, pains and agony he has been causing people to achievement his selfish agenda. God judgement is awaiting u jonathan - u ll never go unpunished for ur wickedness. what a tragedy..

  71. Jega should not even think about that, every eligible person should be given the privilege no Nigerian should be deprived of their right as a citizen. The FG should put necesary mercenary on ground for people's safety.
