Let's talk about this N21billion that was raised for GEJ's campaign

So on Saturday Dec. 20th, PDP Governors, Senators, Business moguls, technocrats, multinationals and others donated a total of N21.27billion to support Jonathan's re-election campaign. (read here).

What happened is normal and done everywhere in the world...presidential candidates gather friends and associates to donate towards their campaign. But what I don't get is a private individual like Tunde Ayeni, the chairman of SKYE Bank donating N2billion. So, if you donate that amount to the president, is it for something you will get later from his administration or it's just goodwill?

  8. The question is where did the MD of a bank get 2b if its not from the coffers of the bank etc.yet efcc chases fish stealers when Nigerian thieves are parading in broad day light.
we have other crisis ridden areas, health, education boko and our private sector moguls can't come together to support the government to deal with these.yet they are the main beneficiaries of the governments contracts.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Goodwill my ass!! If he could donate 2 billion without a blink then it means theres so much more from whence that came. EFCC wouldnt go after day light , open, conspicuous armed robbers with " pen" like these. These are the people whose wealth should be checked. Do they have the money, yes. Is it normal to donate, yes. Donating 2 billion ? No of course not!

  10. Truth is, these donors are actually investing in a business call "Presidential Seat"... Certainly, every farmer seeks to reap rich harvests... And that's why they would do ANYTHING to ensure that Mr. President returns... Cos all their monies are at stake in that investment... If Ayeni is donating 2bn, from where did he get it? The next thing we'll hear is, Skye bank is being shut down or merged or sold (there's dat one word i can't seem to remember), for crazy reasons.. Unfortunately, who will probe? So sad, that those who ought to question such men, are same as the beneficiaries of their loot.

  16. Lindiway they just made a huge investment, expecting bountiful harvest from a corrupt administration.
This is why this government will continue to be corrupt, this is why he care less about people that loot public treasury, but more concerned about people that share divergent public opinions.
Look at the Niger state governor, how much has he donated to his fellow northerners displaced by Boko haram.
    It won't last,this corrupt administration won't last.

  28. In truth no one donates money in vain for political processes like this, it comes back in form of appointments, projects, influence, political recognition for his own support later etc.

It happens everywhere though. I think it's normal and if Jonathan wins they will sure get more than that.

Just like Oprah Winfrey and Obama, it might not just be support in case only.

Good luck to them after investing in someone you believe in.

There ain't nothing like that in politics in Nigeria, to be candid(my opinion) I think all d monies are tax payers money,GEJ is just using all dis peeps to launder money,no one ever donated money,GEJ is the brain behind all dis scams,I dey siddon look, what if he fails,he didn't win? What happens?is Nigeria going to war?big big question(s)..

    ReplyDelete
  49. Surely he will expect something in return...dem no dey dash person that kain money...but my own concern is how 21 PDP governors could contribute Fifty Million Naira EACH (which is over $200,000 US per person), in a country where there is so much unemployment, insecurity, poverty, bad roads, unstable power supply...name it! I wonder when Nigerians will start holding their public officers accountable for this type of careless, self-centered and insensitive spending!!!

  58. In politics, there is no gift without benefit. The president receiving such huge amount of monetary gift from this governors actually puts him in a tight corner because he'll owe them.
And besides, this people could donate such huge amounts of money to GEJ campaign, but can't do so to fight and tackle the rising insecurity in the country. What a shame!

  109. I’ve never seen a nation like this, God! State Governors who are owing workers salaries can afford to donate 1.5bn without blinking an eye0 Even if Buhari had no good pedigree with nothing to offer, Nigeria deserves a fresh break from PDP’s demonic stronghold. Boy Jerry hasn’t grown up obviously. He admitted that the contest will be keen since they’ve perpetuated themselves in power for 16 yrs with nothing to show yet gave 5bn hoping to prolong incompetence till 2019. They’re asking Nigerians to tighten their seat belts for austerity yet they lavish billions before hungry, poor and frustrated us with pomp and pageantry. May God judge every individual and household that will vote for Jonathan next year.

    ReplyDelete
  137. For something he'll get later obviously! Which kain goodwill.mtcheeeeeww.if I hear!! Moving on jare!

    ReplyDelete
  138. Yeah Linda, AGREED it's normal! But my question is, those governors that donated N50M each! From which account? How much are they even earning? So they are so rich that they can afford N50m and still wanna be governor to enrich their pockets? Take Fayose for instance, he just got there and he's already donating N50m, how much is he earning!
Okay fine, if we say they are all rich before, why WASTING such amount of money on something we all know will be rigged eventually even without raising a kobo! Oh, I get, the raised money will be used to BRIBE the needed people! Wait, can this ever happen in a civilised world? Governors coming out to donate! Donate what? Ur father's money? People are suffering and you all donating our money for frivolous activities! Who needs that sh*t? U can imagine POWER sector also donating money! Power! Of all sectors! What a shame!
As for the individual, the Skye bank man, why are we surprised? We shouldn't! Someone is gonna be the minister of finance naw, someone is gonna be the governor of CBN naw, someone will be the auditor naw and someone won't wanna end up like Cecelia Ibru! It's all tactics!
Nigeria! Only and I mean ONLY God can help us but what are we also doing? Just come here and comment? See what happened in Burkina Faso naw, if we don't rise up and act, the looters will keep looting while the poor will keep getting poorer!
I rest my case! Whoever this stone hit should not be angry but rather think about it.

  141. Linda this your question get as e be ohhh, is it that you ar looking for how to tarnish GEJ? How can u ask such stupid questions, y ar u making disturbing insinuations? He has d mony and he chooses what he will do with his mony. You that has been giving LIB mony all week is it that it is to get something from us or goodwill. Please stick to blogging and leave politics ohhhh, i hve said my own, if u like post it, the last comment i made too u didnt post it. Pride goeth before a fall, leave politics for those who play dirty.

  145. Gej will repay him with a post wen re-elected in 2015..aunty linda it is called political investment

    ReplyDelete
  146. Goodwill, or is he d only individual person?

    ReplyDelete
  147. Simple they will be given contract to recoup the money donated, or something to supply, but in one way or the other they must be compensated.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Don't u know this is an example of why we had the oil subsidy scam and embezzlement running into trillions in the first place and the president swept the probe report under the carpet. The financiers will definitely continue to milk us dry after the donations like before. Nigerians pls think>>>>>> 21 billion naira is like giving 2.1million naira to 10,000 families. We don't know numbers in dis country that's why when we hear this huge numbers embezzled through corruption over years, we often sound less shaky.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Mr Ayeni has aspirations to be the next CBN governor hence why the ridiculously generous donation...

    ReplyDelete
  150. Oh please, dis is just a simple case of 'scratch my back and wait for me to scratch yours'....

  151. Of course the 2billionis for what he can benefit from PGJ re-election

  152. The Cabal that has a stranglehold on Nigeria.... Nigerians be wise and vote out theses thieves.

    ReplyDelete
  153. This kind of craziness only happens in Nigeria; an individual donating over £600,000. I can still understand an organization but individual should be a NO NO NO. To what end?? These people should all be probe by EFCC. This should be part of the job description of EFCC but rather most of the people they prosecute are regular people defrauding less 10,000,000 SMH!!

    ReplyDelete
  154. It's just biz... err body is sowing to reap a harvest later as is done err where in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  155. This is total waste of money. So many people are refugees in their own county and even state without money and water and some sycophants gather together to donate 21billion. This is bullshit and show the lack of responsible party in PDP.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Linda, this is not an issue you should be seeking for our opinion on as it is NOT a new thing in politics. Even in the US, people donated to Obama's election. Corporate organizations and individuals donated to Obasanjo also during his time.
So why is this STRANGE to you.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Politics in Nigeria is business. So sad, because these people must by all means get their ROI.

    ReplyDelete
  158. He should please give me job. He is a businessman and am sure he will receive more than that back.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Little minded brothers and sisters. A donation is a donation.

    ReplyDelete
  160. OMG! Is dis country or wot. No job, light n good road. Yet they donate #21bn for election. Go punish u all. U'll fail.

    Ekiti boy say so

    ReplyDelete
  161. It was a free will donation, it wasn't by force

  164. A country where the workers earn 18000 a month and here we're deceiving ourselves saying this administration is working. 21billion naira for campaign!!! Oh my goodness. We have people in the northeast who are homeless, hungry, out of school,no hospitals and etc as a result of the insurgency on ground(boko-haram) and they're donating such humongous amount for just a campaign!!! MEHN THIS ADMINISTRATION is FUCKED!!! I believe many of those donors donated on DURESS!!!

  166. SKYE Bank is a Public limited Company and as such, it's operations are regulated by CAMA[Companies and Allied Matters Act], The Chairman cannot just donate that kind of huge money for an election purpose...reasons are firstly, CAMA prohibits the donation of money by a company to any political party which the bank has just done. Secondly, that huge amount of money is it frm the chairman 's personal pocket or the bank's? If frm his, well he is free to do wat he likes with his money however if from the bank, did the entire shareholders[every one who has bought the bank's shares while it was offerd to the public] of the bank adopt the resolution by way of majority voting to donate the money. This are some of the legal questions the bank wil have to answer. I rest my case

    ReplyDelete
  167. There should be campaign finance laws that put caps and limits on how much candidates can receive from donors. In some countries, politicians go to jail for breaking those laws.

    ReplyDelete
  168. I don't believe anybody donated anything that substantial. In most likelihood, GEJ used names to divert public funds to his campaign coffers. Because seriously, who's Jerry Gana and his friends? Where did they get 5 billion? Is it not too much coincidence that the Federal government cannot pay its workers including the soldiers risking their lives for the country? We get tens of calls everyday from soldiers inquiring about their account status!

  169. Linda why don't u post my comments

  170. wat exactly is ur motive behind this question? ... lovers of trouble... creatively stirring unnecessary thots in d minds of everyone... God will judge us all ... not only our leaders... the press... all nigerians... our judgement is coming!!! ... so if u lyk think u re d judge dat can induce, deduce, instigate all the negative air out of ur anger, ignorant info and thinkin... its not everything u talk about... may God hav mercy and not judge us for our ignorant or mayb intentional followership errors

  179. Before you eat the president alive. Av you seen how the media has been against Jonathan for the past 3 years? Have you seen all the weapons with bokoharam used to destroy this administration. How much do you think has been invested in these two sectors? Just leave Jonathan alone. When he rules again, it will be clear to u guys that he is not dumb afterall. He is a guy that gets what he wants

  180. GEJ and his supporters are just deceiving themselves not Nigerians. Posterity will never forgive this man and his companions.

  181. The oil subsidy scam of years back and subsequent industrial corruption was used to support the financiers of the last election and the probe report swept under the carpet by the presidency. 21 billion naira is 2.1 million naira for 10,000 families. bcos we are naive in regards to numbers, they keep enjoying the loot with little reactions from us. The will use the next four years to keep looting in multiple folds to get their money back.

  182. #BringBackMycomment Linda, do something about our comment. It always take too long b4 comments are visible.
Employ more hands to make the job more easier for you.
As for the donations, they are investing with the hope of reaping the dividends after GEJ (God forbid) return to Aso rock

    ReplyDelete
  183. in this hard times and yet, they could raise N21.2 Billion for just a campaign! my question is, i hope FIRS will tax that money and the tax accrued to be used to help our economy?
