Officer who shot unarmed teen resigns from Ferguson police force

Darren Wilson, the officer who shot and killed unarmed teen Michael Brown has resigned from the Ferguson Police force. Wilson resigned yesterday November 29th, 5 days after a grand jury decided not to indict him in the fatal shooting of Brown. Though he has been on administrative leave since the incident on August 9th.

ABC News obtained a copy of Wilson's letter of resignation. See it after the cut...

The letter reads:
"I, Darren Wilson, hereby resign my commission as a police officer with the City of Ferguson effective immediately. I have been told that my continued employment may put the residents and police officers of the City of Ferguson at risk, which is a circumstance that I cannot allow. For obvious reasons, I wanted to wait until the grand jury made their decision before I officially made my decision to resign. It was my hope to continue in police work, but the safety of other police officers and the community are of paramount importance to me. It is my hope that my resignation will allow the community to heal. I would like to thank all of my supporters and fellow officers throughout this process."

    1. Of course he can afford to. When his white supremacist friends donated over half a million bucks to his "defense" fund.

    1. Peace? That oaf didn't think he did anything wrong by shooting to death an unarmed black teenager! It's someone who accepts that he's done wrong that will have a guilty conscience, and you can then pray that he finds peace.

  32. My fear is these shootings have opened a hunting season on young unarmed black men. When these white guys shoot and kill them, they gain notoriety and fortune with impunity. Wilson has raised 500k for personal expenses and legal fees and made another 500k on his 1st interview. White guys like him are putting 2 n 2 together to realize these murders are lucrative.

  33. And he could not apologize????? Everyone reaps what he sows.

  35. So so sorry he died. Nobody will ever want their child or children to die that way. If he did something wrong, let him face the law. But one thing nobody is talking about is what the dead boy did before he was shot. He went to rob a shop and when the owner of the shop tried to stop him, he pushed him. Nobody is saying how stealing is bad. We shouldn't put ourselves in a compromising situation. If he had calmly bought the cigarette, the killing wouldn't have happened. Like the saying goes, we shouldn't put ourselves out there to be raped and when the rape takes place, we start shouting rape. Darren would've been able to arrest Michael without killing him but if Michael didn't rob a shop he wouldn't have met Darren. So people, let's stop shouting murder and stop putting ourselves in a compromising position.

    1. Go and check your facts again Anon 2:49pm, Darren didn't know Michael was the person from the store cctv until after he killed him. That fact has been confirmed by the police force in front of the press. So all your jargons even though sensible in the right context but very incorrect and misleading. The guy killed the boy because of his ego because he wasn't strong enough to tackle him alone, not because the boy's prior crimes. Itcould have been any other bunch of black guys without any prior records he stopped that fateful day and could have still lost his temper because he had no legal grounds to hold them against their will to claim something random like obstruction, attacking a police officer, jaywalking etc and he's not physically fit enough to tackle them down in order to falsely cite them for any of those things, he would also have pulled out his gun and shot them. Don't kid yourself, there are good cop's out there; but there are also dirty ones who harass people for everyday and throw them in cells by making stuff up just to throw people, especially minorities in jail. There are videos everywhere showing dirty copd in action. You can search for and watch them.
