House Committee members walk out on IGP after he refers to the Speaker as 'one Alhaji Tambuwal"

House Committee Members this afternoon walked out on the Inspector general of police, Sulaiman Abba, after he refused to address Speaker Aminu Tambuwal properly when he appeared before the House of Representatives Police Committee today after several days of ignoring their invitation

According to Sahara Reporters; while trying to explain why his men invaded the National Assembly last week, the IGP said 'they had credible intelligence that some thugs had planned on causing mayhem at the resumed sitting of the house."

Now here's where it gets interesting...lol. The IGP said 'one Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal led a group of thugs to overpower the security at the first gate. A move he claimed led the police to lock down the second gate and fire a canister of teargas.

His reference to the “Speaker of the House as “one Alhaji Tambuwal” made the committee members mad. Continue...

They asked the IGP to properly address the speaker of the house according to protocol but Mr Abba said the case of the speaker was in court and as such he wouldn’t like to comment further on it.

The committee member refused to proceed with the hearing until the IGP properly addressed the speaker. They said as long as he refuses to do so,  they too would no longer recognize him as IG. They argued back and forth and the members walked out on the IGP.

  15. This is the impunity and disregard to rule of law that has characterized this administration, the court ordered a return to the status quo after the IG withdrew the security details of the Speaker, but instead of to obey that they went ahead to desecrate the hallowed chamber by locking out elected representatives.
I don't understand how Hon Leo Ogor the deputy Majority leader and even the house majority leader still refer to Tambuwal as Mr Speaker and a mere appendage of the presidency refuses to do same, its quite a pity.
When Nigerians during late Yar'adua's administration resisted the attempted hijack of the govt by the first lady Turai and Aondoaka,we insisted the right thing be done not mainly coz of our love for GEJ, but because we want the constitution and rule of law to be respected.
The House of Assembly just like the executive is a separate arm of the government and its imperative the sanctity should be respected, for the good of our nascent democracy.

If you read through I do not want to use any foul language on you. But Trust me, u deserve one. This is the height of injustice and insults on Nigeria. Why would the police boss treat the No 4 man of Nigeria in such a dissed manner simply bcos he deflected from a party to another.... Wait a minute, the last time I checked, he wasn't the CJ. So what's all this brouhaha. Let's vote in the right candidate(s) comefFebruary 2015 and beyond.

  46. Where in the world have heard of such impunity, policing has no bisness with politics. None whatsoever. Other policing institutions are upgrading in ideas, weaponry and invention. What is ours doing?Going to the house to drag whether he is the sitting speaker or not. Now they have become the judge, jury and the executioners. That is why they change them like hand bag because they have nothing to offer .

    ReplyDelete
  47. Well, like all his predecessors, mr police boss has chosen to follow Aso rock. When the lawmakers decamped from LP to PDP no policeman blocked the gates, now the IG has turned himself to both the interpreter and executor. Please if you are less informed about a particular topic, you can simply 'waka pass' and not leave ignorant comments. Carefully read the ambiguous Nigerian constitution carefully, then you will understand the stupidity that oozes off the actions of the Nigerian police force and the obvious bias of their actions, little wonder we have had to even surrender their primary job to the military.

It is only in Nigeria that men and women of questionable and uncircumcised character can attain such a sensitive position. But am not suprise bcos mere looking at his face, one can simply see n feel confusion backed up with madness.I pity d black fool called Igp.Only a product of corrupt institution can produce such. Our police stinks!!

  55. Really funny behaviour from our so-called honourables. They constituted a committee to investigate what they called inversion of the national assembly. Simply because the IG refused to address Tambuwal as speaker, the committee members walked out of somebody they invited to help in their investigation. This goes to show that they are clueless, un focus and easily distracted. You hardly see any investigative panel that won't meet brick wall, but when this happens, how you handle it without frustrating the investigation shows how focus such committee is. I wonder if this won't be the end of the so-called investigation. How can they now re invite him again. The actual winner is the IG. He went there worked on their mind so they can frustrate the proceeding themselves, guess what? They simply followed his script.

  57. And this is the IGP! SO HOW DO THOSE UNDER HIM BEHAVE. He is definitely not educated and fit to hold that position. HE IS BEEB USED AS TOOL.
How much have offered him or paid him. Not that the politicians we are defending are any better themselves, its now they pay attention to what the law says.
How about law forbid you from back-hand, kick backs, stealing, corruption.
Not one of them are saying the salary they are getting is UNJUST TO NIGERIANS,that they will like to reduce their package to mirror the state of the country.
And MR $1b food budget knows he has nothing to offer Nigerians. This is not a functioning country yet they want to keep it a union.

  58. Just reading the comments on here you can see the divide amongst Nigerians along ethnic lines. DO WE REALLY THINK US Nigerians can get along. Why are we still pretending that we are a country.
