Landlord adds 3 more floors to bungalow...tenants are concerned

Tenants and others who live near this building are concerned about it after the house owner started adding a 3rd floor years after he added two floors to the building. Shey you people understand my English? I'm tired jor...:-). Read the mail I got below...a second mail I got concerning this building..
"This house was built over 30 years ago as a bungalow. About 10years ago, the landlord added 2 floors to the  building. To everyone's  surprise, he is adding another floor to it. I am writing this because of the rate at which houses have been collapsing. The tenants cannot afford a better housing, so the least the government can do is try and prevent another disaster from happening because of greed. The house is on One Day road, off Agbani road, Enugu."

  28. I don't believe this, the original plan of the building should be looked into. Based on my experience, a building designed as a bungalow cannot carry additional two suspended floors without obvious signs of distress. Observe the cantilever slab at the LHS of the pix... No block work can withstand such moment induced due to eccentricity without failure. So, it was probably designed to carry such load, but authorities should review the original working drawing, and the general structural disposition.

  56. If the foundation of the house was made for a 3 storey building, then there is no cause for alarm. Although the authorities should ascertain the foundation is right.

  59. this is just crazy, some people just do things without using their brains, i can bet the foundation is not strong enough buh the landlord or the stupid construction workers will convince themselves that it is possible

  60. What are the authorities in the state doing about that structure with the greedy landlord. Why are they adding more floors without considering it was against the original design. It is only in Nigeria that people willingly put himself into trouble, at the end they call devil as being the cause. dam you all...........

  61. As a property consultant, I advise you to start looking for another accommodation. And move out FAST!

  62. Lagos State government should rush there before that landlord kill people.

    ReplyDelete
  63. If the foundation is not deep enough and the structural walls are not strong enough that house will definitely collapse.
