Explosion rocks Edo state

Below is a report from NAN about the explosion that occurred in Benin, Edo state on Saturday
An explosion rocked a residential estate in Benin, the Edo State capital Saturday, the state police command said Sunday.
The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Ejiroro Ahwara, confirmed the attack on Denis Osadebey Avenue, in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin on Sunday.

He said the “Command received information that at about 10: 30 p.m. on Saturday that there was an explosion at Dennis Osadebey Avenue, Benin City.’’
Mr. Ahwara said that men of the Special Anti-Bomb Squad and patrol vehicles were immediately drafted to the scene of incident.

He explained that preliminary investigation revealed that items suspected to be Improvised Explosive Device, IED, made up of two tiger batteries of 15 volt each connected to long wire, was thrown into the mini-estate from outside.

Mr. Ahwara said the explosion affected the ceiling boards at the security post in the estate as well as a part of the main gate.
He explained that the impact dug a small hole at the entrance gate, but stated that “luckily, no life was lost”.

“The IED used in the attack has been recovered by the Bomb Disposal Unit for analysis, while some suspects have been arrested”, he further stated.

  28. The residence is the gatepost of an Eye clinic belonging to Ize Iyamu's wife who was formally a chieftain in APC, but decamped to PDP months ago. He has been making all efforts to make the state un governable for the comrade governor. He has always been in the political sphere of Edo state since 1999 and was a former SSG to the infamous Lucky Igbinedion Government who looted Edo state. The fallout with Oshio was because he wasn't sure Oshio would support him to be Governor in 2016. He instigated the decamping of 4 APC members to PDP. What has been happening in the state including the lynching to almost to death of Rasak Momoh are adjudged to be politically motivated. After the bomb blast he came out to accuse Comrade. Issues raised are why would he accused comrade when police are still doing investigation?Did he mastermind this bomb last to garner sympathy and to increase his relevance in PDP and the state? What would he do if after all these imbroglio, he doesn't get party nomination in PDP?Time will tell if Ize Iyamu and his presidency cronies would win the war against Oshio, who has improved the living standard of Edo people.
