Nigeria reportedly records new Ebola death in Port Harcourt

According to a report on Sahara Reporters, a doctor resident in Port Harcourt who treated a diplomat that had direct contact with late Patrick Sawyer in Lagos, died last week Friday August 22nd from Ebola virus disease. Ironically, the diplomat he treated is still alive.

The unidentified doctor had taken the diplomat to an undisclosed hotel in Port Harcourt to secretly treat him after the diplomat failed to turn himself in during the search for those who had direct contact with the late Patrick Sawyer.

The late doctors wife has reportedly fallen ill and has been quarantined in Port Harcourt. Continue...

Meanwhile the hospital where the doctor works, Good Heart Hospital as well as the hotel the diplomat was secretly treated has been shut down and sealed by the Rivers state government.

The Minister of Health who had on Tuesday August 26th announced that Nigeria had only one case of Ebola is expected to make a statement today August 28th regarding this new development.

    1. Not the diplomat! It's the foolish doctors that should be brought to life and killed again. Why is it the supposedly enlightened ones that are greatly foolish! He refused to turn himself in and u took him to an undisclosed location to treat him? Did he pay u 10billion dollars? That u could do such a terrible thing? The minute he confirmed the diplomat had ebola as a doctor it was his right to report the guy to the right authorities. I'm just so darn upset right now. Very foolish and stupid doctor!

  8. I wouldn't want to speak ill of the dead, but he died as a result of greed. I'm sure the diplomat must have promised him huge sums of money which made him agree to treat the diplomat at the hotel instead of the quarantine center.
May his soul rest in peace.

  31. D doctor's identity & that of d hotel should be disclosed. Every contact with d doctor both from home, work, church & others shld be quarantined including all d staff of that hotel. Hotel customers present at that time shld not be left out. Then afterwards, the hotel mgt should be sued for allowing such. I wonder how much d diplomat paid d doctor. D diplomat shld also be disclosed and sued to court for endangering lives of innocent citizens. Now he has become that which Patrick sawyer is to Nigeria. It's inly God that can help him in this life, otherwise he is ruined. If naija covers it for money, d moon & sun will continually deal with him.

So he can infect everybody at the police station or wherever they take him to? I think the country should quickly pass a bill to immediately shoot anybody who aids and abets patients. Also, the hotel might not have known about the situation, can't imagine how many people would have been exposed. The man would have been using the bathroom ang having roomservice come in to clean evey other day.imagine the soakaway was blocked.......plumbing has never been so dangerous

I believe now you have see the reason behind the sacking. The truth is that resident doctors are bunch of hungry doctors as they would do anything for the cash. Now the mumu doc. is dead leaving his wife and everyother person he might have came in contact with hanging on the dead list.Lord have mercy on Nigeria

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Funso Samuel, is it that you can't reason or you're just naturally dim? So you think the sacking of resident doctors would have helped avoid this? Instead of you to be campaigning for their salaries to be increased so that the so-called "hungry doctors" can stop being hungry and continue to help save lives. FYI, out-of-work /underpaid doctors would be more prone to taking gigs like this type in port harcourt in order to make ends meet, especially with the kind of unimaginable compensations they wold have been promised by these extremely rich patients (diplomats). If the governing body is filled with people like you, no wonder the country is the way it is. We are in hot soup!

  60. If this is true, then it is pure selfishness on the side of the diplomat in question and greed & carelessness on the side on doctor. How much could he have been offered to take such risk. Now he has put the lives of the patients he attended to after contact with the diplomat. The entire hotel, her guests and her employees, the doctor's colleagues at the hospital and his entire family too are also now at risk. I'm quite sure He would be a young man yet to be 40.

If it is indeed true that the late doctor went secretly to treat the ECOWAS staff in a hotel then he caud his death am sorry to say. If he was open with his dealings why wouldn't he have treated him in a hospital now see what grief he has caused his family and others. His wife is now quarantined and probably they have kids as well and what about staff hospital staff where he works. If we are not careful we could end up being the cause of more EVD spread. Enough said. Let's all be wise please while we ask for God's mercy let's also do things right no matter how difficult they may seem.
