In the best case scenario who knows how this whole thing went down, may be Daniel was the first person that made the first move and pursued her.
People fall out of love when a man leaves a woman for another woman he just stopped loving the last one.

As much you blame Stella you guys forgot that Daniel had the greater responsibility he was married with a child and Stella was single by widowhood and divorce.
