Lagos state government has introduced a new leave regime for
all male and female civil servants in the state. Henceforth, all male civil servants whose wives give birth are entitled to a 10-day paternity
leave while female civil servants had their maternity leave extended from 3 months to 6 months.
The new leave regime was announced today by the Lagos State Head of Service, Mrs Josephine Williams at a press conference held at the Baguada Kaltho Press Centre, in Alausa, Ikeja.

"A female officer shall be entitled to 24-weeks maternity leave with full pay in case of her first two deliveries. The said leave shall commence, at least two weeks before the expected delivery date; a male officer, to who a new baby (or babies in case of multiple births) is born shall be entitled to 10 working days" she said.
She added that subsequent deliveries after the second baby by any employee
will only get 12 weeks maternity leave for a female officer while
the men will not be entitled to the 10-day leave.
Special adviser to the Lagos state Governor on public health, Dr Yewande Adeshina, said the 6 months leave will enable women complete the mandatory months required for breastfeeding new born babies.

ReplyDeleteI was just about limping for joy when my inner goddess tapped my left shoulder to remind me I work in the private sector and therefore cannot benefit. Poor me... rubbing my eye and taking the next available sit.
ReplyDeleteOmg! U just made my day...by making me laff! Ur so funny, but it is true. Let's get a job with the state gov't. Lol. Mo-1

ReplyDeleteGOOD NEWS!
ReplyDeleteTHANK GOD!
Wow! Quite considerate of them.
ReplyDeleteGood of them to put the men into consideration, we need rest too coz the amount of protein lost during creation is quite much.
~BONARIO~says so via NOKIA LUMIA
The leave is not for you men to rest... it's for you to help the woman o!
DeleteIt's only 3% of the men that will actually help their wives out, the rest will use it to chase babes since Madam is indisposable, diaris God ooooo.
DeleteThank you very much anon 11:54pm! Exactly my thoughts when I saw the time allowance for men. They already have time to aggressively run after girls while their wives are heavily pregnant or home with a new born when they weren't even given any days off at work. Now that they're being given days off....... Lord help us.
DeleteDis is good.. doubt if private companies wil accept it

Wow dis. Is gud, thumbs up to fashola on ds 1
ReplyDeleteThis is a welcome idea, but six months is too much, the private companies will never accept this and why just 10 days for the men? what is the family do not have any one to assist, will the man use only 10 days to help the wife at home?
ReplyDeleteIts not for private company. It's for lagos state civil servants
DeleteHow wud u say 6 mnths is too much, no time is too much to nurse a newborn, abt u saying 10days is too much, u shud count ur blessings cos men weren't entitled to paternity leave before.
DeleteI see,Emmanuel u brought Ur selfish body here 6months is too much for women why are u complaining abt the 10days not being enough?oh u wish d 6months is for men?its simply get pregnant have the baby nd the 6mnths will be yours in full mbok.
DeleteOh! Hw I love dis declaratn. Pretex4luv@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteThat's okay, but would it apply to private organizations? Cos that's where it matters most.
ReplyDeleteso so loving this, nice one

ReplyDeleteNice one Fashola! who said it is too much? When you have your own baby, then you will know what motherhood entails.
ReplyDeleteMy love, we will have enough time wen u put to bed
ReplyDeletegood development
ReplyDeleteAnd what is Dr.yewande insinuating????. That it is only the first and second new borns that deserves 6 months baby breastfeeding. I don't thing its a good reason for initiating this, though the idea is really nice.
ReplyDeleteGood news but employers won't employ married women again...
ReplyDeleteSays smashing B...

ReplyDeleteChildren go full lagos more jare......
ReplyDelete~@iamJbankz Olamide's PA~
10 days for fathers???it's well
ReplyDeleteVery progressive. Kudos to the decision makers. Full pay for 6months may be too heavy on the state and taxpayers. Perhaps the last 3months could be half pay.
ReplyDeleteNawa o, even when govt is trying their best to make life easy for us all, some ppl who probably dnt fall within d benefiting group will say some unnecessary things sha ni. God dey!

ReplyDeleteThis is good news, Fashola we love yoooooouuuuuuu
ReplyDeleteall you guys that are saying good news are all illiterates and sexists...this world is all about gender equality how will you give a man ten days and a woman six months?!!! Shame on the lagos government they're soo sexist. No be the man and woman get the pikin together? Why can't the leave be shared equally?
ReplyDeleteLol
DeleteI cnt help bt laf, surely u dnt mean wt u jst said
U must be a foolcos u don't know wat motherhood entails. U don't have a wife and if u have, u are nt the caring type.these are the people that are making life difficult for we Nigerians.I'm sure if u were d governor, nothing good will happen in your own time. ..m.....Ode oshi.....shiooor....oponu.
DeleteGood news. Lagos is really ready for development. I love Lagos state and hoping to see more developments.
ReplyDeleteWow ! hope other states follow and even d private sector most importantly.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good one if state and private companies will emulate this. It will enable the baby and mother to be strong.
ReplyDeletemake sense legislation. happyyy happyyy happyyyy
ReplyDeletesupported.
ReplyDeleteLASU LASU ... did u hear that? Obafunwa did u hear That? Don't let us start another strike on this one o ...It should also apply to staff members already on Mat Leave o with immediate effect. Our children must be smart o ...
ReplyDeleteYes!!! I said so.
Nice Move.. IT İŞ WELL
ReplyDeleteExcellent news. This is one great thing the state government has done for their staffs
ReplyDeletei love dis,i pray Ogun State emulate bt not for 1st nd 2nd only cos i hv 2 already nd i wnt more
ReplyDeletewaooooo! wish i am part of dis #Doro Classy#
ReplyDeleteAll you shallow minded peeps talking about gender equality and it not being fair for the man, what will a man be doing 4 6 full months without going to work? Even the ten days sef and some of them will start fretting. Men are naturally sole providers. They like waking up each day and doing something important. I applaud this decision, in as much as it'll have its merits and demerits. It was a wise one. Kimmypraise@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteIs it just state government or is the federal government agencies in lagos also included ?
ReplyDeleteGood one.
ReplyDeleteFor all those wishing this would be extended to the private sector let me spin this around. Assuming you owned your own business would you pay 6 months salary to a woman who is away on maternity and is not generating any income for your business?
ReplyDeleteYes I would. Cause a business plan must always include such events from the planning stage
DeleteAwesome. Dis is great.#brassman#
ReplyDeleteLagos here i come! Onyekababyface@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteA very welcome development
ReplyDeleteHow progressive
ReplyDeleteMi i thinking six months is a too much..What is it gone tpo do with that kind of months
ReplyDeleteG.BOBBY
Dear Linda, please can you forward the address of the right Government office one can report to in case of their company do not follow the lagos state law of Nursing mother six month maternity leave.
ReplyDeleteDear Linda, please can you forward the address of the right Government office one can report to in case of their company do not follow the lagos state law of Nursing mother six month maternity leave.
ReplyDeleteThis should also be implement/imposed on the private sector too.
ReplyDeleteomg,this is really good..
ReplyDeleteLol.
ReplyDeletethe potential danger here is that employers will stop employing young or newly married women.....I welcome this because it's what obtains in developed countries.....but this should have come hand in hand with laws against discrimination against women.....age should be banned from being written on cvs, sex, etc...
