Check out the new face of the National Theatre

Did you witness the fireworks around Orile Iganmu in Lagos on Wednesday night? We’re pretty sure you were wondering what all the razzmatazz was about. Well here’s the scoop – on Wednesday 9th of July, Royal Philips the global leader in lighting, unveiled a stunning lighting makeover of the well-renowned Nigerian National Arts Theater in Lagos - one of the most iconic buildings in the city, as part of its fifth consecutive pan-African Cairo to Cape Town roadshow. Continue...

Philips has installed its latest range of RGB (red, green, blue) LED luminaires around the National Theater complex, emphasizing the beauty of the structure and cutting energy consumption by up to 80% as compared to the existing conventional lighting.

Using state-of-the-art digital lighting technology Philips’ concept is focused on highlighting the significance of this iconic building as an architectural masterpiece and as a source of national pride to Nigeria, and in so doing assist with the buildings energy saving performance. The new Philips lighting will transform the theater façade, while illuminating the distinctive, memorable and eye-catching mass and structure. The visual lighting concept will provide the building with an imposing look in the Lagos skyline.

The National Arts Theater is already a popular attraction in the city, with thousands of visitors annually. The spectacular Philips LED lighting is likely to further improve the tourism value of the monument.

The next time you drive around the National Theater at night, be sure to catch a glimpse of the beautiful illumination of this iconic building.

  10. Shameless naija people. So na dis out of date theatre we dey use show off in 2014? Go to Angola and see their theatre. We are just some sorry ass country. Seriously. First of all we have all the oil money any OPEC country have and we still don't have light in naija(2014)? Pakistan them dey fight war and still has light. Make them turn the generator off for he theatre now make we se whether light go dey. Nigeria is one of the countries that withers and wizard seem to be in charge of. The kingdom of darkness don't want us to have steady light bcus where there's light there's no darkness. So they won't allow it and all d christian or fake Christians in d country accept it like that. As long as naija accepts darkness as part of their daily live in nigeria that country is not going any where. Mark it. Until we get our lights permanent like other normal countries just get ready for more and more evil. If god will purnish generator in naija for pollution of clean air and disturbing the peace. That's why when you land in naija from another country the first thing u smell is shit, filthy gutter and smoke. We are so use to being dirty, living dirty and acting clean. Fucked up shit. How do we act clean with table manners untop gutter with flies and mosquitoes chasing you around. And we have d nerves to think we a better than other people. Keep lying to ourselves. And surprises me how guy men and women just full the whole naija with this filthiness around. Shame shame. Well I still thank God I be naija anyways. Just pissed off when I honk about all dis shit. Make we pray for our country not to be satisfying satan's desire for us. Gosh we are so so behind in dis country. May God remove those officials that don't want light for nigeria, those that don't want good road for nigeria , those that don't want steady clean running water for nigeria. Another thing is hospital. We don't have current hospital. I mean hospital good enough for most of us to go take care of medical traumas. Not to fly to stupid countries like India and Saudi Arabia like our politicians do. I've never heard American president or South African president left for some other country to for medical. Who here have heard such shameless thing concerning them? None like I thought. Or sending your children to study abroad. For what? Fix your own country fools and make it comfy. Build d best hospitals and school cus we deserve it. Are we all goats is dis country? Why do we settle for less for God sake? Since we settle for less, mama puts now decided to wash their yash and use the toto water to cook for nigerians, their favorite egusi and okra soup since they like to settle for less. I don't blame them. Since we've accepted nasty open sewage, mosquitoes, no light, no water, we are basically saying we like to eat shot, abi? Action is better than words. Please don't lynch anyone using her vagina bath water to cook for you. Una hear? Since everything else is okay for us. After reading this message, just think hard and deep on those things I mentioned. You never know, you might be in the position one day to change things. God bless

    2. Dear critic, how sad that wit all your lamentations you don't think YOU should be in the positon to "change things". I think it plain hypocrisy to not appreciate d steps of the govt to improve toursim. It is afterall one way of reducing our over dependence on oil. So d question I ask oh u "yash soup eater" what have u done so far?

    3. U actually r saying d truth, its so sad wen we tink of wt we av to ut u wit, bt u sound vry bitter, pls tke it easy

    5. To 2fatg, good question. I have done things my own power can handle in naija but it's so sad, naija envy is tooooooo much. Especially if they know you came from abroad. First thing you hear is " dis is naija, na so it be" , kinda like people don't want new better ways to go things done. I thank God for the lite fixed in d theatre but I just think we can do way way far better. Know what I mean. The government can do better bcus d money is there for it. I hear about kids and others being lynched for stupid things like stealing pepper. If I have the guts to lynch kids and women over stolen egg plant, I should be ready to lynch any body stealing from our government in trillions. But d only way I won't do it is if I'm a coward. I get bold only when I see infants and pregnant women bcus they are helpless.
