Governor Fashola declares tomorrow June 12 public holiday

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, today June 11th approved Thursday, June 12, 2014 as public holiday in Lagos to commemorate the June 12 1993 presidential election that was won by Late Chief Moshood Abiola.

The approval was contained in a circular signed today by the Head of Service Lagos State, Mrs Oluseyi Williams. The circular reads in part;
“In commemoration of June 12, 1993 as significant in the actualization of Democracy in Nigeria, it is hereby notified for general information that His Excellency, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, the Governor of Lagos State, has approved Thursday, 12th June, 2014 as a work free day.”
I'm sure Lagos state workers will be happy to hear this. Work will resume on Friday, June 13th.

  22. @linda! Jst for next time! No state government is empowered in law to declare a public holiday! Dt power is vested in d fderal govt! D state can only dclare a work free day! So oooo Fashola only dclared a wrk free day! Thank you dear.

    1. @bb, the difference is the "Declaration" only d Federal govt can make a dclaration as rgards d phrase "PUBLIC HOLIDAY"! All other states independently can only dclare a work free day! E.g if d fed dclares june 12 a public hols! Thn it bcmes gazeted and its binding allova d federation! But as it is it isn't bindn since its nt bn dclred as such by d fg! All ederal workers will go to work! Only states who dcides Its wrkers shldnt cme, will njy its own autonomy! All banks will work! Cos it aint a Public hols! And same isn't bindn on thm!
