The Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the risks of travel to Nigeria and recommends that U.S. citizens avoid all travel to Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states because of the May 14, 2013 state of emergency proclamation for those three states by the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. As of late April, groups associated with terrorism allegedly planned to mount an unspecified attack against the Sheraton Hotel in Nigeria, near the city of Lagos. There was no further information regarding which of the two Sheraton Hotels in Lagos was the possible target, or if both of the Sheraton Hotels are possible targets. There is no further information regarding the timing or method of attack. U.S. citizens are cautioned to avoid these hotels at this time.
The security situation in the country remains fluid and unpredictable. The U.S. Department of State strongly urges U.S. citizens in Nigeria to keep personal safety and health in the forefront of your planning. We remind U.S. citizens to review your personal security plans; remain aware of your surroundings, including local events; and monitor local news stations for updates. Maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security.
The Department strongly advises U.S. citizens who travel to or reside in Nigeria to enroll in the State Department's Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). U.S. citizens without internet access may enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate to contact you in an emergency.

Jonathan is calling for meetings and after the meetings the same people will forward the details of the meetings to Boko Haram . What is the Nigerian Intelligence department doing ? They rushed to the airport to cause confusion because the Boko informant / supporters among them are trying to divert attention to the airport knowing the plot is set for Sheraton in the same Ikeja . How are the terrorists getting their weapon and funding ? Don’t we have the intelligence network and resources to find the source and stop it ? When was the last time the President came out to address the Nation as most leaders do when tragic incidents occur. Did he not say he knew the sponsors of the group , why has there not been any arrest or mention of names even with all these mayhem .

ReplyDeleteHmm. At least someone is listening and taking action to protect people. Unbelievable that the situation has deteriorated this much. That we have a nation of apathetic citizens among whom terrorists now reside and we cannot fish them out. that we are a nation of persons who serve one god - money and not country. That is what is at play here. We grow monsters for political gain and in the spirit of ethnic hatred and then the monster does its job but turns on the beast that created it. This is world history repeating itself. You cannot demilitarize a soldier who has gone to war. Once a warrior, always a warrior. History across the world has shown that once you take soldiers to war, you have to keep finding things for them to do or they redirect their energies inwards. But NIgerian politicians dont read such things and dont have real experts since expertise is granted on the basis of the extent of your famiial or clandestine relationships with persons in power - not your level of knowledge. Same issue started and destroyed PHC a decade ago with Odili and Amaechi as his deputy. PHC and RIvers remain quasi-military zone with informal paramilitary groups marauding and pillaging while the government LIES its ass off. THe country sat and watched. Then we created schemes to negotiate with the terrorists called MEND. We put them on a payroll. "Ehn, its becuase they have been cheated all their lives". What we fucking forgot to ask is exactly who are the folks in MEND and who are the folks that live right next to the pipeline. they used MEND boys before they organized on a formal front as guerillas against self-appointed enemies like Ogonis. They placed them in the middle of so many inter-tribal wars for political gain. They armed them heavily and and never de-armed them. The militia turned on the expatriates when the war of politics ended and people were in office. You see, they needed the influx of funds the politicians gave them but the paymasters were comfy in their new offices. So what happened next? They created the business of kidnapping. FIrst the expats, then those left. while the expats were victims, the people laughed and said "na only oyinbo". Typical of us, we had all types of joke skids to laugh at the white people's dilemma. We secretly sympathized with the MEND boys. "They have been cheated of their oil wealth you know", we argued, justifying thei rheinous actions. Then the oyinbo left. After they left there was no more business, and both the old and new kidnappers turned on their own people. Women selling oranges became targets. The nation laughed. All PHC citizens with money ran out of dodge and went to Lagos, Abuja and abroad. THey left their mansions desolate and unattended. Flee, that is what they did. Unbeknownst to them, the northerners were learning their trade. THey funded these unemployed boy groups to harass political opponents. It was all about self. The Niger Delta repeated itself over and over again. Unfortunately, this time religion became intertwined in the socio-cultural. The issue created an opportunity for madness that has afflicted the desert to enter our fort. Coupled with border insecurity, apathy, lack of intelligence from our ruling class across all political parties, greed and focus on self, the north deteriorated. Now it is moving into the safe strongholds - Abuja and Lagos. Very soon, having all the wealth you can have in Nigeria will no longer suffice for a good life. We will have to move out to Dubai and places alike. JUst like the Niger Deltans ran away to Ghana, Abuja and Lagos. Where will they run to next. Macbeth doth murder sleep.

Enough of all these silly talks and pray to God. Even if it were your grand father or your father who is presding as the President of Nigeria... am NOT sure he will do better, so stop the silly insults and pray to God to arrest the pepetrators.
Power isn't for only the Northerners, any Nigerian can rule this country and they should get use to that already and STOP the killings here and there less God will avange and bring them ALL to judgement for the killing, panic, destruction melted on citizens in Jesus' Name! AMEN!!!!
