Substandard phones also responsible for poor network services - NCC

According to Director of Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission, Mr Tony Ojobo, the use of substandard phones is a major contributor to the poor network service telecommunications subscribers experience sometimes. He said this yesterday at Abuja while speaking with journalists.
"Substandard phones have contributed to the level of poor services because there is a certain required power in cell phones that would enable it to transmit signals. If the requirement is not met, then it will create problems in the network and that is why when people call a particular number they are unable to reach the number. This is not necessarily because there is no service there; but because their phones are not powered enough to sense signals because they are substandard" he said.
Really? Who believes substandard phones contribute to poor network services in Nigeria. Continue...

He said the NCC was working with the Nigeria Customs Service to curtail the importation of substandard phones into the country.
"We are collaborating with the Nigeria Customs Service, where we have provided a list of approved phones. We, therefore, expect that at the port of entry any phone that did not meet the standard will be seized. We are using this to reinstate that all vendors must be licensed by the Commission first and foremost. You can’t sell anything without having the authorization of the Commission" he said

    2. Oga, understand english. Contribute not cause. Its very true. Most blackberry phones sold in Nigeria where rejected in other countries because they are below standard, you can check to confirm. And all those of you who keep buying UK used and branded phones or cdma phones then complain when you start having issues, OYO. Se know networks in naija have a long way to go, but trust me, I work in customer care 80% of complaints are caused by bad phones or so called uk used phones.

  33. Sir it's obvious you don't know about the job you do. I bet u studied zoology like out so called president. If you know how telecommunication works and networking you won't come to the public and spit out this garbage you just did. For your information phones has nothing to do with poor Internet service or calls. ..If the network is bad the even the best phones won't perform magic. And large percentage of nigerians are phone freak..which makes Nigeria the best market for blackberries and other phones. No one is using those phones in the image displayed. You don't know what u are saying...You clueless like Jona. Take pride and resign.

Linda Make Sure U post...I don't do this often.

  37. Hmmmm our leaders seems 2 b confused abt all issues, haba y on earth ll u say substandard phones re d cos of bad network, haha. A average Nigerian is either on  , Techno, Iphone etc I use  nd still my air time gets deducted, nw I recharge yesterday 2 subscribe nd immediately #1000 changed 2 #995 nd since den dey just kip deductin nd what I av on ma phone is change, I av complained nd given hw 2 go abt it nd it still kip happenin, so Mr Ojobo is dt d wrk of a substandard phone,
A family friend had 2 abandon her aitel lyn cos of same issue nd d response she gets is dt she calls a particular Paris noba every time she recharge, imagine ooo. Mr Ojoba se dt 1 2 na substandard phone wahala.
I guess u re been bribed by oour network providers 2 say all dis trash mtchewwwwwww. Linda pls post my coment ooo, I don't knw y u avt bin doin dt all dis while.

  39. It's true tho...and also, the first commenter is pretty stupid...like he/she didn't read what was said?? because of the low transmitting power of the substandard cells, the BBSs are clogged by those

    ReplyDelete
  40. Plus if you look at the comments, you would notice how those substandard phones are a problem...These ones don't want to change their phones but are rather defending them...
see if all the phones available could handle 3G, there would be no need for 2G Base Stations (IMPROVED NETWORKS)..but not all these phones can even handle 2G...so you understand?

  45. some of this service providers like Mtn are using our heads not a phone matter.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Lindie,as an authority on this issue, substandard phones can contribute to poor network. We once had an issue where a top man on a certain network couldn't attach on the network. We tried his SIM on another phone and it worked. The phone was a 'powerful' phone hence its not about the cost or aesthetics, but if it meets the requirements of the network. However, the operators need to work on the quality of their networks too as this is just a minimal, if not negligible percentage of the causes for poor network

    ReplyDelete
  47. Linda, the truth is that substandard phones also contributes, but that is not really the issue of poor networks in Nigeria. Most Nigerians can spend their fare and rent money to get good mobile phones. Our network vendors should go and improve their networks.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Rubbish...after packing millions of subscribers on their inadequate network..these people take 9jas for fools...even the market woman knows its the Network providers..
concur..def a made in China brain..

  49. NONESENSE!!! I use a blackberry Z10 and still experience poor service. Tell me is Z10 sub standard? Well, I have relegated MTN sinceeeeee. Etisalat is better. Even doubles my credit everytime I recharge and I call all network with it. So NCC man...sharrrraaaapppp!

  53. Network is poor because the regulatory bodies arent doing what they should. His argument is baseless, Incorrect and misleading...in other words...Na LIE!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I don't know if substandard phones can contribute to poor network but one thing I know for sure is that the issue some people experience on their phones, such as their phones showing "sending text message" often is usually as a result of substandard/china phones. I work in a telecommunication company as a customer care agent so I know this. But it so annoys me when customers call and start shouting as if its an issue with the network not knowing its their phones. My advice is if such happens again, do a hard reset and if it doesn't stop, just kindly exercise patience, it will stop by itself. Or better still, change your phone if you can.

  59. My question: so why is china telephone network not in terrible state?

    ReplyDelete
  60. heheheheheehehee!! dis man is a clown. :)) nice excuse for poor netwrk in d country. guess all d fones r substandard in naija. *sighs*

    ReplyDelete
  61. The problem with we Nigerian is that people hardly have to to research on issues before making comments. People make comments on things they have no knowledge of. Mr Ojobo said that low quality phones contribute and not that it is the only factor, which of the commentators have taken time to research on this matter. Not even Linda herself has taken time to empirically verify that assertion. There are too many educated illiterates who claim to be experts on what they know little about. Low quality phones of course impact on the network integrity as repeated calls due to poor phone signals lead to repeated calls which clog the network thereby causing congestion. Low phone quality is indeed a factor. Linda also try to educate your followers. A lot of ignorance was manifested here.
