"Starting Oceanic Bank was my late mum's idea"- Elvina Ibru reveals

Elvina Ibru, one of the daughters of billionaire businessman Olorogun Michael Ibru, has revealed that starting the now defunct Oceanic Bank was her late mum's idea. Mrs Elsie Ibru was the first female bank manager in Nigeria who worked with the defunct African Continental Bank (ACB) and with her experience in the banking sector adviced her husband to start up a bank. She said her father took the advice but unfortunately, her mum passed away when the bank was about to be opened.
"My mother was a banker back in the 60s. She worked for the defunct African Continental Bank (ACB). She was the first female bank manager in Nigeria and then my father is a man of foresight, he foresaw everything and arranged the company. The idea of setting up a bank was by my mother who advised my father to start one. That's how Oceanic Bank came up and unfortunately when the bank was to open she passed on. My mother was brilliant, my father is brilliant. I guess I picked up the interest in entertainment from them. The unity of two brains exploded to become what is today known as the Ibru organization" she said
Late Mrs Elsie Ibru died on February 3rd 1990 while Oceanic Bank was incorporated in March 1990 and began operation in July1990.

    1. Are you sure?? Cos to d best of my knowledge depositors' funds were nt affected in the recent shake-up in the banking industry..I would rather agree with you if, you were talking about your stake in the bank being affected due to the said corruption and declaration of inflated profits of banks.

My dear Linda, I am not sure that I understand the essence of this story. All business ideas and businesses in general have people that conceived or birth the ides. What is the news in this story? Even a pepper seller next door conceived the pepper selling idea before he/she starts the business.

  21. Hmmm...the mention of that Bank actually makes me think 'Ibru' - thanks to Cecelia.

  22. I guess she is trying to tell us that Cecilia Ibru was not part of the initial start up of the Bank.

  23. Rily miss Oceanic Bank. The best place av worked so far. Working in other financial institutions(Bank) has been a nightmare.

  24. You are a big liar to say Oceanic swallowed your money. There wasn't a time such thing happened. I worked with that Bank. What happened was Sanusi witch hunted and forcely took it away from that family. No customer ever lost their money in Oceanic Bank. God Bless the Ibru family for that bank. We prayer that something be done to retrieve bank our household named Bank. Oh Oceanic Bank Experience Peace. The Northerner were scared of that bank and its rapid growth. N. . K

  29. I am concerned that people really think Oceanic's demise was the result of a witch hunt. Get educated, people! If CBN had not intervened, there would have been thousands of people crying all over the place due to lost funds. Blame nobody but Cecilia.

  32. Her mum is not Cecilia......so stop insulting her desk mum. Cecilia wrecked Oceanic bank due to greed and unbanking practice. She destroyed a great family name

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sanusi killed both Oceanic and Intercontinental bank due to jealousy. Six months prior to Sanusi's appointment, there had been a plan by the North to take over the 5 big banks-See Vanguard March 2009. Sanusi was appointed to do the hatchet job.The conception by Elvina's mother could have been true but Cecilia brought the bank back from the doldrums. However, she allowed her successes to get into her and She became too extravagant and brutal.
