Fight against terrorism: Military has received N130b from Jan - April - Okonjo-Iweala

While presenting the 2014 budget signed last week by Pres. Jonathan to newsmen, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Finance Minister revealed that the Nigerian military has received N130.7billion from the Federal Government from January to April 2014 and that another N3.8b has been approved by the president but was still being processed and will soon be released to the military.
She revealed this to deny claims by the Nigerian military and other security agencies that poor funding was undermining ongoing war against terrorism. Defending the huge amount being spent in the military, Dr Okonjo-Iweala said;
"Defence spending is top in everything. You know that military establishments need new things to assist them in their work, and ours will not be different. No budget will be enough to meet their demands but for now, I think the sector takes almost a trillion of the budget.”
"The defence budget in 2014 is about N968.127 billion and we have disbursed N130.7 billion between January and April 2014, N85.9billion out of what has been disbursed is for personnel cost.

""The defence budget in 2014 is about N968.127 billion and we have disbursed N130.7 billion between January and April 2014, N85.9billion out of what has been disbursed is for personnel cost."" many of us don't comprehend when we read! Out of 968.127 budgeted for 2014, only 130.7billion has been released in 5months! Not even close to half the sum for 6months. We need to read between the lines to see that the govt has not released enough funds. Secutity is expensive esp at this tough time of BH and other internal security wahala!

    3. How much is Boko Haram's budget pls? Whatever it may be, I don't think it is 1/7th of what they say it's our "security budget". That is why we are losing cos I don't think with all these monies we cannot still provide our soldiers with basic living conditions. They don't even get the salaries due to them! So where do these men get the motivation to fight?

    2. @bonita It's so obvious you are IGNORANT!! So IGNORANT. Do you know whether the generals are intentionally not giving the soldiers enough bullets so that the insurgency would not cease hence they have more money?? You act so clueless. If northerners affected read your post with UNDERSTANDING, they may slaughter you. Do you know if the generals are enriching themselves from these, and ofourse!! Starving the young soldiers?? Our soldiers are capable of tackling these boko haram boys withon 3 weeks. It is probably these generals, who sit on their pay, and give them MISERABLE GUNS and BULLET. Linda better post am

  10. Wow! I believe I'm beginning to understand the reason behind the mutiny of the soldiers in Maiduguri. I bet if the funds had been used judiciously, all the way down the ladder to the last soldier, discontentment would not be an issue. Sad.

  24. Is it just me or is anyone seeing d twist in dis fight against boko haram?d slothful ways in which d military s handling dis issue has something to do wit d appropriated funds..its not like they cant fight d insurgency bt are jst delaying it so huge amount of money will kip flowing in n they will in turn divert it to their own selfish use..Even d US navy does not recieve such a huge amount of moni within such a short period...under-funding my ass.I think its high time FG orders probing of our top military personels cos i can see a dangerous cabal at d d helm of affairs in our military...God help my beloved country Nigeria...GOD BLESS nigeria

    So pissed right now

  33. God will judge all of u... Thieves!

    Truthfulness pays!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yes, money has been released to the military, no doubt about that. The question is where the money is going to and how its being spent is the crucial thing. We need proof of what the money are being used for and a proper audit of the military accounts. The money is for security and not for building mansions or for the personal use of the top military brass.Period. This boko haram thing will expose everything as the worlds attention is now focus on Nigeria.

  41. Dear Aunty Ngozi we are tired if hearing how many billions were disbursed. To whom were the monies disbursed. Do the accounts the monies were paid into not have signatories? Who signed out the money? What was it used to pay for? We are tired of all this brick back if monies that were budgeted was disbursed and ended up not reaching those for whom it was meant for or not used for its legitimate purpose then some people should be cooling off with SSS. Please follow the money and get to the root of this rubbish. Contrary to what ur principal GEJ said. CORRUPTION IS THE ROOT OF ALL OUR PROBLEMS IN NIGERIA SINCE 1960. God bless Nigeria!

  51. It seems to me that the finance minister is severely detached from reality. If this amount was released and our troops are still short of arms, ammunition, surveillance equipment and basic allowances then there is stealing and diversion going on. Madam should ask the soldiers in Borno if they are getting the materials they need to do the job.

    ReplyDelete
  52. And after the will still blame Goodluck mtcheeeew! .. This is a whole lot of money to achieve something but now all the BH in the military sector will lavish it so that people like Bonario and others will put blame on the president. Sabotao every where I pity mr president.
