Samsung S5 Launches in West Africa

Some brands come into the stores unannounced, but not Samsung Mobile Nigeria. Awesome products have always been welcomed with spellbinding events. With their newest and most recent entry into the premium Galaxy S series –the Galaxy S5 – they pulled out the stops and recorded a lot of firsts. Continue...

The Samsung GALAXY S5 which started retailing in stores all around the country at 11:11 a.m. on Monday, April 11 was officially premiered on Wednesday, April 16 at a Grand Premiere event. The Premiere – the first of its kind – held at the prestigious Intercontinental Hotel, Lagos. The Premiere was a West African event and hosted delegates, hobbyists and technology aficionados from Mali, Mauritius, Senegal, Ghana, Cameroun and Ivory Coast. The Premiere was an official unveiling of the GALAXY S5, wearable – GALAXY Fit and GEAR 2 - and a display of Nigerian culture and hospitality to our West African neighbours.

Samsung Mobile Nigeria which is renowned for orchestrating grand product launches did not let physical attendees and online participants to the event down. The event was opened with an orchestra performance by Ayo Bankole, complete with trumpets and bag pipes. To spice up the evening, there were drama presentations and performances by the creative trio of Kate Henshaw , Seyi Law and Banky W. Multi talented Nigerian songstress, Chioma, serenaded the multicultural audience with performances in French, English and a dance performance of Ghanaian anthem, azonto which got everyone dancing. Seyi Law ensured a steady stream of rib cracking movements especially with his stage props of an umbrella and rain coat. Veteran actor, Victor Olaotan made a surprise appearance to talk about Samsung Mobile’s new range of products. Ghanaian actress, Jocelyn Dumas was also present at the event.

Samsung created an ethereal Experience Zone with a treadmill, life-size representations of the number ‘5’ and an endless lineup of smart devices and wearables. Everyone present at the event had a GALAXY S5 device to preview, there was free on-the-spot photo printing to show how the GALAXY S5 can be paired with a Samsung Wireless Printer using Near Field Connection or WiFi Direct to print glossy shots without physical interaction with the printer. Guests were also able to measure accuracy of the heart rate sensor by jumping on the treadmill and measure change in heart beats per minute (bpm). In the midst of all these was a steady flow of chef d’ouevres, cocktails and wine. There were also souvenirs and opportunities for photo ops with Samsung brand ambassadors and invited celebrities. The GALAXY S5, the latest in Samsung’s flagship and premium range, the S series, is touted to raise the functions of today’s smartphone to the power of five with its water resistance and dust resistance with an IP67 rating, fast camera shutter speed, new fitness tracking features, heart rate scanner, ultra - power saving mode and GALAXY Gifts bumper package. Highlights of this event included the unveiling of the GALAXY Gifts package and Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH) Warranty cover. The GALAXY Gifts offers user discounts and freebies on meals, movies, books and music purchased via the Samsung Mobile ecosystem.
