Gov Peter Obi rewards 1st Class Anambra graduates with N1m each

Yesterday at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Anambra state, Anambra Governor Peter Obi presented a cheque of N160 million which is to be disbursed to 160 first class graduates who are origins of the state. The Governor said it was a gesture by his administration to encourage undergraduate students to strive for academic excellence.
He directed that none of the recepients should be given cash but the money should be paid into their various accounts for better utilization.

    1. Under which budget? His personal pocket??? Watz d criteria? Do dey have names of all Anambra indigenous students??? Will they ask schools to send them names of anambra indegenes that made 1st class?? Or will it be based on results from only schools in Anambra? Results from which year to now? Just what does dis #160m 'charity' mean? Hope its not a looting strategy. Linda either u need to get more details or this you post my comment so that they may see.

    3. You obviously don't understand the idiom anon 11:21 has used. This "gesture" will not in any way alleviate the economic problems facing the state. How much of this money is going to help the state in the long run? We already know the unis they passed out of did not teach them enough to create industries that will later on generate employment for others in the state. No govt with good intentions would do what Obi has done here. Nigerians do not have an ounce of socialism in our make up. Shame.

  28. That was was a good gesture. please improve the academic system because this would only encourage malpractice and corruption in the tertiary institutions because people will do what ever it takes to make first class. Why not sponsor them to further their education? Please stop campaigning for 2015 in a subtle way.

  29. This man must be an igbo baby making factory child.

Are there good roads, adequate medical facilities, flood defenses, good security, good educational institutions, are the civil servants being paid well, is there pension for the retired?

Instead of opening motherless children homes, creating hospitals and slimlining bureaucracy, he's throwing Nigeria's money into the hands of those who are at for life.

Even if it's in his account, did he not embezzle it? Why can't he get the students internships or jobs?

If any of these people accept the money, that will be blood money for the heads of ask the boko haram victims. They will all forever be poor.

This has to be investigated, does he know the people his giving money, are they his relatives.

It's obvious igbos think the rest of Nigeria is full of invalids, there is nothing like free money. You accept that money, you forfeit your lives.

What a whole load of nonsense. Never been so infuriated.

  40. Thank you Gov Obi. It's good to encourage students to study hard. I hope other governors and big companies will follow the lead and not only be sponsoring dancing and singing competition as if those that have brains are no longer useful. Its time bright students are recognized and encouraged in this country.

  41. To be honest, I don't think giving out N1m is the best thing to do. Kudos to the students who made a first class. It is not easy at all. But this might encourage higher kind of malpractice just like 'Liber Eyes only' said and students will do whatever it takes to make a first in a bid to get that share of money, and not necessarily putting in hardwork. What d government should do instead is to provide a better environment for learning, enough lecture rooms with desks, chairs that will contain everyone in that year of study. Introducing group sessions of discussion class(seminars /tutorials) where everybody will have to participate like it is done in d UK.
