  1. WHAT!!! Only in this country....gosh I am so upset. He was accused, NOT GUILT.suspect until proven guilty. What happened to his superiors? I never get how and why the junior officers are the ones always accused and arrested. Now the young man is dead, wasted like bush meat. I am going to follow this guy on twitter this rubbish must stop. Ecobank os in deep trouble.

  2. My heart bleeds and I cry for the loved ones he left behind and Nigeria.Nigeria is a jungle and a lawless country. I am happy to continue to be a Nigerian in diaspora. There needs to be change, our religious leaders should be praying to God for a revival for the country. We have started to accepht all these issues as the norm

  20. Hello Linda,
Babatunde oke was my family friend and we grew up together. Upon hearing the news of his death, i have been in touch with his mum and i called ecobank myself to find out what really happened.
I spoke witha member of ecobank's investigative team and he said we should pls be calm, that they have ordred an autopsy to be done to determine the cause of death.
He said Tunde took a bottle of coke when he was about to be granted bail and he convulsed afterwards, was rushed to the hospital and he died.
The ecobank staff i spoke with said he'll call me back on monday with more info.

    Regards,

  22. Also Linda, the amount in question was N1.2million naira, out of which the ecobank staff(one mr austin; we're supposed to talk again on monday) i spoke with said he had made substantial payments.
His mother told me on the phone today that "kunle, they just killed my son just like that".

  52. I sincerly hope this is not true. Is the Nigerian Police not well trainned in knowing how to make a suspect confess to crime? Even if no confession, can't they do their own investigation and bring the offender to justice? Torture, torture, kill and kill. I just hope this young man has not been cut short in his prime.

  53. Now i think its time to fight injustice in this country.. Even if he stole a billion, what right do they have to torture him, they only thing that could have happen is to question him. i dont think Ecobank would order police to beat him, but the police are so stupid and needs reform, infact, this is sad.

  57. I do not know why these half illiterates that make up the rank and file of the Nigerian Police always resort to torture as a way of obtaining informtion. It is these overzealous touts who parade themselves as policemen that gives the force a bad name.Quote me anywhere, they are the one's that do all these things. The decesed bankers family to sue the Police for murder.Ecobank management should also be sued for culpable homicide.

    ReplyDelete
  58. May his gentle soul RIP. Nigerian police should work on their interrogation and communication skills, they treat every suspect as if the person is a criminal starting from the point of arrest (for the fact somebody reports another person to the police those make that person guilty instantly) but that's what we get in this country.

I sometimes cry for my dear nation. Police force are meant to investigate thoroughly, find evidence and charge the accused to court of law and let justice take action. We are doomed as a nation.

  64. Hi Linda, Babatunde worked with Ladipo branch around Matori area, and lived in Ogba before his death. He worked as the Head teller, and was accused of ATM fraud. He was forced to pay the money back and by Monday, he made a payment of 600,000naira, and was later transferred to the investigation unit of the bank. He was from there moved to the police station. His family members were told to secure his bail before it became a court issue, and they had gone to rally round for money and on returning to the station he was confirmed dead. The police claimed he took a bottle of coke after which he slumpped. The question on our lips now is who gave him coke. Will a police man be as nice as buying coke for a detainee. Babtunde isn't the coke type. He wouldn't take coke for any reason. Tunde was too young too die. The first child of his parents, with both parents still living. He has a 2yr old son and a 7months old daughter. We demand justice, as the case was still being investigated before he was killed.

It's a norm in our 'pan african bank'. Maybe by the time the family sues them big time they will learn their lessons. Everytime they look for staff to punish for their technological and process inefficiency. I hope they get it hot this time. This is not the first time of this inhuman act in Ecobank I work there and I say this with enough evidence 2.4m with the fraud case that is rocking the top management of thebank

Tunde accepted the allegations of #1.2m missing from ATM machine and paid #600,000 while reminds #600,000 for him to balance the Bank but later surface another #1m missing from same ATM machine which he said "I don't know anything about it". He was detailed in police custody for 3days without court consent before his death on Thursday 20th of Feb,2014.
    just too sad.
I think the bank owe his families and general public answers why he was detailed in police custody for too long.

The followers must be ready to challenge this system ,20billion is missing, Minister is spending over $3billion without appropriation, cars were bought for 255millon Naira, but they can to torture to death this man, without given him opportunity to defend himself.
We are in trouble in this country, until we challenge this system that is ready to label and eliminate us without justice.
I wonder how the family will cope with this injustice!
Is this a country for us?

  159. his is d story and details I gathered so far: ( sources:his younger brother and an inlarw to his widow)
Tunde was accused of a missing 1.2million from eco bank, ladipo where he worked sometime late last year. He was asked to refund the money amount.
According to Tunde den someone posted d money with his system. However Tunde made effort to repay d money, his accouny was put on hold and that of his wife who works with the bank was also put on hold. (they could no longer make withdrawals from their acct). Tunde was able to to repay 600k before d events that led to his arrest.
On sunday d 16th of feb, Tunde had a fire accident in his residence, his generator exploded, leaving burns in his hands and legs. Tunde went with d burns to the office on monday to show his branch manager and explain d fact that he wont be able to stay at work for the day.
On tuesday 18th feb Tunde was on his way to clinic and some persons ecobank called his wife to inform her that they were coming to arrest her at her branch since d husband has absconded. She quickly placed a call to her husband to inform him and her husband reported immediately to work abandoning his treatment due to the threat.
Tunde was arrested at work on Tuesday and taken to the divisional headquarters at Ikoyi where he was locked up for 3 days. All efforts to get his bail went futile as the police insisted that based on d instruction of the bank, they must get the outstanding.

His lawyer was asked to bring 1 million and he told dem bail was free and he cant raise such. In the course of arguement the police escalated d debt to 2.4 million and the lawyer reminded them he only had an outstanding of 600k.

Tunde was tortured as usual by the police in the cell and on thursday morning his mother inlaw and brother visited the station, but was again urged by d police to quickly go and get money. They went to use the atm and on their way back, they saw an ambulance and wen they peeped into it, they saw Tunde's cloths drenched in blood, his mouth foaming and it was also discovered later that a coke bottle cover was placed in his pocket. The police started alleging poison that he took a poisonous coke.

Now am wondering, poison from where? This is the story so far. We are waiting for autopsy results but the media must be at alert... the process must b corruption free. Eco bank and the NPF will be doing all they can to bribe as many as possible....anyone who takes bribe on this issue will die a miserable death in Jesus name. I got this from my friend who happened to know tunde

    ReplyDelete
  179. True. Pls lets get this out to the print media. It's no longer news thst Ecobank treats its staff like trash. But they must be made to pay for this act of brutality. Tosin Lawal who was accused of stealing money in 2011 is still in cell. Her case has not been tried thanks to Ecobank. So many othet staff have been made to sleep in cells for weeks over issues they know nothing about and there's no justice for them, even when they are eventually released no apology or compensation in given. I hope the bank gets what's due to them real soon.

Everyone with an account in Ecobank should close it down and this starts with me. Monday morning no delay I will close mine. Even staff if they can should protest but hmmm to find work no easy. The MD, branch head and everyone should be sacked. Jonna sack them
