Photo: Atiku Abubakar spotted at the Emirates Stadium

Nigeria's Former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar today January 18th took a stroll away from politics to join the teeming crowd of #Arsenal supporters at the Emirates Stadium, London to watch the Premiership Game between AresnalFC vs FulhamFC. The Gunners defeated their opponent 2-0.

    Atiku trying too hard to rehabilitate battered image. Credit to his handlers though, soccer and the EPL especially is wired into an average Nigerian psyche, it's called co-branding, when you sell a product or person on the back of another product or person with superior goodwill. Unfortunately this type of political marketing is meant for developed and stable democracies like USA, UK, etc. It won't work in Nigeria, he may fool a few in the social media but that is where it ends. His reputation is pretty much settled; corrupt, opportunistic and politically unreliable, his recent fraternity with APC was a fatal mistake, he's done and cornered. I feel sorry for him but wish him well.

    Desperate politicians will do anything to win votes. Buhari in the heat of the 2011 Presidential election went to the National Stadium, Abuja to watch one of the matches of the Super Eagles. His supporters used that as a campaign point that he is a sports-loving personality who will move Nigerian sports to greater heights. Since he lost the election, we have not seen Buhari get close to any stadium.
