'No sponsor influenced winners of Headies Award'- Ayo Animasahun

Ayo Animashaun, the brain behind the Headies Award has reacted to criticisms that trailed the award in 2013. Critics of the award which held December 26th 2013 believed that the winners were largely dictated by the lead sponsor of the show, making the organizers give awards only to artistes who are ambassadors of the lead sponsor and not necessarily to those who merited it.

Mr Animashaun in a recent interview with Encomium magazine denied all the allegations and also cleared the air on why Wizkid didn't win any award as he was largely rooted for by a lot of people.
"I dont like to add my words to what is not valid or baseless. It is just a waste of time. Some people do not think before they talk. In the first instance, MTN was not the major sponsor. You saw Airtel everywhere. Olamide that won the biggest award of the night is an Etisalat Ambassador. When people's argument is baseless, I don't join issues with them. I just look and laugh. People don't really do their own homework, they just talk. Wizkid's Jaiye Jaiye came out in August and the year in review stopped in July. How is it supposed to qualify? The year in review started March 2012 to June 2013. At that period, Jaiye Jaiye was not out. We were too busy to be distracted by any critics. Some people can talk and we are not the only people that started the journey".

    1. The simple truth is their calculation is wrong. When are they starting the new review? March 2O13 - June 2014 which kind review be this. Why not January - December, since d award ceremony is held in December. Or better still hold the awards in July shikena.

  10. God forgive me but I so detest this Ayo of guy. I would have loved to believe what he said but for Mode 9 to win the lyricist artist of the year award and Sean Tissle beating phyno to the Next rated award, there is more to that crap. #Mr Lucky

  11. An artiste friend of mine complained about the deficiencies in the voting system when it comes to voting for artiste and songs. He said often times the public vote based on popularity not the quality of your song. It is not a perfect system. Hilary Obiorah

  12. How convenient for d year in review to end in July. Mr. Ayo, you are a young Nigerian. We keep saying Nigeria is bad, government is corupt etc. What difference are you making if you can't hold a credible award show? Be the change you want to see in the country. Soon enough, people will lose faith in your award if you are not careful..... # justsaying

    1. Sorry dude, but this comment is quite ignorant! You think they ended the year in review in June becos they wanted to knock off wizkid? That's childish talk dude. Every award has a year in review which is 12months. Their last award in 2012 had a year in review from june 2011 - May 2012, so should they change it from 12 months to accomodate your wizkid? Na wa oh! Linda pls post this!

  29. Award show about 5-6 months(HALF A FFCKIN YEAR) after its review ds guy is dumb, when dtunes deserved the producer of d year 2 yrs back after making several hits wit iyanya nd wizkid, he gave it don jazzy who just split wit dbanj nd who even said he doesnt deserve d award, phyno or burna boy shoulda won d nxt rated coz by ur review date sean tie had only one song on d tv.. And how did mode nine win something.. Dumb award organizers that sell awards to genrate money.. By the way wizkid had tons of songs wit wale, l.a.x, e.m.e, and nice solos like caro, also d audio for jaiye jaiye had been out b4 august.
If u have to lie make it brief.

  45. DID SOUNDCIITY HIRE ALL YOU RETARDS?! THIS IS WHY NIGERIA CAN'T PROGRESS. Y'ALL SIT YOUR LAME ASSES AT HOME AND CRITICISE SOMEONE'S HARDWORK. TELL ME ONE BODY THAT HAS BEEN ABLE TO REWARD THE WORKS OF NIGERIAN ARTISTES LIKE THE HEADIES HAS. I DON'T KNOW THIS DUDE FROM ADAM BUT ANYONE WITH VISION CAN SEE HIS EFFORTS. SO FAR, THEY ARE THE BEST WE'VE GOT. THERE'S ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT BUT IT WON'T HAPPEN OVERNIGHT. TILL THEN SHUT YOUR MOUTHS IF YOU HAVE NOTHING POSITIVE COMING OUT OF IT OR BETTER STILL START YOUR OWN AWARDS CEREMONY AND GIVE THE HEADIES A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY. AWON OLORIBURUKU A BA TENI JE. HA! NIGERIANS CAN REALLY BE FULL OF SHIT SOMETIMES. PSCHEW!

    1. Moron! We have passed the stage where somebody will stage a crappy show and think we will just accept it like that! If the majority don't agree with who Ayo has given awards then obviously it wasn't the public that voted, and if u are too blind to see that the show could have been better with all those sponsores then I guess you are on his payroll!
