Glo/CAF Awards: John Mikel Obi to fly to Lagos in Chelsea jet

The Glo/CAF African Player of the Year Award 2014 will hold tomorrow Thursday January 9th at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos and one of its nominees, Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi, will be specially flown into Lagos for the ceremony in a jet provided by his club, Chelsea.
“I am coming for the CAF awards, I will be flown in and out of Nigeria by the Chelsea jet. I will arrive on the awards day and return immediately after,” Mikel told MTNFootball.com “It is an honour to be selected and nominated for the award. I am looking forward to winning it for my country.” He also said
Mikel is up against Cote d'Ivoire and Man City player Yaya Toure and Cote d'Ivoire and Galatasaray player, Didier Drogba. Yaya Toure won it last year..you think Mikel deserves to win it this year?

      Nationalistic sentiments aside,Yaya Toure stands a better chance of winning the award than Mikel.Even BBC went out of their way to give the to Yaya Toure,a Francophole African player ,an award they always give to players from Anglophole African country.

    Not knowing d deciding criterial.Mikel achieved @ club & national level by winning d UEFA cup nd Nationas cup that Yaya Toure has never won and even played against Yaya Toure in d nations cup where he excelled against Yaya Toure.
    However Yaya Toure scores goals in his club bt they won no trophy.

    I totally agree Mikel should win it this year. He has been somewhat consistent for Chelsea for close to 7 years ... We all know he doesn't score much Goals but with that time play I believe he deserves it.

    YESSSSSSSSSSSS John Obi Mikel deserves this award. If John Obi mikel is playing Chelsea is playing well; if Jon Obi Mikel is playing well Super is playing well. Therefore for, chelsea won FA cup & europe cup and Super eagle won Nation's cup JOHN OBI MIKEL has done pretty well to deserve the award and his contenders to this award were in team in nations cup he passed them and won for naija and in Europe his contenders were there. JOM got a medal too his contenders did not. QED JOM has the award NO OJoro EJOOOOOOOOOOOO

Yaya is such a dogged player and has scored amazing goals for his club side but won no trophy. i really dont know the criteria for the award for i wish Mikel would win it.     He has to win it!! Yaya is a good player no doubt but Mikel had a great 2013!! He won the UEFA Europa trophy and the AFCON, not to talk of his outstanding display in the AFCON tournament.

    Mikel is good and deserves some form of award. Yaya you're is the best right now been more instrumental to his team's structure both mid field and up forth. That said, flying in Chelsea plane to me is modern day slavery, won't be surprised if he doesn't even get to spend time with family.

    Mike didnt come with chelsea jet oooooo. He came with Virgin Atlantic jet and he arrived at about 6.30am. the flight was booked by Globacom. His return ticket is already booked.
