Quite a number of people from different parts of Africa blasted US singer Brandy for posting pics on her instagram page that they felt 'portrayed Africa in a bad light'. Brandy, who was in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire a few days ago to perform, posted the photo above and called it 'Beauty'. She posted another pic of three young boys in tattered clothing and called it 'depth'.
Africans didn't see the 'beauty' or 'depth' in the photos. More responses after the cut...

Why should it be Brandy's responsibility to show a more positive depiction of the continent? I actually didnt see what was so negative about the images to begin with. Instead of attacking her, we should be focusing our energy on lobbying the people, we call "leaders". The US is full of magnificent buildings and sceneries...rarely do these people get to see extreme poverty and the likes. I don't understand why we are complaining really. Africa is poor. Nigeria is poor. Just 10% of the people have all the wealth. Yea she might as well take pictures of Abuja at night in its magnificence but that doesn't show the truth about our country. It's better we accept the truth about our country and fix it so people like Brandy don't even get to "see" poverty to take pictures of.
