It's getting nasty! Brymo calls out Choc City boss Audu Maikori on Twitter

Really feel sorry for Brymo. So anyway, two things I will do here because I'm not on any party's side. 1, is to tell you that his new album, M, D & S is out. It came out today and I hear it's a good album, so go out there and buy it. 2. Show you guys the exclusive leaked photos of a court injunction against Brymo, making the release of his new album today illegal. See them after the cut...

  11. I really feel sorry for Brymo but the truth is he signed a contract and its binding under the law. You can't just opt out of a contract whenever you feel like or because you feel cheated. Nobody forced you to sign it in the first place.

  15. ngwanu! Its on Linda so that means that Choc City has served everyone with sufficient notice of the injunction. Wale warn yourself o! Don't try to ignore that injunction o! Before you get served with a bench warrant and find your self behind bars for contempt of court. You are better off praying and negotiating out of court with Audu. Nigerian court cases can last up to 15 years. Of course by that time your current contract would have lapsed but you would have lost 3 years and a good deal of money to your lawyers in legal fees. Lesson learned my dear but don't worry... this will be fantastic inspiration for your post Choc-City album.

  16. Wow...This is really serious! I feel really bad for Brymo. He definitely needs to get a good lawyer (if he hasn't already) to fight this.

Lessons learned here is to be careful when you appending your John Hancock to any document. It's not just an artists that get in trouble like this, it also happens to the regular consumer. How many times have signed those official papers without reading through the fine prints? I do it a lot.

I am starting to learn to take time to read through those agreements and ask questions before signing anything.

Linda, I duff my hat for you for getting a copy of the official court injunction. Kudos!

  20. Do the right thing folks, the court should settle all this, or maybe a close door agreement.

    ReplyDelete
  21. No sentiments.

Nigerian artistes should really educate themselves on what it means to sign a contract. That shit is binding and can be held against u any day.

When you hear celebs collecting millions from corporate organisations and their record labels, do you assume that the people giving them this plenty money are MAD? Hell no. They have contracts which state what & what they expect from an artiste.
It's not slavery. U have a choice on whether to sign it or not. But u cannot sign it out of hunger and then later when u don get small change & dem don promote u small, u sef go com dey make yanga and trying to change the terms of the contract.
Fuck that. U have to ride it out till the end.

No sentiments, Mr Audu, I luv Jesse Jagz and Brymo better than MI & ice Prince but the law is the law.
    Carry go.
If anybody dey vex, then let them offer to BUY OUT Brymo's contract naa ni.

  23. Brymo is just digging himself into a hole. Why make noise about a contract you signed. It is no ones fault that you didnt take the time to look at all the fine print before signing it.

Instead of ranting, he should make nice so that they will atleast let him buy out his contract or resolve it some other way. This was the same gragra that Jeremiah Gyang did with Chocolate City, where is he today?

No one is saying he should not be dissatisfied. Other artistes have been with their record label and walked away. There are ways to dissolve a contract without airing your dirty laundry in public

    ReplyDelete
  24. This people should just settle this matter as soon as possible! See as they wan snuff out person career!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nigerians are hypocrites. They will talk about the government being corrupt and lawless yet they will open their dirty mouth to support Brymo who is exhibiting illiteracy and lawlessness. After having someone spend money on his wretched ass, he is trying to bring sentiment into it. If you are here and you feel you you should support brymo, Then you can as well not talk about Nigerian Govt. Linda is claiming not to take sides, yet she is marketing a his stolen work. If you like, don't post this

  34. In return we could all boycott any shows, songs, albums, concerts affiliated with the plaintiff/ choc city until they let Brymo go. No attention to M.I or Iceprince till Brymo is freed of his contract.

    ReplyDelete
  35. To me dis is just unfair, 'man's injustice to man'. While Brymo was chunning out hits, making Choc City more popular day by day, we didn't see any court injunction. But when d guy is rife enough for solo-super stardom, then stories emerged. My piece of advise is for him to play along till d Choc deal expires!

    ReplyDelete
  42. He can get a marketer or a rival record label to buy out his contract from Chocolate City. That would mean further enlavement. Or he has to stick to the contract and be there till 2016.

Does Brymo not watch football to see how players' contracts are done? A club signs a player for a guaranteed salary (or a pay as you play salary if the player is too injury prone) for a number of years. If another club wants to sign the player, they have to compensate the player's club by buying out the contract, with the extra money going to the player as sign-on bonus and some going to lawyers and agents. If the player ends up staying to the end of the contract without renewing it at his present club, he becomes a free agent and any club that wants to buy him will pay the player all the money.

  45. BrymO on his part should know that a contract is signed and pay heed to whatever it said. Choc City as a Label should not treat this as a do or die affair. Both parties could settle this out of court if only EGO is put aside.

BECAUSE HE HAS A CONTRACT THAT WILL EXPIRE 2016 DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN'T ADJUST IT ESPECIALLY IF THE RETURN IS HUGE, MORE THAN EXPECTED YOU AMEND THE SHIT MAKE THE ARTIST HAPPY AND KEEP HIM.

Mr brymo this is nt somethin that wil warrant u to engage in name callin and cryin lik a bby , it goes lik this if u r nt hapi wit ur contract with choc city quietly arrange a meeting with d lawyers of choc city and negotiate a decent exit frm ur contractual obligations wit choc city hence u will be free do wat eva u want to do but u can not be under a legally binding contract wit some one and u wil break it and expect that other party to keep quiet ,it doesn't work that way .pls I recommend u get urself a gud lawyer to further advice u on wat next to do if nt these antics of urs wil nt take u anywhere 4 ur own gud brymo get a lawyer to help u out of this debacle

    ReplyDelete
  70. This is quite unfortunate for dude. Reminds me of the TLC story. People, to become a star isn't a day's job...I think. Check the papers you sign when making a deal!!! They gave him a long azz contract, but because he was a novice and desperate to "blow", he got with them.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Why do artists sign contracts without involving lawyers? This is so sad.... Brymo is a really good artist whose talent should be showcased. Well, if he did sign it, he should bid this time till 2016. He is still a young man.

Before he knows it, 2016 will be here. He has his whole life ahead of him and IMO his style of music is timeless. If he keeps on churning out the sort of music he's been doing, he'll be around for a long time. I'll buy his CD any day. He is good!

  78. Linda I'm a lawyer and one thing I'm sure of is dis- civil suit carries suit number while criminal cases carries charge number. This injunction in my opinion appears fake. Criminal case are brought by comm of police or Attorney general. Byrmo should verify the authenticity of this injunction.

    ReplyDelete
  79. i think brymo should still b in choc city...deres absolutely no point leavin

    ReplyDelete
  80. These artistes should be much more careful about what they get themselves into. If truly Brymo has a contract that ties him to choc city till 2016 then there is really nothing much he can do but honour it or beg out of it.
Most labels want to milk artistes dry before letting them go,only a few get out of their tight clutches without story.

But it is purely exploitative and EVIL for a person to make a struggling dude sign a contract that long. WTF!!! 2008-2016!!! Who does that??? The guy don try na... 08 to 13 is 5 years already. 94. No one really has the complete picture of what transpired between BRYMO and his record label CHOCOLATE CITY as regards the contract they signed! So it might be difficult to evaluate who breached the same contract or who didn’t. But from all the brouhaha going on social media concerning this case, it’s obvious someone didn’t do his contractual homework well. Even if BRYMO felt CHOCOLATE CITY was not fulfilling their part of the bargain, he could have hired the services of an independent lawyer to fight his case in court and get a court backing to pull out of the contract. He instead just walked out on the contract hoping he would be let off like that. You don’t knowingly sign a contract binding till 2016 and think you could successfully walk out on that without eyebrows being raised. BRYMO is schooled and I am shocked and disappointed that he decided to take this route. No matter how genuine his reasons for stepping out of the contract are, he should have solicited and gotten a legal backing for it. His failure to do so, is responsible for the problems he is today facing with the label. Sentiments must be thrown out the window in this case. It’s either BRYMO tries and convince his new record label or management company to buy him out of the old contract with CHOC CITY or he stays back to fulfill the terms therein for it’s duration. As someone said on one of the entertainment blogs, BRYMO should have learnt from the KELLY HANSOME/KENNIS MUSIC episode. I just hope other Nigerian artistes can learn from what’s going on now! Nuff said!

  96. TWO OPTIONS FOR BRYMO:

    1. SETTLE THE DISPUTE WITH CHOCOLATE CITY CAUSE THEY ARE THE ONES WIELDING THE BIG STICK IT STRICTLY BUSINESS AND NOTHING PERSONAL.

    OR

START YOUR CAREER AFRESH WITH A BRAND NEW NAME (ONLY ONE OFFICIAL ALBUM NOTHIN MUCH TO LOSE) BUT THE DOWNSIDE TO THIS IS THAT YOU JUST WONT BE ABLE TO PERFORM ANY OF YOUR HIT SONGS (ALREADY RELEASED MATERIAL) AT ANY SHOW. ALSO ROYALTY DUE FROM SUCH WONT BE GETTING TO YOU. CAUSE ITS CC PROPERTY. HAAARD WAY BUT THE ONLY WAY.

MY ADVISE; SETTLE YOUR DISPUTE WITH CC AND RENEGOTIATE YOUR TERMS. THINGS LIKE THIS CAN MESS UP CAREERS. ASK PRINCE, JOE,THE LOX, EVEN SNOOP DOGG WAS LUCKY AT DEATH-ROW RECORDS. OR ELSE THEY WILL SUE YOU AND LAY CLAIM TO PROCEEDS FROM YOUR NEW MATERIAL (M, D&S). ITS A WIN-WIN FOR THEM. EAT THE HUMBLE-PIE AND SQUASH THE BEEF!.

LESSON: WHEN SIGNING ANY CONTRACT GET YOUR OWN LAWYER ALSO TO HELP YOU STUDY THE TERMS AND ADVISE YOU DULY. DONT EVER BE IN A RUSH TO PUT PEN TO PAPER UNTIL YOU ARE 100% SATISFIED WITH THE TERMS. AND ALWAYS KEEP YOUR CONTRACT OPEN WITH AN 'ESCAPE' CLAUSE.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Only in naija people can just dump a contract forgetting that it is an act of a criminal to not honor a contract. Brymo can never try that in a developed country. I am 100% sure that most young Nigerians will want to support Brymo because they will also do the same thing he did (use a label to gain buzz and dump the label out of greed)and you wonder why Nigeria will never change for the better when everyone is too smart for their own good. He must either honor his contract or buy out his contract no short cut in life.. Rubbish

  103. As much as I love Brymo,a contract is a contract. When signing a contract, you have to be smart enough to really be sure if you're going to benefit from the contract. Once you sign it, it becomes a deal & both parties are bound by the terms & conditions of that contract. You can't pull out in the middle of it or you would have to pay your ass out. Brymo in this case has to live up to his side of the contract whether he likes it or not now. I wish him the best anyways.

  119. Brymo should stop being stupid and get a lawyer fast. I don't know why these celebs think twitter is the best avenue to fight one another. Does he realise he can be sued for defamation of character with such outlandish outbursts? If he signed a contract for a certain period, then he is bound by the terms of that contract.whatever caused the rift with choc city should have been handled more professionally. If he feels the label did not keep to their word, that is if he went through the contract at all, he should have had a lawyer draft a breach and not think he can just walk away. 2face suffered for years until he was ready to leave kennis music, lookmat him today. no one can stop your destiny but devils can delay it. Enlightenment is a major problem in thus country.

  120. Me o, I will definitely buy that CD. I will even buy more than one if I am sure it puts money in Brymo's pocket.

  129. Nigerians...always get a lawyer to look over a contract before signing it...if u think u would rather not spend money doing this, trust me...u will spend 10 times the cost trying to undo that contract...

    ReplyDelete
  130. Don't understand why people are taking sides here, Brymo should have looked for an amicable settlement not to try force his way out of this contract, Choc city spend money to make Brymo a brand that he is today, pre his contract with Choc city how many of you know him ? do no let people stop doing good because of this attitude, they took a risk and invested in him and when the time came for him to pay back he wants to jump from it, its not a good thing at all.

  134. Brymo is time for u to act like a business person take advantage of dis present controvesy,go back to chocolate and u will be more appreciated for who u are. You have a valid contract with them and the only way to opt out in the first place is through law. You erred on ur part. I love ur songs and don't let no bad advicer or pride stops from coming to terms with them

  139. Shey dis punk has a contract???...let him honor it or agree 2a settlement nd let us be

  140. Why do these urchins turn supers NEVER learn? These stories happen all the time. Yet, young Nigerian artistes still wonder why people dont want to invest in their career.

Brymo was a gutter boy who was blessed to find some people to save him from his sorry life as a carpenter and now he is talking thrash about being a start not being treated right. He didnt complain when they were spending money on him and feeding him and promoting his music. What a shame

However my only consolatory words for Chocolate City is that they should be patient and wait to see the idiot Brymo burn himself out. Historically, most of those who make this kind of dumb move NEVER last as artistes. I say give him 2 years and he will be back to his sorry life as a loser and start begging.

  141. when he signed the contract he closed his eyes abi...now he his looking for sympathy.
this is why you should have a lawyer check out your contract. instead of wasting time looking for sympathy, he should find a way to settle the issue with them.
a contract is and will always be a contract

  142. Choc City is exposing themselves, i wonder who will sign with them in the future if this is what you do to ur artists!!!

then again, it's business so ..

    ReplyDelete
  143. God know i have had my last support for anything chocoLATE city, not even ant of there artist, causalisation of ur artist. perfect enslavement.either review his contract or let him make money from his album to pay your f..king ass off his slave contract.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Ordinary car lease, you can't breach contract like that without losing out let alone a music career, pls, let go the sentiments and serve your term. You probably had your shot at fame through choc city and the money was so good you didn't even look into the future. Dude, choc city doesn't run a shelter for the helpless on temp terms, it's business so stop manipulating everyone into hating the Audu guy. Btw, I'm not related to them, I'm just disgusted because of ignorance exhibited by most.

    ReplyDelete
  145. This is so complicated, this dude is bind to this slave contract...i think they should settle out of court... brymo should make peace with his Redefined Slave Master (Audu or whatever) and besides nobody want it with chocolate city anymore!
