Adams Oshiomhole signs death penalty for kidnappers bill into Edo state law

Edo State governor Adams Oshiomhole today October 18th signed into the Edo State law, a bill that prescribes the death penalty for kidnappers. The death penalty is not just for kidnappers who kill their victims, its for all acts of kidnapping whether it involves murder or not. The new bill also states that houses used by kidnappers will be demolished.

Is this a welcome development or...? Please share your thoughts...

  4. Oshiomole should thread carefully before he signs innocent people to be slaughtered for nothing.

With all the almost accurate investigative methods in developed world, their government still find it difficult to sign death warrants for the fear of wrongful conviction.

Now, imagine a country like Nigeria where its words against words. Innocent people go die tire.

I'm all for death penalty with video evidence...or at least; very increaminating evidence. Not hearsay as it is in most cases.

  8. no it is not. Death penalty should be advocated against. Life sentence shuld be emitted to kidnappers n d likes rada dan death penalty. Other countries are driving towards abolishing 'Death penalty', nigeria should be moving with what is obtainable rather than regressing.

  12. Oga Adams take am easy now. Death sentence? Yes, if it involves murder, long sentences if it doesn't. But the issue of the house, that 1 i no gree. if a man rents a bungalow on a plot of land after telling the landlord that he is a businessman who deals in fabrics and it was confirmed. if that tenat now turns out to be a kidnaper, using the apartment as his den. will bros Adams demolish the house knwing fully well that the house is the only means of survival for the 80yrs old landlord?

    So YES,YES,YES...death to Kidnappers!

  17. I don't think lives should be taken, most of them do this out of ignorance. They should be made to go to jail to serve the appropriate punishments

  64. Very good remedy. Penology prescribes equal or higher measure of sanction to crime in order to achieve significant deterrence. It might not end it bt wl go a long way to reduce it drastically. Zion.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Ofcourse it is very welcome..kidnappers kill their victims even after collecting ransom from friends/family,they don't deserve any form of mercy

    ReplyDelete
  70. This is not the best solution to stop or eradicate kidnappings in Edo state as it were; but I think the Governor should provide employment opportunities for the youths of his state.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Makes absolute sense. I think its high time we met drastic situations with drastic action. We're long over due for some cleansing in this countries and other states can take a cue from this. Well done Oshiomole!

    ReplyDelete
  72. a good one. so sure d rate of kidnapping will drastically reduce der. i believe dis is a positive way forwrd.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I'm all for it. Perhaps this would shake them up a bit before they think about such act.

    ReplyDelete

  91. Thank God for governor Oshiemole. Atleast wt house demolition let me know who ll have the guts to harbour their victims. They even to trace the paternal village house of those kidnappers.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Correct!
tHE KIDNAPPERS are not nice people, so am glad there is a law to condemn the act.
I think other governors who have this problem in their state need to adopt this law...cos its sickening not being able to enjoy ur life or wealth u worked hard to achieve.....

    ReplyDelete
  93. This is so much welcome, i tell u if other governors should adopt this law, all these crime will be a thing of history. Pls they should also extend this law to boko haram and armed robbers and you will see nigeria will come back to her past glory.

    ReplyDelete
  102. It's a draconian move that's bound to hurt innocent people caught in this situation.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Good one but what of those stealing Government money in broad day light?
I think these ones too deserve death penalty not only in Edo state but every where in Nigeria.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Yes, is a welcome idea, he would kill by sword, must surely die by sword. Other gorvernors shuold follow suit

    ReplyDelete
  105. Correct....but men which kind pic of the governor be this? That face and look fit give small pikin convulsion o

    ReplyDelete
  106. Good idea. The stupid kidnappers will think now b4 they commit the act. Btw, I think this kind of law should b signed on the issue of corruption too and Nigeria will b a better place to live.

    ReplyDelete
  107. There should be one exception: Those who successfully kidnap politicians should be rewarded with amnesty / immunity. However, if they kill the politician, then they should be punished by forcing them to take his former political position. That should teach 'em! #openseason

    ReplyDelete
  108. To be honest...Adams Oshiomhole is just too deceitful,he haven't done anything yet to pay back for second chance given to Him in office.

    ReplyDelete
  114. The same law was enacted in Anambra due to d high rate of kidnapping in d state and since then kidnapping was drastically reduced. So,I believe it's a welcome development.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Good response from an active Governor. Others only respond when their relatives are victims. They should be executed 21days after the exhaustion of the appeal process. Don't remand them indefinitely in prison for another administration to grant them amnesty. Good job.

  122. i concur completly with the bill and any act that will in essence bring down the menance of arm robbery and kindnapping in our societ

    ReplyDelete
  123. I absolutely agree with the law and infact the entire country should make death penalty for all forms of kidnapping ,i am sure it will reduce the rate of such crimes in Nigeria.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Dis nah pure ooo. Wat if dey come kidnap d victim carry am comot Edo state?

    ReplyDelete
  125. This should be welcome development. Kidnapping is getting out hand in the countries. We don't need their evil soul even for investigative activities. discover the new ways Nigeria govt are making youth to become self employed

    ReplyDelete
  126. Yes is a welcome idea, he would killed by sword must surely die by sword, let other governors emulate him, enough of this nonsense.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Is a welcome development.furthermore,i hope federal government should emulate this positive and impose capital punishment for corruption and other related offences

    ReplyDelete
  128. Politrikcians abuse of power, 25 years to life wud b better. Politicians looting causes more harm than kidnapping. They can give them 25 to 100 yrs imprisonment, death penalty is too harsh when they gave Aluu 4 suspects bail and rapists also get bail. What's wrong with Nigerians way of thinking?

    ReplyDelete
  129. NYC-1 says: Foolish Idea! This form of deterrent will only harden these guys and make them ruthless to their 'catch.' It boils down to an eye for an eye affair; and sadly, the unprotected ones end up paying the highest price. What I expected this dumb guy to do is to create a sustainable program that will enhance employment opportunities for his people, not initiating brute force to address social problems Suppose his mother or relative is caught, will he be saying this?

    ReplyDelete
  130. Looting n stealin is worse.kidnappers aren't d worse criminals on earth.atlest dey unleash their terror mostly on d stinkin rich whch is beta dan BH,politicians, etc.life imprisonmnt is berra

    ReplyDelete
  131. He is foolish. What of people who steal billions of naira from nigeria's pocket, they get an award. Nigerians are so stupid to see that this politicians are diverting attention from themselves and main issues like fraud etc

    ReplyDelete
  132. It is a welcome development, but I know some strong headed goats will always blame d devil when they're caught. Rek 1

    ReplyDelete
  133. I feel the death penalty is a bit harsh, 20yrs imprisonment is more adequate. The death penalty or life is worthy when life is taking. This people don't have jobs and no school due to ASUU. Govt should create an enabling environment for them and there will be less kidnapping

    ReplyDelete
  134. So easy to pass d law.what of d leaders dat steal in billions..

    ReplyDelete
  135. Sure, dis is a welcome development..so it can stop d rate at which kidnappers go about killing people..

    ReplyDelete
  136. That's a true governor with balls....I commend you SIR, keep up the good work

    ReplyDelete
  137. Governor's decision spot on, a step in the right direction. Hope it can be enforced. Hope the Federal Government can follow suit.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I concur to dat absolutely, may b dat may serve as a deterrent for them in operating in edo and its environs

    ReplyDelete
  139. Watever ... Mahn ... I just think no one deservez 2 die ... no matter wat... : )

    ReplyDelete
  140. Its a welcoming news, kudos our dear governor!

    ReplyDelete
  141. They should it please , kill all murderers and kidnappers but torture thieves before releasing them. This crazy fools need a scapegoat or a couple of them maybe the crime rate will reduce.

    ReplyDelete
  142. IF they have all the evidence to back up the actions of the culprit then they shld be jailed for life not killed... oshomole na u won change naija.. see em eye.. start with bombers abeg.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Well done my govnr. It is a good development. I hope other govnrs in NigerDelta will follow.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Death Penalty is too much...but I guess it's meant to act as a deterrence...i don't agree with the death penalty for any crime tho...it's too much...

    ReplyDelete
  145. Is a welcome development.furthermore,i hope federal government should emulate this positive step and impose capital punishment for corruption and other related offences

    ReplyDelete
  146. They shud make sure dy re d real guilty kidnappers not d one dt naija police will nw raid pple on d streets n when dey can't bail themselves, will label dem kidnappers...anytin can happen in naija.

    ReplyDelete
  147. well, its good thing but how about those politicians that abuse power by stealing, marrying underage and so on? They need to be incorporate in same punishment.

    ReplyDelete
  148. all these *POLITHIEFIANS* shebi as una dey back Up d kidnappers so we dont have to find out una won kill dem at d spot shebi. God help this our hypocrite *POLITHIEFIANS* una cup go full one day.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Goooood! This kidnapping ish in Edo staet has gone way out of hand. Sons kidnapping their fathers, business partners. Most of them are lazy ass cowards, they know nothing but how to make fast money, kidnap or travel abroad.

    ReplyDelete
  150. I think if the penalty is castration. There would not be any talk of kidnapping ever again. It will just die a quick death.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Death penalty in a corrupt country, with questionable human rights and fucked up judicial system. It's like giving a load gun to a kid. People need to run for cover

    ReplyDelete
  152. Its too harsh of a sentence. The real issue in Nigeria is the corruption. People are hungry, no jobs, the politicians and there cohorts are raping the futures of Nigerians and little is been done to bring them to account.
It isn't right for pple to kidnap others but most of the kidnappers are seeking financial rewards that tells us they have been pushed to the limit.
I know Oshiomole personally he is a theif just on the other side.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Very nice! next time they would think twice about their own lives before going ahead with their evil deeds. But the demolishment of buildings in which they're found in is a little bit unfair cuz the owners might not be aware..so i guess they should rethink that one

    ReplyDelete
  154. This is a Welcome idea. I recommend its full implementation. Armed Robbers have long changed business to Kidnapping. Desperate Politicians also fund kidnappers. All the other states are advised to follow suit.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Indifferent as long as they r punished for their evil ... The governor is the boss on dis matter and he should be respected for his position and office....

  157. Dillicious Dillish in action!!!

    ReplyDelete
  158. Yes, it's a welcome development. Kidnappers should know that if they carry out their activities anywhere in Edo State and they are caught, they will pay the ultimate price. ALL genuine Edolites support this bill. Only kidnappers and their relatives and beneficiaries will not support it.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Very welcome, but...
Could such legal noose tightening be solution to the problem of kidnapping and the menace of kidnappers?
At the root of such heinous crimes as kidnapping, armed robbery, terrorism, etc is unemployment...
Just returned from a trip to Edo State...
Many Edo indigenes are not even happy with the so-called comrade governor...
They're miffed that he banned commercial motorcycle operation (Okada) in the state...
It is believed that most young people had taken to Okada for survival owing to unemployment...
But with the ban of Okada by Oshiomole, most have been thrown back into unemployment and misery...
There is palpable desperation everywhere in Edo State as we speak!
The Criminal Code had already made penal provision for kidnapping..
So, this move is only a tightening of the penal noose...
I am afraid it might only make kidnappers more dare-devil, knowing what they stand to face if caught...
The new law aint gonna solve any problem....
Solution: job creation; enhanced capacity for crime fighting by the police, etc....

    ReplyDelete
  160. Death penalty also for corrupt leaders if not it's unjustifiable .

    ReplyDelete
  161. Quite dicey and I don't think this would solve the problem.......this bill would only make abductors more ruthless with their victims leaving room for little or no negotiation once their demands are not met

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  168. why didnt OShiomole just say the obvious-he is looking for a free land to build his retirement mansion with government looted money when he retires. Why demolish the houses? Is capital punishment the answer to having a safer society?what happens to creating jobs for the youth who engage in such demeaning actions due to lack of jobs? Oshiomole, tackle the root of the problem abeg, give graduate/youth jobs and see if person go think of kidnapping.BUT if u decide to continue with the bill sha, pass one first that says 'all corrupt politicians with their family shall be executive and their wealth, houses distributed to the needy'

    ReplyDelete
  169. What of our corrupt leaders Death penalty should also go for them to balance equation lol! Anyway, tnx baba ohsomole.
