Nigerians in Benin Republic raided and dumped in a camp (Photos)

According to a report by a Nigerian lawyer living in Benin Republic who sent out the story to the media, in the early hours of yesterday morning, Wednesday July 31st, the police department of the Republic of Benin carried out a house to house search of Nigerians living in Cotonou, who don't have their passports and ID cards. The Nigerians they found wanting were bundled up and quarantined in a local primary school (pictured above).

A few other nationalities like Ghanaians and Nigers were also picked up but majority were Nigerians. The Benin police say they plan to continue their raid because some foreigners were constituting a nuisance in the area.

The lawyer had to bail her relatives from the camp with 20,000cfa which is about N6000 even though they didn't commit any crime other than being unable to identify themselves. Maybe it's time to come home!

    2. I guess this is in retaliation to the robbery attack carried out by our nna bros dem @ the idi iroko border in the early hours of the same day. Igbos have crowded the place carrying out all sorts of crimes. It's shameful. I was at cotonu to buy some wares and I heard about this incident. Even in small Benin, Nigerians are being chased. When will this revolution start sef? The land has to be purged.

Thank u o, tell them o,idiots that want freedom but don't want to pay the price of freedom.God paid the price for humanity by allowing his son to die, pharoah and Egypt paid the price enslaving pple with God and Moses fighting it, South Africans (blacks) fought and sang for the freedom, Martin Luther King and all black Americans fought for the freedom they have today, the middleeast nko, the french revolution, but Nigerians want to buy gucci dress for free.mumus, Mrs Alakija has so so and so money from oil business but they won't ask hw is she got the oil block, is her father the owner of the place where the oil came from? Nigerians will rather praise and admire her and every other looter who steals the country's wealth, they will celebrate their children weddings with pagentry on Bisi Olatilo show,u will watch and admire.Nigerians deserve the suffering they face.

What do we have against doing things the proper way in this country actually? Besides if word got out that some other nationality was kidnapping or something in an area in Nigeria, you and I will agree that this is what should be done to them.

  27. It's very sad to see Nigerians being treated this way. I schooled in Benin and i know the kind of humiliation we Nigerians face from their police on daily basis even with a valid ID card. Several cases of unfair victimization has been reported to the Nigerian embassy and it all falls on deaf ears. I think the Nigerian govt needs to do something about this because sincerely speaking these Beninese really hate us Nigerians.

  31. A lot is happening to Nigerians this days. But we need to get the full facts before analysing the situation. All I can say for now is that every country has a right to protect her own citizens and ensure her National security and we can't blame them. If the Nigerian government lives up to her responsibilities and improves the life of Nigerians, there wouldn't be need to go to a country like Benin Republic to try and eke out a living. May God help us.

We focus on governors and president more. If we hv good people with nigeria at heart, nt to rape her the way they do, u'd see development, and jobs will be created. Every nigerian will be an employer of labour. This is what's obtained in china.

    ReplyDelete
  98. When are Nigerians going to get their act together? When is our government going to put Nigeria and Nigerians first? Our government likes playing Africa's big benefactor when it is clear as daylight that Nigerians are hated with a passion across Africa. In Lagos alone we have thousands of people from Benin who have no legal identification that go about their business without any trouble from Nigerian law enforcement. Then you have the others from all across West Africa that are here without legitimate papers. Our government (and people) do not bother them, yet in their countries Nigerians (even those with legal papers) consistently get the short end of the stick. I believe it is high time that the Nigerian government starts giving as good as we get. Send all the illegals back to their countries and let the illegal (and legal) Nigerians in those countries come back home. If only we can get our act together, Nigerians really have no business emigrating to other countries to be treated like crap.

  99. Actually I visit Benin Rep regulrly for work and a couple of my colleagues have been road checked at night, obviously at the point of checking, they don't have their passport on them. The police men actually arrest them and detain them until they call one of us or someone from the office to get their passport from their hotel. It is bullshit in my opinion. Some of these people may actully have legal travel documents but were not given the chance to pick them up.
I mean, what if they had no one to speak to to bring their passport to the station.

    ReplyDelete

But for Nigeria, they would have faded off the map, since the time of Abacha,we have constantly offered them aid, and nowadays they behave like they can survive if the border is closed for just a week.
Well it's time for Nigerians to start developing Strong Nationalist spirit towards their country.
Imagine embarrassment in the name of worthless cfa"........long hiss!
