Rivers crisis: Pres. Jonathan withdraws JTF soldiers, armored cars from Gov's lodge?

That is what Sahara Reporters is reporting. According to SR, about 30 soldiers guarding the Governor's lodge have been summarily withdrawn by the Brigade Commander in charge of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Port Harcourt at the orders of President Goodluck Jonathan.

SaharaReporters also reports that the soldiers took with them two Armored Personnel Cars (APC) usually stationed at Government House.

A military source allegedly told SR that the removal of the soldiers was ordered from Abuja. He warned that things might get bloodier in the state capital with the JTF gone from Government House leaving the security of the governor and his aides in the hands of a few police officers and State Security Services agents.

  11. Lets be frank, is Gov Amaechi entitled to soldiers in the first place? No Governor moves about with soldiers so the withdrawal is in order. Governors are only entitled to Police security and SSS. Enough of all these sentimental reporting. Although, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State should be replaced and replaced with a neutral one.

I expect the president to play the part of a leader and father here, for the good of our democracy, there is need for a healthy opposition and an effort to quash or subdue this opposition by every means breeds internal opposition, the type we're experiencing in Rivers today

We Nigerians supposed to have grown enough to know that not those pan made by this oyinbo make us secure.I think rulling well and caring for the populace should be the highest security Nigerian politicians and leaders should seek.

How can only 5 house of assembly members resort to impeaching the speaker for their own selfish interest? Later they'll say the president is not a part of this? Sordid Baldadash! Ever since the president's ambition clashed with that of the Rivers State Governor's, he's been searching for means to take powers from the hands of Amaechi... If they had succeeded in impeaching the speaker, the target was the Governor and this they would do via claims of misappropriation of funds, lay a motion based on that to impeach d governor, afterwards, based on the call made by the temporarily enthroned speaker; "I'm calling on the EFCC to come and investigate the accounts" They'll have the EFCC***the presidents watch dogs***to put Amaechi behind bars, hence the president won't have a strong competition to deal with in 2015... If they don't succeed via dis speedy means, they'll try other means, while the Omehia Court case lingers***a long term plan to remove Amaechi from power***. But there's one thing he forgets, if the northerners and OBJ is for a course, all odds are against you, even if u win Amaechi***which I know is impossible***you'll still have Buhari and his likes to contend with... After all, about 40% of your votes came from Rivers State, powers in the north raised dis controversy and have succeeded in conflicting the possibility of you getting such 40% votes come 2015... Now who is more of a dictator here? A President who would resort to forceful dethronement of his fellow executive***who fought for his enthronement via votes***for eccentric reasons or a Governor turned Authoritarian owing to self-defence? Wateva dey do sha, they should leave smth behind for whoever is going to be the next leader to rule with... Cause me I knw sey Amaechi is just a diversion for Jonathan... 95. This shouldn't be too surprising; it happened during obasanjo's tenure when he withdrew security aides of lagos state governor, when the latter had quarrel with him on local government issue. Although, the governor doesn't need soldiers as aides, but the people need them for the security of their lives and properties.
The president is not acting as the commander in chief and chief security officer of the nation. His psychophants should be able to advise him that he's acting in error. If he has any quarrel with any governor, he should consider the people of the state.
Our leaders should learn fron neighbouring countries....the power of the people to effect changes. A word is enough for the wise! If there is no peace in the country by 2015, which country or which people do they want to rule? "DEMONSTRATION OF CRAZINESS" God bless Nigeria.

  97. Amechi is vindictive. Very vindictive. In his 8years as gov,the Rumuokrushi to Eneka rd has bn bad, very bad. Reason? The ppl didn't vote him so let the loser they voted for do their road. He is just here in PH bn controlled by Hilda D.

  99. Its so sad we hav a president who leaves d real issues in d country 2 fight 1 man, same thing he did during d occupy naija, istead of addressing d issues, he chose 2 use military men 2 stop protesters, so many more impt things 2 deal with in d country, hez puTting all his energy on 1 man. D wisest thing I heard on tinsel, soldiers win wars bt generals get d credit, all these things hez doin doesn't make him a good leader. I just wish we cud av a better nigeria

  101. Linda, i sincerely want to say that nigerians should look at issues objectively before raining down their criticisms. GEJ MAY OR MAYNOT HAVE ANYTHING TODO WITH THE WITDRAWAL OF THE SOLDIERS. BUT,Amaechi is not a saint,he's a vindictive and authoritarian governor. He should learn how not to be high-handed. God save Rivers state
