Chidi Lloyd slapped, cuffed,blindfolded & taken to unknown location, lawyer claims

Emenike Ebete, counsel to Rivers State Lawmaker, Chidi Lloyd, says he fears for his client’s life based on claims that the police have hidden him in an unknown location.

Ebete told Nigerian Telegraph that he wants the public to be watchful so that what happened in the case of the late Moshood Kashimawo Abiola did not repeat itself.
“In Abuja, they told us they were transporting him to Port Harcourt to charge him for conspiracy and didn’t say more than that. When we got to Port Harcourt, there were more than five hundred policemen waiting to escort him to the command office. From there, he was moved to the Police officers’ mess and handcuffed like a common criminal. Now I do not know where he is,” Ebete said.


Eyewitnesses claim that Lloyd was blindfolded and handcuffed as he arrived at the Rivers State Police Command on Friday.

Meanwhile, the application by Lloyd’s legal representative, Belu-Olisa Mofor, praying the court to grant his client bail has been stalled with the Judge, Justice Esor Teetito adjourning further hearing on the application till August 6, 2013.

Lloyd has been detained by the Force Headquarters of the Nigeria Police since he reported in on Tuesday, and was brought to Port Harcourt, where he is expected to be taken to court.
The leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly was part of a fracas in the Rivers State House of Assembly on July 9. He was seen in a video, chasing a fellow law maker, Michael Chinda and assaulting him with the mace of the house.

Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Angela Agabe declined to comment on the matter saying she could not speak unless directed by those in higher authority.

    Now articles like this are really misleading! There was no where in your article where the Ayer said he was slapped or anyone for that matter? It's normal for suspects to be transported blindfolded and handcuffed especially if he is an important suspect.
    I am not taking ny ides in this Rivers state matter but after watching the video, I can't ok plain if Chidi Lyodd is arreasted!mand he must surely be found guilty ( video evidence peeps) !. However all other people involved should as be questioned and arrested too!

    Justice should be exercised fair and square. A nation that is not spared of drama and more violence is a nation where justice is selective. All the parties should be charged and allowed equal representation otherwise more violence will unfold and an already militarised Niger Delta may go up in flames for another cycle.

    Bonario, you have said it all. Just what I've been thinking. But then, the powers that be are dictating the tune, even if the case goes to court. The Police will say they saw no video footage of Lloyd being beaten and that's as far as they can go in their investigations. Lloyd seems to have the reputation of a strong man who Bipi was happy to describe how he beat him up and used him as the number one guinea pig.

    There is no where in the constitiution that says it is a crime to TRY to impeach the speaker. It is politics, there must always be opposition. Chidi ,s violent reaction is criminal and should be treated as such. What he did is very barbaric and inhuman. If Bipi ,s actions are found wanting,he too should be prosecuted.     Chidi Loyd is probably going to serve a jail term cos he almost committed murder. Accusations of Bipi battering other house members are mere rumours and can't be proven in a law court but Chidi was clearly seen on camera doing a good job or his boss Amechi. We must condemn all forms of violence in this country, I remember how those 4 innocent boys were brutally murdered in Aluu in the same rivers state...please Chidi Loyd or whatever he calls himself should not expect pity from anybody. we know theres an obvious political power tussle going on between Amechi and GEJ ,but Chidi just made himself a sacrificial Lamb!!!

    Let's be objective in our comment and sincere enough. Bonerio couldn't have come up with that statement if he didn't watch the video of where bipi was describing to his thugs how he harassed the pro amechi lawmakers. To let u kno this was shown on channels tv and was recorded vis a phone camera. The clip lasted for 10secs. I'm not in support of lloyd hitting his fellow lawmaker with a mace but if the anti amechi lawmakers had not started this molestation and attacking of their collegues, it wouldn't degenerated in2 that. Let just pray the guy hit with mace survive it and come bak home.
