'Kidney transplant will not cost more than $50k-Juliet Ibrahim writes about OJB

The Ghanaian actress posted a message on her instagram today asking people to stop insulting and  harassing celebs for funds for OJB's treatment. She also wrote that a kidney transplant doesn't cost more than $50, 000 and doesn't understand why people raising funds for OJB are requesting for $100, 000. See her full statement after the cut...

Two people I know have done kidney transplants and it cost dem a little less dan 7million each time (50k). And pls, d insults n harassments on celebz is outrageous, like she said, everyone has a right to spend dia money d way d want to.     Yes a kidney transplant will cost about $50 000, but then after the transplant the medication is also on the very high side which will also consume about $50 000. So if you don't have money for the medication there is no point going in for the surgery. It's painful enough that he has to ask go help from the public, help if u can and don't make him look like he is trying to steal from the public Ms Juliet.

    Factors that need to be considered
    1. Pre transplant dialysis costs- how many sessions of dialysis will he need to do before travelling?
    2. Is he getting the kidney for free?
    3. transport, accommodation and maintenance costs in a foreign country.
    4. He can't go alone, he needs some support
    5. Post transplant care - remember he is not going to be working for some time.
    6. Do you want him to keep asking for money at each stage of his needs?

    What she is saying is true.

    People need to stop shaming celebrities. They have their own responsibilities. If they can give,it's great, if not, oh well.

    And if they are asking the public to bring $15 million, the folks raising money should be able to give a breakdown of what the $15 million will be used for. Especially since we live in such a corrupt society.

    Also, they should probably set up 1 page/site where they share information that way impostors don't show up and post random bank accounts to swarve the money.

    My friends mother went to India for a kidney transplant... was supposed to be the cheaper option than 80K in Germany and over 100K in the USA (oh they live in the US).

    Guess what, they ended up staying there for over 6 months (it was supposed to be 2 months) and spent over the 40k it was supposed to be. All in all, they spent a boat load.

    Now if you have good connections and are feeling charitable, call him and offer the support he needs otherwise, belt up.
    Stop trying to make yourself famous by exploiting OJB's situation.

    A lot of stuff is happening in Accra, go get involved there.

    Miss juliet u mayb right but ur approach to d matter is totally wrong...have u gone to his house to see him to knw d extent his kidneys re damaged abi is there only one level abi stage of kidney failure?ur foundation,accomodation and transport is it covered for at least one family member?abi u want him to go alone?     She just didn't need that. What she did is just plain tacky. She could have spoken with him privately. Apart from the transplant itself, the medication he needs to take to prevent rejection of the donor kidney is also very expensive. Secondly do you guys think that Kidney will be free, except it is a family member
