Check out the first motorcycle produced in Nigeria

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has unveiled the first motorcycle produced in Nigeria, designed and manufactured by the National Engineering Design and Development Institute (Nnewi), a subsidiary of NASENI.

The 80C engine motorcycle was launched in Anambra state today. The agency is now asking the government to ban the importation of motorcycles, promising that with financial assistance, they can produce better motorcyles. #Yimz! Hehe!

The Vice Chairman of NASENI, Dr.Mohammed Haruna, said:
"About 20 million Nigerians today rely on motorcycles as a means of transport and many unemployed youths and men support their families or earn a living from running motorcycle as a commercial venture. Imagine the large number of jobs that will be created if only Nigeria could close her borders against the importation of motorcycles and allow entrepreneurs to invest in the manufacturing of the parts including production of the motorcycle locally.

    6. They should go and dump it to the museum of modern crap!. Cuz its a wasted effort.. if the institute is ready to evolve alongside this technologically challenging world, they should concentrate on emerging high end markets like smartphones, electric cars ,solar panels , industrial equipment.. (shut up!) Dont say nigeria is not ripe for that!..we have nigerians abroad doing great stuffs but the problem is how would the government wake up from its slumber to fish out these guys where ever they are and create challenging roles for them in all spheres of modern technologies. If we really wanna be giant of africa, then we should start trail blazing things in africa! Instead of this display of nincompoopery at this age.. lets get real. Motorcycle my ass!

  29. To begin, I must commend the NASENI! I hope this marks the beginning of the production of locally produced goods. With the level of human infrastructure in the country, I think it is fair to argue that 'autarky' should be promoted in Nigeria. Our reliance on foreign produced appliances is disheartening for a country that has a lot of graduates who specialise in technology. If our government can actually invest in developing research centres in our Universities and encouraging skills among our youth (beginning from secondary school level through to University and Post graduate education), I see no reason why Nigeria cannot become a modern emblem of self sufficiency and further benefit from a system of export oriented growth.

Secondly, I abhor the promotion of motorcycles as a means of transportation. Whichever way I look at it, I think the Dr Haruna's statement is part of the reason why we have not moved up to more modern methods of transportation. Taking the land mass of the country into account (or even a state like Lagos) we should be building trains, improving our buses and even building trams to ensure quicker and more efficient means of transportation and not motorcycles only. I do acknowledge that this depends a lot on electricity but thats another matter on its own.

Once aagain, well done NASENI and I pray that we achieve even better things as a country!

  30. Nigerian govt you should let the private sector handle this. Your own is to give us light and enabling environment. No govt in the world undertakes the manufacture of motorcycles.

  34. Tthere is alot of question to ask? where exactly do they manufactured it. there is no reputable machining shop or plastic industry in Nigeria where molds could be machined. or it is assembled in Nigeria like every other bike in nigeria

    ReplyDelete
  35. they shud face the competetion not ban importation. The product is not tested yet. Inquire more to find out that the engine has been cloned!

  44. Una see d issues with us Nigerians, instead of motivatin we love 2 pull down. When are we going 2 grow, if all do is to demoralise pple; rather than appreciate dia enthusiasm, creativity, invention, and d likes.

We value foreign more than local. But remember, dey all started like dis.

Kudos 2 u guys (NSENI), God bless u 4 dis creative invention.

  47. Linda, you are part of the problem with Nigeria. Instead of you to encourage them, you are there saying "yimz and hehehe". All those Asian countries that are producing everything that is being used in the US were once as poor or even poorer than Nigeria. China used to be a hell hole but see where they are now. When we begin to produce and consume what we produce, then our inferiority complex will be reduced to the barest minimum.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Lili, what's de bicycle's brand? You dint tell us haba, upon all de ogologo akuko.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I used to be like most of the commenters here and Linda too...Let's face it we all like finished and functional products but at the end of the day the benefits of having locally made products far outweigh the imports in the big picture. Here we are asking the government to provide jobs for the youth and this is an answer to that prayer.

The countries we import from banned foreign products all the time to encourage domestic growth of their products and local economy.

Rome was not built in a day...we now import most of our motorcycles and parts from china and india when we are equally as capable of producing them. I think we as Nigerians should start recognizing the immense potential of our geographical position and natural resources in the world.

LINDA PLS TRY TO PROMOTE LOCAL CONTENT WITH THE GIFT OF BLOGGING GOD HAS BLESSED YOU WITH DARLING. ITS IS WELL

  53. My father was an Ex commander of the Biafran Army ! He once told me a story about how the Government left the great biafran amination builders to die without impacting the Knolage to the Nation we all agreed to call ours (Nigeria). About fifty percent of the Amination & equipments used was made locally as at 1967. Today we import almost everything while some of the local made products are much appreciated in sub sahara Africa .The Government is beging to wakie-up to it's responsibilities, evey region has to bring it's potensals to the table that well enable Nigeria actualise the dream of a great nation.Am proud to be from Nnewi!

  54. #HopeforNigeria Those of you criticising should show me your own invention or kmt. Do you have any idea what it means to invent something? I bet y'all don't. It took Thomas Edisson several attempts, coupled with trial and error before he finally figured out how to make a bulb light. Let's encourage the engineers cos e no easy!

  59. Why do we find it hard eulogizing good tidings that comes from our own domain? Those fools saying " is this their morning", which means they didn't start early to produce bikes, why didnt u guys produce it urselves or are guys arms and legs amputated? U see a good and commendable effort of a fellow compatriot and instead of encouraging them, some are here bashing them, maybe becos it's coming from Anambra. If it's coming from Japan, Germany, America or China, many would have started asking Linda for their address so they could purchase their own.
