Pres Jonathan denies involvement in NGF elections, urges Governors to resolve their differences

State House Press Release...
We have noted with regret the mischievous effort by sections of the mass media to portray President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as an interested party and the main loser in yesterday’s election of the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF).
Contrary to the impression of Presidential partisanship and interference in the affairs of the Governors Forum erroneously conveyed by some headlines in the media today, President Jonathan who is currently leading Nigeria’s delegation to the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa had no preferred candidate in the NGF elections and could therefore not have been “floored” by any other candidate as some newspapers sensationally reported.
President Jonathan has the greatest possible respect for the Nigerian Governors Forum as an independent body of mature, responsible, and knowledgeable elected political leaders who have a critical role to play in strengthening democratic governance in the country, and who are quite capable of running their own affairs without being tele-guided, as some media reports misleadingly implied.
The President has always shown a willingness to work harmoniously with any leadership freely and independently chosen by the Governors Forum for the collective progress and development of all sections of the country and will continue to do so.

He has not in the present instance or ever before, interfered in elections to leadership positions in the Governors Forum. Reports in the media which convey that impression are totally off the mark and the handiwork of mischievous individuals and groups with the intention of sowing the seeds of discord and disunity in the polity.

President Jonathan trusts that as true democrats and respected national political leaders, members of the Governors Forum will quickly resolve the issues and differences amongst them which emerged yesterday and continue to contribute effectively to national development as a strong, and progressive body.

Trust me,there is mighty constitutional powwer to it.FG claims to have no hand in it,I see your finger prints all over.If an election is conducted n the result doesn't go down well with you (probably from all the bile they exude) why not do the right thing by contesting it in court instead of over ruling..where's d democrasy we preach?

  3. The chairman of the Governor's forum indirectly wields soo much influence in the emergency of any presidential candidate because precedence has shown that.

  7. Why does the president respond to every little thing. Its a bit petty i think. The real issues that require transparency are not addressed. But theee minor gossips are really taken seriously. Think its this reuben. He sounds petty folosh and spiteful

  8. Say for me, this NGF should be abolished becos it's culminating into one hing hat might be deadlier than Boko haram. When Soyinka and co brought students union in our various institutions then, their aim was to have a create a forum for students so that they would not be subjugated, but today, we all are witnesses as to how the supposed good tidings, now bought us pains and sorrows( the cultism in our institutions).

So, if care is not taken, Governors forum in Nigeria is becoming another epidemic in our nation Nigeria. Let every governor go and mind his states bikokwanu. They are not supposed to be seen romancing with mr. President or the presidency. Either HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY or SENATE should be abolished and whichever one that should remain, has to be a job based on part time. Our legislatures should be school teachers, principles, doctors, lawyers, journalists, bloggers, traders, mscians etc but will always gather for two or three times in year for sittings and all gather together in a case of an emergency. Not taken thir legislative posts as a full time job. They hold be closer to the people that voted thm who they re supposed to be representing, thereby knowing thir problems and taken it to floor of the senate on the day of sitting. U can't be in Abuja and claim to be representing Linda Ikeji when that same Linda can't see u freely at will to lay her complaints to u as one who represents her. Fellow LIBers, lets vote me in power to reorganize and resuscitate our dear nation NIGERIA from slumber and state if QUAGMIRE.

  9. The people think that we are fools abi, idiots. First because of the problem between GEJ and Ameachi and he's the chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum you create PDP Governors forum and make Godswill Akpabio the chairman over Ameachi because he's PDP Governor. Now Ameachi has been re-elected as the Chairman of NGF Akpabio is saying they will protest against the election. Who doesn't know that Akpabio is just an errand boy for GEJ. Am still here chilling and wetin as the drama unfolds *ThatFunctionGuy*

  13. Some media got it wrong,if Gej has PDP has interest on the said NGF PDP governors from the north will route for Amaechi but that did not happen,Northern governors wants one of their own to be the chairman of NGF which they did not get..i wonder what some media houses have degenerated themselves to such mouth piece of Tinubu and Buhari..Out of 23 PDP governors 14 voted against Amaechi..so why all these noise?

  14. President GEJ is a good example of the proverbial woolf in sheep clothing. He knws about the evil plans but always claims he doesn't. I wonder why him and his corrupt political aids are so bitter that Gov Amaechi won the election. Gov Akpabio is the biggest "push and start " human being I have ever seen in my life. They should accept the result of the election jor! GEJ is a failure as far as leadership is concerned. Please don't ask who I'm I! I'm a Niger Deltan.

Me sef I dare Uncle Ruby Abati to say amen.....#talkingrubbish:). The man he said was leading AU delegation was drunk and missed his speaking slot and only showed up during the photo session.Yet Ruby still finds a pen to write, destroying all he stood for. #shame!

  20. Mischief all the way....You said all these and yet could not find the time to congratulate the declared winner. Well, possibly a pointer that the result would still be contested. I am just wondering when we will truly start living the ethos of democracy in words and in deeds. God bless Nigeria.

  38. I am disappointed in the presidents media people. They are totally clueless at doing their jobs. I feel sorry for Mr president. If I were them next to the "HURRICANE AMECHI" headlines there should have been correct headline lines like " JONATHAN WINS! GOVERNORS FORUM IN DISARRAY " or in soft sell media " GOD HAS TURNED ENEMIES OF NIGERIA AGAINST EACH OTHER NGF IN CHAOS" make things exciting instead of sounding like broken radios -irritating and senseless. Abati and partners una no try at all. You sure have misplaced your vocation.

  39. This type of an excuse from the presidency is rather unfortunate indeed and it really casts aspersion on the the general sensibility of all progressive nigerians. Why do the political leaders often take nigerians for fools?

  48. If President Jonathan has respect for the NGF and has no preferred candidate then he should have shown himself as the bigger man by congratulating Amaechi. He should consult me to learn how to turn every situation to his favour. Lol
