Same here! Stopped work a week b4 I gave birth. Wore heels last in my 5th month for a wedding n I couldn't walk properly, hubby had 2 hold my hand all thru cos it kept hurting my back. Wonder how she manages.. D dress wolda been lovlier on a flat sandal..

Womens feet get swollen during pregnancy primarily because the baby's weight compresses a major vein in the body that helps in returning blood from the feet to upper body(THE INFERIOR VENA CAVA) making the return poor, hence accumulation of blood below. When your legs swell doing pregnancy plus pregnancy induced hypertension and protein in urine that means PreEnclampsia. Another type of swelling is Odema. if the leg is just swollen like that without any of the afore mentioned stuff then its probably Water retention caused by too much absorption of salt and wearing uncomfortable shoe wears. Mine didn't swell during pregnancy tho I avoided heels from the 2nd trimester. Swollen feet is caused by water retaintion in the body and sometimes too much stress. I remember one of my friends feet was swollen during pregnancy and her doc adviced her to rest, that she shouldn't even do house chores for a while, and like magic the swelling was gone after 3 days. Btw kim is hurting herself by wearing those heels. Na for old age she go hear am #back ache things.

@linda, swelling of the feet during pregnancy is a condition known as OEDEMA. It mainly occurs when a pregnant woman consumes a lot of spicy and salty food. Stress and standing for 2 long or walking a long distance could also be a cause of Oedema. Kapish???

your feet swells cos there is a large vein called IVC that returns blood from lower body to the heart. That vein gets compressed by baby so it doesnt return fluid/blood as well and the leg retains it. But if face and hands are swelling, its most likely a sign of pre-eclampsia..

Another type of swelling is Odema. if the leg is just swollen like that without any of the afore mentioned stuff then its probably Water retention caused by too much absorption of salt and wearing uncomfortable shoe wears. Mine didn't swell during pregnancy tho I avoided heels from the 2nd trimester. Swollen feet is caused by water retaintion in the body and sometimes too much stress. I remember one of my friends feet was swollen during pregnancy and her doc adviced her to rest, that she shouldn't even do house chores for a while, and like magic the swelling was gone after 3 days. Btw kim is hurting herself by wearing those heels. Na for old age she go hear am #back ache things.

ReplyDeleteA pregnant womans feet swells due to increased pressure of the foetus on the lower extremities, that is , the baby exerts more pressure on the legs causing edema on the ankles and feet and because of the pressure, there is greater force needed to send fluid and blood back to the heart from the legs so some fluid retains although there could be pathological retention of fluid. ReplyDeleteyour feet swells cos there is a large vein called IVC that returns blood from lower body to the heart. That vein gets compressed by baby so it doesnt return fluid/blood as well and the leg retains it.
