Okikijesu Olawuyi: the baby born without a skull

The incredible people at Global Initiative for Peace Love and Care (GIPLC) an NGO based in Abuja with a strong bias for orphans and vulnerable children are doing a great job and I wanted to share something phenomenal they did recently - the case of Okikijesu Olawuyi.

Okiki was born in May 11 2010 without more than half of her skull. A rare medical condition called Congenital Cranial Deficiency.

All of the hospitals visited by their organisation home and abroad could not offer a cure or lacked the facilities and man power except for the John Hopkins hospital in Maryland, Baltimore USA where the director of Paediatrics Dr Ben Carson is the first doctor to handle an issue like this ever, only then it was on a conjoined twins joined at their heads (the Binder twins). Please continue...

When GIPLC became involved in Okiki's case and after due consultations, inquiries and findings as to how much it will cost to have Okiki treated, they were able to raise within the space of 72 hours the sum of $234,000 (two hundred and thirty four thousand USD) or N37,000,000 (thirty seven million naira)and deposited the complete sum to the John Hopkins Medical which was their required deposit to commence the series of surgery on Okiki. She will now leave Nigeria in the company of her parents for the USA by April 2013.

Okiki is not the first child GIPLC has sponsored overseas for Medical attention. They have for a period of six years raised over N120,000,000 (one hundred and twenty million naira) for children with debilitating medical condition. (See it here - www.giplc.org)

Okiki's is special because no NGO in the history of Nigeria has accomplished this feat, to raise the sum of N37,000,000 for a single individual!

GIPLC World Press Conference comes up at Transcop Hilton in Abuja on the 26th of March 2013.

    2. Good on the part if this organisation. I am impressed. Where are all those thieves that had stolen nigeria's money? Obasanjo could not fund the operation to help this precious gift from God, instead the stupid man took african politically empowered robbers to UK to launch some stupid foundation. Jona dey there dey drink ogogoro like water, in the same Abujah he did nothing, naa nollywood actors he dey promise 3 billion naira.. Make una all no worry, God is on his throne watching. He'll pay everyone back soon.

Every one that contributed to thus fund shall be blessed In Jesus Name.. Amen

  18. Wow! I'm touched. I hope to have my own NGO someday, so I can help homeless and sick children. Most of these other NGOs are just liars, looking for how to loot. I've worked in one that is owned by a very popular lady, and I was more than dissappointed by some of the lies she was telling. May God bless these people for doing what they are doing.

  48. @ Prittchy Abj: you don't get to criticise cos you can't be too sure why linda has not put up d story. Could be from trying to confirm the authenticity or it could stem from d fact that maybe she has not gotten the name. Saying its becos the ailing lady isn't kim or genevieve is too low. Please don't be too quick to judge. Also Linda, like miss prittchy said, help for the ailing lady could and can come from you. Help her by publishing the story as soon as you can.
That said, I thank God that there are still people & organisations in nigeria that can come to peoples aid when needed. For the people running the NGO, God bless & strengthen you. And for the contributors, may you all never lack In Jesus Name.

  72. Wow that is remarkable, but honestly i dont know what kind of surgery they want to perform in this case, and what the quality of life will be. If she won't be living in the US, life will be hard on a day to day basis bcos she probably needs to have machines attached to her all the time. Especially since she's already 3 yrs before anything is being done, not sure how or in what condition she is in already.

  78. Good feat by the NGO. Atleast they did what most of our Private-Jet Pastors & their fraudulent Churches will be reluctant to do, since fueling their Lavish lifestyles is more important to them than carrying out full charity work which is meant to be the main purpose be their Ministry in spreading the Gospel...Once again, May God bless the NGO & its team.

  86. It is a pity that the world has not seen what GIPLC is doing in USA looting the fund meant for the upkeep of OKIKIJESU and her parents. Nuhu Fulani Kwajafa and Haruna Hua (GIPLC) are treating OKIKIJESU family like slaves in USA (the 2 of them followed OKIKI to USA). They put them in a Home, while a good Nigerian payed $10,000.00 for their rent and N10m given by the House of Rep, etc. Prayed that GIPLC will not destroy what they have built cos of greed.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Linda, you need to RE-WRITE your story on the celebrated NGO .The parents of Okikijesu are been treated like slaves here in the US.Try and get in touch with the parents of the girl and they will tell you more.

We the Nigerians should always learn from the way of life of the whites because if they think and behave like us Okikijesu would have long been forgotten, havng gone thru condemnations, negligence, segregation, deprivation and ejection from the hands of the Ibadan populace.May God 4give us all.The so-called rich people are just after themselves and their family so selfish and greedy may God 4give all of u.As for GIPLC may God continue to take u to greater heights and pay special attention to ur lives in all ramifications.amen.As for okikijesu God in his infinite powers will use the doctors mightily 4 ur healing to cause anoda great feat in the medical field cos u're d source of blessings to showcase ur parents and siblings to the whole world
