Movida nightclub boss Akeem Sodeinde's health worsens

The popular Lagos club owner and businessman has been battling acute diabetes for a while now. He went to India sometime last year for treatment and was getting better but according to people close to him, he was hit by another crisis that has kept him out of the public for months now. Akeem no longer runs his popular club, Movida. His younger brother manages it for now.

He's retired to his Oniru Estate home and hardly ever comes out these days. People who have seen him recently said he's lost a lot of wight and he receives treatment weekly from a hospital in Victoria Island. Akeem talked about his illness sometime last year:
"Yes I have diabetes and the truth is, three quarter of Nigerians are diabetic. It can't be cured but can be controlled. I used to drink a lot of champagne and Hennessy and sweet foods, so it affected me and my blood sugar went haywire. I don't drink anymore and I control my food in take because my health situation was really bad

    2. I love you. We share same faith. I have a terrible health issue too,tho not diabetic, but I am hopeful, alive and kicking. I live my normal life, I hustle and make my legitimate money like every normal person. Any day death strikes....glory to the name of Jehova. I must have done my part on earth. But again, there's still healing balm in gilead....God works in difficult situations, to bring glory to His name. So remain positive and enjoy life responsibly.

Secondly, Champagne, Hennessy & sweet foods don't cause Diabetes Mellitus.
Nevertheless the can worsen the prognosis of the disease.

  27. He is right, many Nigerians are prone to diabetes because most of our diet involves alot of carbs, most of the time its not only sweet stuff and sugar that causes it.

  28. To think this whole thing started at hilton hotel off allen where he was lodging with a gf that apparently almost killed him spiritually.Akeem na u know wetin u don put hand for,it's been said u've extremely sweaty palms which is very embarrasing and a symptom of something else

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes. A lot of people are diabetic and there is a need to educate people of preventing and treating diabetes.
Too many men including young men sporting humongous tummies and over weight women proudly showing off their 'curves'

Too much starchy foods and sugary drinks being consumed as healthy meals. I almost overdosed on sugar this christmas when I was there on vacation. Some fruit juice or sugary drink was always being served as a refreshment. Luckily I came to my senses in about 3/4 days. Gotta watch what goes into your mouth and EXCERCISE

    ReplyDelete
  30. Linda do a series on diabetes. At least your readers will be educated. Nobody should be dying from unmanaged diabetes

  37. i dont know why wealthy people dont like staying outside nigeria for an extensive length of time…i hope he realises that he is still young and his health is much more important that 1000 movidas..
he can afford it so why is he not checking himself into a proper, top class health facility abroad for a couple of months until he is stable and then come back?

gani fawehinmi as wealthy and known as he is,far adua both of them were misdiagnosed by supposedly excellent nigerian consultants which contributed to their deaths..

this guy should not put 100% trust in nigerian consultants but go seek medical help in a country where they have excellent medical facilities like the uk,usa cuba

  51. it is cclaimed diabetes is not curable but i read type 2 is reversible with diet and lifestyle changes.
i went for a test and my blood sugar was 8.1 which the doctor said makes me diabetic.after one week of diet and excercise,it reduced to 6.6 which is about the normal limit and i intend to continue excercising and dieting.
therefore, i urge LIB readers to regularly test their blood sugar level and shun softdrinks and other sugary stuff like plague.avoidin cigarette and alcohol and minimizing starchy food like yam, rice, casava etc will help.i wish you quick recovery dear.

  54. I really wish a fast recovery. It is scary how people go for check ups and realize they're living with one deadly disease or another. 80% of people that go for medical check up are positive with something deadly. May Almighty God continue to guide and protect us. Last Year my husband and I went for medical checkup and we were perfectly alrighty, this year i am diagnose with HIV. I am perfectly alright and no symptom or whatsoever, I just went for the test again which is the normal thing to do. How do I explain that?..... Ive bin faithful and still faithful to my husband. Bin careful around sharp object is what I don't joke with naturally or sharing of things that i know will be harmful is what I won't do. What possibly went wrong I can't tell. But I'm happy and living well. It just bothers me sometimes when I think about how people are living with deadly virus without knowing. Beware ppl.
