A text message I got from star actor Segun Arinze this evening concerning comments on a previous posts - Segun Arinze and family cover magazine. He wants to set the record straight about some misconceptions. See it below...
Dear Linda, I want to thank you for having such a wonderful blog. Having said that, I want to say despite the fact that we have freedom of expression doesn't give people the liberty to be reckless with words without verifying facts first. Someone said my wife cut across as someone rude. That's a big lie! She's the most courteous person you can think of. Sometimes people like to take the piss.
Now my full names are Segun Aina Padonou. My father, though late, was Yoruba from Badagry. My mum is Ibo. Arinze is the Ibo name given to me by my mum. So I used it as Pseudonym. That's why you have Segun Arinze. And as at the last time I looked in the mirror, I didn't see any ugly Segun. No human has a right to call another ugly because you ain't God. Lately ur blog have been a place for laying curses on people. U have been in this business for a whole six years & u need to improve, set the standards for people to follow. U had an interview on the Juice & u maintained u don't allow all comments but from what I see here, I don't believe so. U have been in this business for a whole six years & u need to improve, set the standards for people to follow. U had an interview on the Juice & u maintained u don't allow all comments but from what I see here, I don't believe so. I think the problem is that the comments are many that u don't get time to read since u work alone or u simply allow them go through. ReplyDeleteOne thing I've come to realised abt we Nigerians is dat most of us are critics, and we do it most time without using oue heads. I've come across Segun's wife 2ce wen I was still a teller @ a bank, close to Shoprite,Lekki, she was such a friendly person, very courteous. Even the aboki she called to buy hard currency from on one of her visit to the bank, you would thing they are friends ni.Same with Segun, lovely pple, and d man isn't ugly,shey dat one na ugly? Who told you a are yoruba? Sorry to break it to you but you are a Fon and igbo man just drop Segun aina as your name and keep arinze. Pandonou is a very popular name in Benin and Togo. I was raised as a yoruba but my grandfathers are actually from Benin(Fon-Goun tribe) and Burkina Faso(Fulani) who were born in Ibadan and assimilated and married into yorubas. Know ur family history.
