'Jonathan belittled his office by kneeling in front of Adeboye publicly' -Tunde Bakare

Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Latter Rain Assembly tells Punch:
They have signaled the campaign by going to kneel down before Pastor Adeboye. See, I am not saying that pastors should not pray for presidents, that man was representing an office; a whole nation crumbling before men of God because of political advantage they think they can get. And if the prayer will bail him out, let us wait and see. The truth is who is preparing for 2015, which faction of the PDP? Is it the (Olusegun) Obasanjo faction? Or IBB faction? Or Jonathan faction? The governors’ faction? Because PDP is a house divided against itself; it’s a chicken that has begun to eat its own intestines. By going to kneel down in the open before the pastor, the man (Jonathan) did not even recognise the dignity of his office. If it were a private thing, it is okay for you to crawl or kneel but it is a whole nation. That office has been diminished by a man who does not know the worth of it and does not deserve to stay there for one more day.
Who agrees with him?

  6. For the first time,I am commenting ,and this is because I am disappointed by the words coming of the mouth of the man have held in a high position in my mind!!
When did it become a crime to humble your self before God,regardless of whether it was in front of a tv or not. You don't see his heart ,am not Pro-jonathan,neither am I Pro-pdp but this is a sign of Humility to me regardless of whatever agenda is behind it. Am sure this is not the first time jonathan is visiting adeboye and he must have knelt several times for prayer whether its in front of a tv or not
I smell jealousy from bakare cause him and baba adeboye started their ministries at the same time and baba is fufiling a part of the scriptures that says "Kings and princes, leaders of the world shall kneel before you"
    God sees all hearts!!
    Enough said!

  7. Seriously, does this man ve any idea that there would be no nation if there was no dreation. Kneeling down while being prayed for by a man of God is just a way of acknowledging the Supremacy of God cos God is almighty and greater than any Office or nation whatsoever.

  9. What is Bakare's problem? If Jonathan knelt down before Adeboye it was because of what Adeboye represents and that is God. Bakare should stop being jealous.

  16. Hmmmm, I thought almost same when I first heard Jonathan knelt before Pst Adeboye for prayerS. Jonathan is a corrupt man, kneeling to get "more blessings" from God when he's dealt so treacherously with the people God assigned him to rule is unnecessary. He should spare us the public show & quietly go seek God in his closet. Pastor Bakare, there's no office too big to bow before God's anointed.

  17. disagree wth bakare jonathan did nt kneel bfre adeboye, he did bfre GOD,he is not bigger dan God yl he is d president of 9ja.

  20. Jonathan was not kneeling for pastor adeboye but for GOd because it is from him (the lord) whose the prayer was being asked and the forgiveness of sin.adeboye cannot forgive him his sins but God.and when Jonathan says amen..it mean let Ur will be done oh..lord.!!!!!I thought as a pastor this bakare man should know all these..instead of focusing in politics he should preach the gospels and win souls for GOd.

  21. I fear the call and the annointing of God in the life of a genuine man of God, therefore I refrain from getting involved when pastors say controversial things. However, I will be glad to hear Pastor Bakare issue a statement on the killings of Christians in the north, I believe that is a more important matter and one that should concern every man of God, I might have missed his comments if he did issue one, just that I hear too much politics from him and nothing on BH. My appologies sir if you already issued a statement. As for GEJ, I leave that alone even though I nothing wrong there.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hurtful as it sounds, that is a very true statement

  23. I agree with pastor TB,privately or even publicly he can prostrate all he wants for God,but kneeling before a pastor,a fellow man brings this exalted office to nothingness. Portrays a partisan subscription to religious sentiments which brings a divide with contrary religious beliefs. He has failed to realize that God is closer to him than even the pastor he is kneeling before by the virtue of his position as the president of Nigeria.
Its a real pity men who have been entrusted upon serious responsibilities have cowered from it,seeking "God" where he isn't.

  24. Like seriously wat de hell is wrong wit dis man abi is it becos he didn't come t ur chuch?..I knw u never like jonathan bt giving dis interview is uncalled for.does it mean dat president shld be prayed for in a closed room..God na only u knws best.GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

    ReplyDelete
  25. To an extent I agree wit him. But then I like to look at it in a diff picture, the man Jonathan rather than the president of Nigeria, there is nuttin wrong if the man Jonathan goes before adeboye for prayers, secondly I m not sure there is a place in the bible that says a leader can't kneel before a man of God in public for prayers or annoiting.... So bakare just hold ur peace, or r u fighting for God? Remember the story of those who tried to help God o in the old testament....don't judge. I rest

  26. I don't agree as much as I don't like GEJ he knelt at the altar of God and not for Pastor Adegboye

  29. @Sykeviewskyskypeme20 January 2013 at 01:53

If BAKARE said that, then he is telling us him and most pastors are fake hence it's shame for a whole president to kneel before them. Well I hardly depend on pastors as I have always seen them as regular business men if not they won't be buying private jets while members stand on bus stop waiting for danfo ( condemn buses).

Na only God I dey tell my problems , if u like be adeboye, oyedepo, oyakilome,Chris okotie, tunde BAKARE,even Pope self, we all have problems and should be channeled to almighty God and no one else.id you are not or have not been there ( rock life or done shady things before) cant be a pastor ,and those past things don't just disappear Forever.

So make this pastors go fry water drink jor. Na God don dey expose them, very soon BAKARE go say all the pastors including him na fake, last time he said efcc should arrest all of them including himself, guru Marahji said all of them use juju, well time shall tell.

  30. Hmmm so is it nw a sin to kneel b4 God weda publicly or private? He shudnt pray for the salvation of his own soul cos of nigeria? On the last day God will give him preferential treatment cos he's the president? Na question I dey ask o?! I can't believe dis?? Everytin Jona does now is abt campaign? Didn't Jesus kneel b4 his disciples to wash their feet as example? Is dat stil belittling? I stil dey ask o?! Heaven is a personal race o! Let God be the Judge.

  31. Guess tunde was talking on an empty stomach before he decided to grant this interview, cos if he had eaten well,he would ve known that there was nothing absolutely wrong in kneeling 1.in the presence God 2.kneeling before a man of God.my conclusion is that Tunde is just paying lip service to God

    ReplyDelete
  32. Am surprised at pastor bakare.Honestly sir,am so disappointed in you.Are u sure God called u?If a non Christian had talked this way,it would av been non-issue to me.Gej is kneeling before God almightyAnd not pastor Enoch Adeoye.Am wondering if I need to tell u that.Pastor Adeoye himself kneels down on several occasions while praying to God.It doesn't matter if GEJ is kneeling down before the whole world do u really think u would av done better if u were the president of this nation

  34. ℓ̊ do not agree with him one bit. ℓ̊ tot Tunde Bakare was a minister of the Gosple becos if he were a tru minister of God, he would know that Papa Adeboye carries more authority as a Shephard of the Lord over President Jonathan. ℓ̊ see nothing wrong in the president kneeling b4 the man of God weda for good or for bad. One thing ℓ̊ know is that, President Jonathan is not higher than God or any of God's servant cos they are God's representatives here on earth so, they have spiritual aurthorities over him.

  41. This Tunde Bakare man sef, is he a pastor of a judge? Cos he keeps pointing fingers here and there! I find it really disgusting!!!! Why is he always fighting people??? He should jst forget about "the church" and become an activist/politician so we can all rest! Mtcheeeeeew!

    ReplyDelete
  42. NYC-1 says: Dumb rhetoric! So when your congregation kneel before you during prayer, you think it is you they are paying homage to? Jonathan was kneeling before God, and not man. Showing humility to God does not in any way belittle or undermine his office. You inferred that he came for political prayers, how did you know? Don't he as a human being have spiritual needs? You and your pastor are jealous. Shame on you! If he had come to your church, you would have declared him the most righteous. Brood of Vipers and Cobras!

  51. Tunde Bakere is talking arrant nonsense! Jonathan humbled himself in d presence of God that is why he went on his knees for supplication!
Tunde Bakare is crying sour grapes cos d President did not come to his church.

I wonder if this Bakere talkative is a man of God or an agent of d Nothern Cabal coalition? This man is becoming annoying lately! We as Nigerians have tonnes of biting issues that require divine intervention, and this man is busy barking like a wild dog? As he is barking Nigerians continue to suffer and nothing changes!

The solution to Nigerias problems can only be solved if all Nigerians put all hands on deck and work as a united team! It cannot be solved by the worshippping of deities frm different factions of d political spectrum! These r mere mortals whose only interest for Nigerians r limited in scope and will fade as they die away! Ask Zik, Awo or D sarduana of Sokoto!

  60. Please lets ask Pastor Bakare, If King David didn't knelt down before the prophet Samuel to be anointed in the Bible?

    ReplyDelete
  61. I think Bakare is bitting more than he can chew.. The Office of the presidency is not grater than the office of a real man of God, He is God's representative on earth. He sounds like someone with so much political bitterness. If he didnt win the previous elections, it means he wasnt meant to be there. And by the way, why should Tunde Bakare be contesting elections? He should concentrate on his pastoralship and leave politics. btw, MY opinion though. @ JESSICA

    ReplyDelete
  62. Is d office greater dan God? Tunde Bakare shld mind his utterances before d wrath of God wll be upon him

    ReplyDelete
  63. Certainly not me! Kneeling down before a Man of God does not diminish the office of the President - it is the deeds and misdeeds of the President that diminishes his office.

  71. Thats all rubbish. No one is too big to kneel before a man of God. Nigerians should learn to put their pride aside. In a way he is making a point but i dont think he should have said he 'belittled' himself.

  77. Get ur acts together Mr.Tunde, The president did not kneel before a man. He was in the house of God and whatever way he choose to communicate with God is none of our business. However we continue to pray that our leaders fear God and abide in he's way. If they did Nigeria would have been better than what it is today. In order words Ms.Linda i do not agree with Mr.Tunde.

  96. Thought he was keen idling in front of God. David danced a crazy dance even though he was king so I have no problem with a king humbling himself in front of God if genuine.. However it is obvious Jonathan did this to get Christian votes for 2015. I am not easily fooled that he did this in spirit and in truth but only God knows.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Hhhmmm;what's the big deal there..or is a whole nation above prayers or above God?? I totally disagree with bakare cos every man's problem can never be the same and I think GEJ was man enough to kneel down for prayers..so why critisize him?? Nawa ooooo!! Even pastors don dey gossip nii!!

  101. Mr Bakare I think you call yourself a pastor, then you should understand that God is greater than all offices,be realistic rather than politicising presidents kneeling down in front of God......Or are you a learner?

    ReplyDelete
  102. Just wondering how this Tunde Bakare thinks sometimes. So if you are a president you can't worship God in the open again.Let president Jonathan be. You are not better than him in anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  103. BAKARE IS A DISAPPOINTMENT. ASSUMING PRESIDENT JONATHAN ABUSED ADEBOYE, I AM SURE THE SAME BAKARE WOULD HAVE SAID JONATHAN HAS ABUSED GOD BECAUSE HE ABUSED GOD'S SERVANT OR GOD'S REPRESENTATIVES. I AM NEITHER A PROFESSED CHRISTIAN NOR A PDP SUPPORTER BUT I FOUND BAKARE'S STATEMENT REALLY ABSURD. IT IS AMAZING HOW PEOPLE CAN DO OR SAY ANYTHING BECAUSE OF POLITICS. JONATHAN WENT TO THE HOLY CONGRESS IN HIS PERSONAL/PRIVATE CAPACITY NOT AS A NIGERIAN PRESIDENT. IF BAKARE STILL READS THE BIBLE, HE OUGHT TO KNOW THAT BOTH DAVID AND SAUL KNELT BEFORE SAMUEL WHEN SAMUEL ANOINTED THEM, YET BOTH WERE KINGS OF ISRAEL.....
BY THE WAY IF BAKARE IS STILL DREAMING OF BECOMING THE VICE-PRESIDENT, HE HAD BETTER WAKE UP AND FACE REALITY. THE ALLIANCE CPC AND ACN ARE TRYING TO FORM WILL NOT ACCOMMODATE HIM AS V-P. I GUESS THE EARLIER HE SEES THE HANDWRITING ON THE WALL, THE BETTER SO THAT WE ARE SAVED OF THESE SORT OF POLITICALLY MOTIVATED BUT SILLY STATEMENTS FROM HIM.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Pastor Tunde Bakare is d worst person for dat position. Wat GEJ did was just to show dat he still has respect for God. Pastor Bakare no go fit enter church talkless of kneeling down to pray if he becomes d president o

How do you know it is for political advantage. Stop criticizing, and start orying. That is why I do not appreciate some Nigerian pastors. Competition shld not be your forte. RESPECT YOUR POSITION. 116. Bakare fought to be vice-president to a religious fanatic whose foot-soldiers are daily engaged in wiping out Christians in the North. Instead of lashing out on boko-haram and its sponsors he is here diverting attention and making an unnecessary, biased, arrogant and stupid comment on GEJ and supposed enemy. What a misplaced priority by a supposed pastor!

Mumu Jona should know he's a president of the nation constituted by different tribes, religion, culture and beliefs so kneeling down before a pastor in a public glare will simply provoke some section in the entity called NIGERIA. We shall get there some day.

  128. Pastor Bakare, you come across as a hypocrite. Are you mad that he didnt come and kneel before you? Presidents are human and they also have the right to practice their religion. If he was going to church and kneeling down in front of a pastor before he was a president, so he shouldn't do that anymore? Whether he kneels down, lies down, jumps up or sings in the church choir will not change our view about how bad his presidency has been. Just being objective. FYI: In the future, while I am all about freedom of speech and expressing yourself, you truly come across as dabbling too much in political issues. Shouldnt you face your ministry and use your platform for constructive and sensible criticism.

The office of the prophet/ Pastor has always been higher than that of the ruler of nations. They anoint kings- David, Solomon, etc. If you knew, you wouldn't abandon yours for a political office. Wisdom is the principal thing Tunde.

  148. It is just unfortunate that Tunde Bakare call himself a man of God. I reserve my comment. He is just 2 jelous of the man. All in the name of politics, haba it is 2 much

    ReplyDelete
  149. This man hs spoke like one who's truly power hungry, and desperate for attention.

Mr. Bakare, for a pastor you sure sound like you need to brush up on your biblical story/ lessons? Remember one of the reasons why King Saul lost favor in the sight of God? For those of you that don't know this story, King Saul was to go to war, but as custom demands, he was to wait for the priest (Samuel) to come and give a sacrifice. Samuel was running late and instead of him to wait (since the sacrifice was to be done only by a the Priest Samuel), Saul went ahead and did it, well that was the beginning of the end of his ruin. What am I saying, am not one to worship men of God, but their is a place and time for everything, that Jonathan is a president does not mean he cannot seek counsel or prayer from a man of God. And Mr. Bakare, you also seem to forget that verse in the bible that says God is not a respecter of person, in other word, be yea president or King, Nations, are to bow in the presence of the almighty.

Igbo's have a proverb, onwu ga egbu nwa nkita adi ekwe ya nu usi nsi... Mr. Bakare, u really need to seek counsel before speaking publicly.

    My 2cents!

    ReplyDelete
  150. Its not like we all are happy with GEJ's running of the nation but GEJ is first and foremost a christian before been a president and if his nation needs help kneeling for prayers shouldn't be an issue, if Tunde is a real pastor he would know GEJ didn't kneel before Adeboye, he knelt before the exalted thrown of grace of God. Pastor Tunde continue running your mouth because of politics, you are just showing that you are more of a politician than a pastor. In Pastor Tunde's words... "(GEJ) does not deserve to stay there for one more day" That's very politically motivated and shows a very subjective reasoning.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  154. Pastor Bakare no man is too big before the God in whom he or she believes. So if u had become president it means u wud have equated urself to God...pity such comments are emanating from u of all people. The moslem presidents go before their mosques and still bow with their heads to the ground so what makes u think Jonathan should not have knelt down? U leave such intents and purposes for God to judge and not u to presume.

  156. So in Tunde bakare's opinion (who by the way is also a man of God), the president of a nation (appointed by humans) is higher than a pastor (appointed by God)????? Smh this is just sad. That a man of God thinks an ordinary president is more relevant in the scheme of things than him. Sad.

  159. My goodness! I'm not crazy about GEJ and really can't wait for him to vacate aso rock but one thing u can't take from him is his humility! Pastor Bakare u of all people should know dat he is Christian before being a president and I bet u it came naturally to him. We Christians kneel to pray to our God if u still remember?? President Yar adua never stopped sitting on d floor in front of his imam to pray cos he was d president? Wat is going on here? Even if u've lost all respect for ur self cos of money have u lost ur mind? Have u lost ur fear of God? Pastor Bakare if u wer in pastor adeboye's shoes and d president knelt down for u to pray for him, would u have granted dis same interview and castigated him like dis?!! May God have mercy on u.

A president kneeling down for prayer is not much. Okay is it expected that the pastor should be kneeling down while praying for the president

    ReplyDelete
  162. I don't agree!
When people kneel for prayers, they kneel before the one who is being prayed to, and NOT before the man who does the praying.

When spiritual leaders kneel while praying, who are they kneeling for? Themselves?
    Na wao!!!

    ReplyDelete
  163. I totally disagree with Bakare. All I see is a man who humbles himself in the eyes of God...... And that my friend is admirable.

    ReplyDelete
  164. This is so true. But am I surprised? The answer is NO! Jonathan is a man known to lack wisdom from birth.

By the way, if he likes he should crawl on all the over a million pulpit of churches in Nigeria. He CAN NEVER come for a 2nd term. He has succeeded in emptying the treasury of Nigeria. Very soon the Chinese, IMF and World bank will put Nigeria up for auction to the highest biddest because Jonathan has thrown us into terrible debt. The next 5 Generations might not be able to wipe off such debts unless a miracle happens.

Once the Nigerian people most especially the youths set aside religious and ethnic sentiments and fight for a united course, then and only then alone will Nigeria get better.

But, if he is true to repentance, what he has done, is nothing wrong. i repeat, he was kneeling before God not before a pastor.

Jonathan goes there in order to make an impression on the large audience, for political gains. And of course our "men of God" are up for the highest bidder.

Anyway, this is the kind of deception Nigerians like & deserve. That's why this country will remain in this hole for a long time.

  186. Prayers in these Ngerian churches is like rituals. The language, tone, and way it is conducted does not differ much from that of native doctors.
