'Why I shaved my hair' - Actress Halima Abubakar

"I was invited to participate in cancer awareness campaign by Waodiva and MTN. They did workshops on cancer, and a lot of survivors attended. I cried when I saw them. It was really shocking that people can go through that traumatic experience. I now decided to take off my hair as a way of honoring them. If you shave your hair, you understand better what it is. If you have someone that has gone through the ailment, you will understand what I am talking about. They normally cut their hair. Who doesn't want hair? Hair is every woman's glory. Shaving my hair is my own way of supporting the call against the dreaded disease." - Halima

  3. While i respect her view how does shaving ones hair really help cancer ..... Its like those celebrities who are stripping for cancer . Does it really help

My dad had cancer and the best you can do is be there for them as a support through the process. Just that moral and emotional support makes a huge difference. AS for shaving i really cant see the connection , except if you are donating the hair to be made as a wig for cancer victims .

  16. You should have donated the hair if you felt srongly about cutting it cos if u didn't, well I dunno why you bothered! You should have tied ur hair while going for the meetings or just being there for them morally and emotionally. Your reason is just too cheesy. (Just my own opinion)

For the cynical FOOLS here, no she's not looking for ur approval, she shaved here hair as a way of CREATING AWARENESS about d dreadful disease, hopefully with this, people like myself will go get checked, lets not forget remi Lagos died recently of cancer,,,,,,, so for anyone to come here and discredit what halima has done is just beyond the realms of stupidity and ignorance!!!!! This is for Billie jean and co. hiss

  21. If she is really interested , she would have researched about cancer and know that they dont cut their hair.... The Chemo makes the hair fall out .

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anon 5:19pm it's about creating AWARENESS for the disease...why should she undergo chemo when she doesn't have cancer...obviously the awareness is working cos we r all here talking about it

      Delete
    2. If u had done ur research as well u'll knw one of d side effects of chemotheraphy is hair loss. Most patients decide to just shave their hair off instead of watching bits n pieces of their hair fall off unevenly. So YES most cancer patients shave their hair off! Other parts of d body where hair growth is miminal, like d eye brows n eye lashes, lose all d hairs pretty fast unlike d head.

The fact that u wouldn't do dat or can't relate with it does not mean u should criticize her, if u can't appreciate her effort just move along, don't bring down others just b'cos dey have a different approach to handling things contrary to ur way, and if u want to come her cursing, back @ you already and FYI, I'm not Halima, I don't even know her

Its like Tonto too, nothing remain and you need new growth so that you have something to attach to your peruvian hair. Your wig had started itching already as we can see the white scaly bits hence your shaving your hair.

  47. People do this at my job everyday and trust me shaving their hair is not the only thing they do to help. It is just a way to show respect and somehow connect to patients. I am sure Halima is doing much more than just shaving her hair. All you nasty people commenting negatively deserve hot seats in hell. So bitter and sad. Thanks Halima. But one thing I know, halima hair is nothing to talk about because all d front is gone maybe cos of too much weavon. I can bet shaving her hair off is becos of the serious damage too much weavon as done to it. Dis is from some who had see halima natural hair and it scares me

  57. This is a worthy thing to do. All of u castigating her, what good thing have u ever done for a friend in ur life without expecting anything in return? How have u helped a stranger out. If she shaved her hair to show support for pple battling cancer, its so self-less of her, u dnt nEed to appreciate her cus she didn't do it for. The cancer patients and their family members that are reasonable truly appreciate...its shows identifying with them, giving them ur strenght when they don't have any, being their voice n face in a world full of self-absorbed human beings, knowing someone not related to theM noticed them in their trying times...Nigerians, where is your spirit of empahty and support..does it always have to be about u...u selfish, self-conceited, self-absorbed generation!! Think abt what u can do for someone else to make their living better. In ur offices, organize fundraising / NGOs to support pple with medical challenges that can't afford their treatment...no, its has to be abt how I can show that I'm better...think again...@ halima, u did well, maybe u shld just have seized the opportunity to also raise funds for cancer research and treatment...but over all, u did well and I pray that u and ur loved ones and everyone that appreciate what u did never experience the disease called cancer IJN...
