Uche Jombo off to the US for corrective eye surgery

God bless American doctors. The delectable actress and movie producer found out she needed corrective eye surgery after going for a routine eye test to get a driver's license in the US.

One of the prerequisites of getting a driver's license in America is to go for an eye test to certify that you can see clear enough to drive. So Ms Jumbo went for hers, since she now spends a lot of time in the US with her husband, and doctors discovered she needed corrective eye surgery, which she has gone for.

  1. It then means that 90percent Nigerians need that corrective surgery too.

  20. Definitely one of the requirements to have a DL issued here is testing your eye sight which is very important when operating a vehicle. I have a running joke whenever I visit naija that if every driver was required to take a driving test which would include testing your knowledge of the traffic rules, over 90% of the drivers would not be allowed to operate a vehicle. A lot of road accidents that occur in naija is due to drivers not knowing or following basic traffic rules.

You still have the guts to wish muslims happy eid? Linda, its obvious u r atheist/agnostic, don't insult God by calling his name.

    ReplyDelete
  41. She does not need eye surgery to drive, she can get glasses if it's just a matter of her sight...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Good luck to Ms. Jumbo. And for those that are asking about Mrs. vs Ms.; Linda is actually correct. If Uche is married she is Ms. Jumbo. The only time she would be addressed as Mrs. is if she is using her husband's last name which she is not using. In that case she should be addressed as Mrs. Kenney Rodriguez or just Mrs. Rodriguez and not Mrs. Uche Rodriguez. #my2cents.

  46. Its not about Uche or the news but about a functional system where this are done to protect the lives. Wish our FRSC can adopt this too and not a process where a certified blind man, lunatic and a 70 year old can obtain a license.

  47. These comments have killed me O! Especially the one from 'Anonymous October 26, 2012 5:23 PM.' Wei "aporoko." E be like say people no enjoy this Uche news.

  48. HabaLinda. This is probably just laser eye surgery instead of wearing a pair of glasses. This is not news abeg!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Linda dis can news u felt reluctant to post it. Thank God

    ReplyDelete
  50. What the fuck does this mean? I guess this is what happens when you believe everyone is equally ignorant. First off, she is probably near or far sighted. These are conditions that can be corrected with glasses or contact lens. She may also have realized she has cattaracts but definitely not from the eye exam at the DMV. We have done it at least 4 times now with ech move from one state to another. Nonetheless, if you are say near sighted, you can do laser surgery to correct your anomaly. We are yet to have a significant cohort over a reasonable number of decades to say we understand the risks of such surgery and the long term effects. There are other issues for which Linda no get space to deliberate on for dis blog. So Ms Jumbo, if you think it is sexy news to do eye surgery, please read the long sheet and fine print paper the physician gives you to sign. That is where you will understand that it is not a deal worth celebrating. Anyway, NIgerians no dey read fine print. We are so used to being stripped of our rights as humans and we have such an informal process for everything, fine print na joke. As you don cross ocean, make u begin read fine print. Anytime wey doc given you long paper say make you sign to release am of liability, you know you are now playing in the big healthcare leagues. Whatever.

  51. Linda doctors don't do the eye test. The person at the DL office asks u to read some letters through a little "machine thing" if u can't then u hv to go get glasses before u can come take your road test. So she has the options of getting glasses, contacts or "surgery". Lasik surgery is done in an outpatient setting i:e you go home same day and it does not take up to an hour. It is really not that serious

    ReplyDelete
  52. LOL... To the people who ask how is this news, I need to ask you "When did this blog become a newspaper?" Let Linda share what she wants on her BLOG... go somewhere for your news, sha!

    ReplyDelete
  53. U dont need a eye test for DL in the US. All they ask u to do is look at some letters and numbers and read by looking through a device. There is no way she discovered she needed a eye test by looking through that device. This story is too far fetched.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hmm. Very soon they will tell us that the nose job was 'corrective surgery' as well. *hisssss

    ReplyDelete
  57. ok,they don't require eye surgery at the dmv,if u have bad eyes they ask for glasses or contacts, she probably is doing the eye laser thingy which by the way doesn't really work.It doesn't mean she wont have license if she didn't do surgery and no at the dmv dr's don't do the test its regular people who make you read stuff.

  58. LWKMD so funny this news.

  59. Jay o LASIK is for someone who use glasses and wishes not to anymore ......I am sure jumbo doesn't use glasses, hope it goes great for her , the eyes is nothing to play with.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Which hind of lie is this? I dey US o! I have had my driver's license for years. Ha! You don't need any doctors eye checkup nonsense in order to get a license o. There is NO prerequisite of going for any eye test!!!! You do a written test, and take a driving test. That is ALL!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Good thread Linda. Many middle/ upper class Americans don't ware eye glasses anymore. They do Lasic eye surgery. The surgery runs into thousands of Dollars. While we are on this topic, it is good to acknowledge that medical care in the US is expensive. It costs about $8,000 for care during pregnancy and delivery. I wonder how many of our celebrities pay for this care. Many foreiners lie about their status or ability to pay and get free services at tax payer expense

  69. O Ma Gao (OMG) It is so very sad that a lot of you can't even see the essence of this report;

How many ppl still go for driving school bfr getin a driver's license in Naija?

How many medical checkups do they perform on you to make sure you are medically fit to sit behind the wheels?

What do our VIOs, and other related traffic agencies do on the road?

How many people are being killed by reckless drunken drivers on a weekly basis in Naija?

Leave Uche aside, see the news inside the NEWS

  70. If she misses her monthly period do not hesitate to tell us. Linda you and Uche Jombe are two local Girls

    ReplyDelete
  71. Why should Linda call her Mrs Jumbo? Is she married to a Jumbo? Linda has to refer to her as Mrs Rodriguez. Jumbo is her maiden name. Uche is her first name. Hope you educated now.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Linda get your facts right. your ignorance is baffling. you do not have to go to see a doctor before you get a license here o! she prolly realised she didn't have 20/20 vision and wont pass the DMV test and decided to see a doctor. before you post stories find how how things work in the location you are writing about!

    ReplyDelete
  73. If you have diabetes, regular visits to your eye doctor for regular exams are important to avoid eye problems. High blood sugar (glucose) increases the risk of eye problems from diabetes. In fact, diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in adults age 20 to 74.

If you have eye problems and diabetes, don't buy a new pair of glasses as soon as you notice you have blurred vision. It could just be a temporary eye problem that develops rapidly with diabetes and is caused by high blood sugar levels.

High blood sugar in diabetes causes the lens of the eye to swell, which changes your ability to see. To correct this kind of eye problem, you need to get your blood sugar back into the target range (90-130 milligrams per deciliter or mg/dL before meals, and less than 180 mg/dL one to two hours after a meal). It may take as long as three months after your blood sugar is well controlled for your vision to fully get back to normal.

Blurred vision can also be a symptom of more serious eye problem with diabetes. The three major eye problems that people with diabetes may develop and should be aware of are cataracts, glaucoma, and retinopathy.
