  5. You all think its funny right, but in the real sense it is not. Education is very important and that is the reason why those who really call the shots are never celebrated but are wealthy cause they use willing people like these artistes who look for an easy way out all in the name of entertainment to do the work and wear out themselves with a couple of bucks in their pockets while the real money is made by the ones with the brains and some level of education. Just look at 2Face's explanation, he tried to be funny but it was so obvious he had no idea about the word and quite a lot of them as well. WHAT A SHAME.

  14. Lol.. OMG This is sooo funny.. Lol I pity students of these days with all dem BB's etc and the constant abreviations ...its no wonder WAEC results are getting worse by the day. We have to start reading again as a nation! And by reading I dont mean blogs ..or hints magazine.. I mean reading classic novels, that'll help us expand our vocabulary. If penultimate becomes a trending word on twitter then you'll see people using it like say tomorrow no dey.. Just as how linda describes every well dressed person as looking "DAPPER" as if adjectives don finish for dictionary...
..Ngozi says so via my agbalumoberry

  19. I beg all you "over sabi,I am well educated" that are yarning nonsense...these so called uneducated kats probably make way more money than you do and probably even earn more respect. We are not meant to know every single word in the dictionary and Penultimate is NOT an everyday word so please take several seats and shut up

    1. Zinnia:
It's true, we are not meant to know every word but when you read widely, you will come across such words.

I got to know about "penultimate" as a result of reading Newspapers.

My people READ! READ!! and READ!!! For those who take foreign exams like SAT, TOEFL, GRE etc such words would be a piece of cake!

  25. Honestly speaking, this is not something we should take for joke. Imagine all of the "stars" that were asked the meaning of the word penultimate, none seemed to know it except one. To make it worse was Tiwa's explanation instead of saying I don't know it. This shows how much we give to learning and it is a reflection of the Nigerian society.

We need to do more particularly our so called University students.

The word really suffered in the mouth of the interviewees that night.

Kudos to those who got it: Dr Sid(why won't he get it; he is a doctor!), Ice Prince, Steve Onu(Yaw), Koffi(Candy man, Candy man) and others I can remember.

  31. Woah, really hilarious! Thanks for posting this Linda, made my day! But on a more serious note, i am disappointed in Nigerians. This just goes to show that not everyone who goes to school is fit to be called Educated. Was disappointed to see Tiwa Savage didn't even know the meaning. Shame really.

  51. its a lie, Tiwa Savage doesent know the meaning of penultimate? 4 real? the same tiwa that claims to have written songs for Monica, mary j blige? brought up in America? truth is she looks smarter than she is. did you guys xpect tuface to know the meaning? if he did, i would have eaten stones...

  52. All these I am smart people on here and I read a lot or is it I am well educated may you kindly shut the fuck up already. Sorry to burst your fucken bubbles but carrying the whole dictionary in your condescending minds does not put money on the table any longer. I am a tutor to international students at one of the top schools in the world. These dudes can calculate the toughest math equations and formula in a micro minute but their English is next to zero. It does not stop them from earning money or being GOOD at what they do. So kindly shut the fuck up please. Naijas and oversabi and I am better than you attitude..., after all is said and done, the average uneducated joe is doing way better than them.....long ass hissssssss

  57. @anony,3:47PM. PENULTIMATE means
    1,next to the last
2,anything that is next to the last, esp a penult.
from Latin paene almost + ultimate, on the model of Latin paenultimus.
for Example sentence ( your last sentence does not automatically follow from your penultimate sentence ). i hope u will understand it now
