NOA honour the 7 police officers who investigated Cynthia's murder

The National Orientation Agency on Friday September 21st honoured the seven police who investigated and arrested the men who murdered Cynthia Osokogu in a hotel in Festac in July 2012.

The seven police officers - ACP Damien Okoro, the Area Commander 'Festac', DSP Imoh Gregory, Woman ASP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi, ASP Agbaje Yakubu, Inspector Edo Joseph, Woman Sergeant Patience Biokoro and Sergeant Frank Okorobon all of Area 'E' Festac, Lagos, were awarded 'NOA Civic Recognition Award'.

The director general of NOA said the agency decided to honour the police officers because they did an excellent job. The DG said:
The whole nation was gripped with anger, fear and rage when this ugly, unfortunate incident occurred. These patriotic officers stuck out their necks to unravel the mystery. What you did restored Nigeria to the rest of the civilized world. You also restored some sort of succour to the family by arresting those that committed the dastardly act. When people are making such efforts, you must tell them they are doing well. It is for this reason we are recognizing you".
Well, it's their job na, abi? #justsaying! But maybe in Nigeria police officers need this kind of award to encourage them to do their jobs properly!

    1. Linda, pls say sth about this new tenement rate in lag ooooooo. Fashola is starting to irritate me. His excesses are getting too much. As a result of the land use charge, our house was valued @ 180 million naira, and I sure as heck know the house is not worth more than 40 million. Rent will go up for tenants in lag o. Cos I don't think most of the landlords will want to pay that money from their pocket o.

  5. AWARDS? FOR DOING THEIR JOBS? INCENTIVES ONLY CREATE MORE PROBLEMS. NOBODY WOULD WANT TO DO THEIR JOB UNLESS THERE WAS A CHANCE OF RECOGNITION FOR THEIR EFFORTS. AND WHAT ABOUT VICTIMS FROM POOR FAMILIES? WITH NO ONE TO OFFER AWARDS FOR SOLVING THEIR CRIMES, THEY ARE...HOW TO PUT THIS DELICATELY? SCREWED.

  8. It is actually their job. But when ever a job is well done, a little pat on the back to say one has done well will encourage them to do more and also open the eyes of others to do their job diligently. Ms Abi

  17. Ita waaaay too early for any form of recognition. What exactly is the recognition for anyways, in my opinion they did not go over and above the call of duty to track down the killers, this their job spec, the exact reason for being in the force.
Nigerians have PHd's for patting themselves on the back.

I'm sorry but I aint moved by these awards. This is what the POLICE is meant to do; that is their job for crying out loud!

These men were pressured from above; that was why they were able to get to the bottom of the matter.

How many high profile cases have the Nigerian Police handled to the letter? Also the girl's father retired as a top ranking military officer so why won't the case be handled with swiftness?

If the Nigerian Police Force can be this efficient, we won't have so many unresolved cases.

For those who have the opportunity of travelling outside Nigeria and seeing how the Police in other countries operate, won't you say this award is unnecessary?

I agree everyone needs encouragement but in this case, it's just not necessary. They should be commended by given an award? I rest my case.

  25. Linda, what is going on about those 2 guys that died inside swimming pool..Police should be able to find out about that....i know if is a rich man pikin now,we go see am for news paper and new news about it everyday

  26. In advanced countries, police are often not honored for this type of things.

In Nigeria, police should be honored for these types of things because the average police if truly messed up and you need ways to motivate them to do their job.

So I agree that they should be honored because it will motivate other police officers.

You know Naija people (Governors, Presido, Doctor, Pastors, Engineers, Entertainers, Bankers, the average Naija person for street...etc) like to be recognized..., even for the smallest things. So why not police officers too? They have to show they be big boy too now. lol.
