@1st comment, it may not be because of tribal reasons but compatibility. Anyway, do you want his in-laws to be speaking a language that he does not understand. They can even abuse him without him knowing. If he spoke Igbo, it may have been better because he would also understand Igbo culture.
Sometimes, tribe does matter if you want a happy marriage life. He would have had to pay over a million Naira for the bride price of an Igbo girl e.g., five million, depending on educational level. Teju, would run from that as a comedian.
Personally, I cannot marry Igbo because I don't want my husbands family to take over my kitchen and cook, cook, cook. I am conservative. Neither do I want a Yoruba man with many siblings that won't allow us to enjoy our marriage.
