That is according to the film producer, Obi Emelonye. Last Flight to Abuja is a thriller based on terrifying real events surrounding an air disaster. It features Omotola, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Jim Iyke, Uru Eke and many more. Have you seen the movie? Did you like it?

etcheeeeeew! The producer should be ashamed of himself to av gone on facebook to state the news. Who cares if the movie is no 2 in west africa. Rubbish ! The movie is a total arrant nonsense, just wasted my money. No body should watch that movie ooo ! Na wash ! i can count how many times Jim Iyke talked in the movie. Obi, u better cover ur face in shame.

  13. People, going by Nollywood standards: this movie is off the charts - Period!

As a movie critic, it is nowhere compared to its western counterpart blockbusters (airforce 0ne, conair, etc) but, the visual effects, scene make-up, story line narrative, cast, build-up and the whole package...we should be proud and encourage Obi.

He is a personal friend and I do criticize him a lot, but this is NollyWood redefined people!

  15. What a completely insensitive move to release this movie in light of what happened with the Dana flight. Of course, just what everyone wants to go see, a movie that can give them a mental picture of recently lost loved ones may have gone through right before the lost their lives.

I don't know which is more sickening, the fact that the studio has chosen to use this recent tragedy as a platform to market the movie or that people are actually going out to watch it. In any civilized country the decision to go forward with this at this time would have driven the movie studio out of business.

  22. Hi Linda and Readers.

I have always wanted to become a nollywood actress but lack in resources such as informations for castings and so forth. Besides I live in the U.S so any casting being held In Nigeria is definitely out of my loop.
I'm aware of the Houston 1 spot chance for the next Nollywood actor/actress but I was wondering if there are many other routes in the U.S?

    Thanks for your feedbacks

  27. wack movie jor.how can a film last for 45 mins?how can a plane crash and every1 survived except the bad guy? How can 3 hostesses enter a plane and only one was seen throughout the entire mishap?did the other 2 faint?

they spent more time showing us the trip of the various actors to the airport than what transpired in the plane.

the only moment worth watching in that film was when the pilot lost control of the plane(for 2 mins)
Pls this is so overated and Nigerians aint ready for such hi tech movies.

Nothing potted the decay in our aviation system.I thought this film was supposed to be about the sosoliso crash?
    It should have been named

    BEFORE WE BOARDED A PLANE.HISS

  58. LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO at first poster.

First, it isn't an easy feat to make a feature film, period! The money, time and energy one put into a risky business like film is a lot.

Having given kudos to Obi, let's me that this bragging would be worth it IF it was the No. 2 film at the cinemas period! Being No. 2 in West African cinemas is not exactly bragging rights, I am sorry to say. What project is Last Flight competing against? It's competing against crap Nollywood films, now let's brag when the film is competing against Dark Knight, Spiderman etc in the WORLD, i.e. in cinemas across the world. Isn't that the supposed aim of Nollywood, to be truly global? If that's the case, let's safe bragging for when that goal is reached.

  110. To be perfectly honest it is a forgettable movie. It has just been hyped immensley. They had some HORRIBLE special effect with fake moon and sky and airplane moving up and down like it was on a toy set. Acting was ok but nothing really gripped me. Concept was fabulous though. With the right execution it could have been amazin.

Very impressive ... Kodus to the makers of the last flight to abuja team. 98 percent is my rate.

  116. Its trully amazing to me how you can rubbish this movie. No 1 person has done a movie even close to this. Obi I salute you and your work. 9ja when will you all stop and see the bigger picture. Our aviation services are literally killing us. 1 person has decided to take a stand and not produce the usually love/fetish stories in Nollywood and all you can do is run the movie down. Linda sincerely I expected more from you and your readers! Infact your write up is very biased “Aaccording to Obi....” Come do ur PR better than this. Let's speak out 4 the victims of our nations plane crashes and encourage the individuals who actually go the extra mile to create the awareness. Atleast Obi Emelonye is doing something abt it. I praise the Last Flight to Abuja and welcome the change. Go out spend ur money and help the cause. This was money well spent for me.

  125. @the chap saying an arri alexa camera (best in d world) was used and it costs N650k per day; no wonder d film ended so abruptly - their money must have dried up. But then why were so many scenes blurry if d camera was that good? Abi na 2nd hand dem use?

The storyline was interesting but there should have been more flesh to the script to play out more xters. We have no clue what happened to some ppl after the crash, eg Kosoko d oga, the employee that didn't travel bcos of his daughter, etc.

The producer (Obi) and the pilot (Hakeem) actually showed up at Yaba to thank us for coming to watch b4 the film started. He pleaded that we should be GENTLE with our criticism - now I see why. People must have been asking for their money back - lol

Its clear to me as the producer of the film that a number of people commnenting have very little idea of cinema and as is being suggested by others, that their IQ is possibly low and they truly dont know how to appreciate a film that is markedly different from what they are used to seeing.

Yes the film is 80mins, which is feature length and as much as we would have liked to have made a longer film, that is the length this story required.

I am aware that some audiences have suffered from bad projection in some cinemas and so this would account for why they think the picture of the film is bad. Most negative commenters say there is no storyline, when there clearly is. Maybe the structure was too much for some to take or understand. They should also know that not every film has to be 2 hours to be in the cinema or explore every character's back story or resolve their storyline. I agree that the FX were not the very best in the world, but they were the best we could afford and the best ever seen in any Nolywood movie. Every new development in any country's cinema starts with a step forward and we took those first steps.

Its so disappointing that in the times we live in some Nigerians spend so much of their time online putting down Nollywood films and the filmmakers, and like many say, they do this without ever having seen the film or ever having achieved anything near what filmmakers like Obi has done here.

As a point of fact the film grossed the second highest amount (N8.35m) in Nigerian and all other W African cinemas in the week that it opened and beat all the Hollywood films such as Think Like a Man, Spiderman, Avengers, Madagascar and was only beaten into 2nd by Dark Knight Rises. Last Flight.. did this playing only in Nigeria when the other films mentioned are playing in other countries across W Africa. That is the scale of the achievement and it should be acknowledged and not rubbished or questioned. This is the second straight film with which Obi has achieved this important milestone.

For those who still need verification all figures are in the public domain and can be confirmed at www.boxofficemojo.com

Finally, I want to say that if most of the negative comments are real views (something which I am doubtful of as I am very aware of a hate campaign organised by supporters of certain well known directors who are clearly jealous of Obi's achievements) then this film has definitely polarised the Nollywood cinema audience and that can only be because of its visionary nature.

Thats all fair, but it must be made clear to everyone that this film was shot in December 2011 and before it was first premiered in London we consulted heavily with family of those involved in Dana crash and most agreed we should proceed with the film now rather than later.

As a producer I have nothing to prove as I have a long and distinguished career in the international film industry and I am committing myself to the West African industry in the last part of my career and hope and pray more of the cinema going audience in Nigeria can become more sophisticated in its appreciation of contemporary Nigerian/African films that have an international outlook and encourage the best African filmakers to stay or return home and make more films such as Last Flight.., which for all its flaws is just one step in the right direction. I hope most agree.

Friends, please support your own cinema people, because the others just want your money and dont care about our stories.
