GEJ asked the secretary to the government, Anyim Pius Anyim, to compile the names of these individuals and send to him. Former IG of police Tafa Balogun, former PDP chieftain Bode George, Former Bank CEOs, Cecilia Ibru and Erastus Akingbola all have national honours and have been indicted.

  6. This is good. Nigerians like title and awards a lot so this will deter people from committing crime so that they won't lose it. Hope it works though. We need 'clean' people in government/power not ex-convicts and criminals.

  9. Is this the most pressing problem our dear country has at the moment?
Will stripping them of the nonsense honours sort Nigeria out. I am tired of our leaders selling kerosine to the masses, buying roasted corn by the roadside, to score cheap goals while neglecting their real duties.
I don't see how this will sort the menace of boko haram or kidnappers.
    God pls save Nigeria.

  15. It is a right step in the right direction, National Honours is not meant for Corrupt government Officials and Rogue Bankers.

  19. LMFAO. When they will be dashing National Honours like tom tom, instead of focusing on making it so exclusive that only those who truly truly deserve it will get it. Abeg they should go and sit down.

Tomorrow now they will announce new list of awardees, including the likes of Tonto Dike. kmt*

  21. Only withdrawal?! Mchew. Useless man. What's that going to do? Embarrass then until they give up what they have stolen from the country? Or until they hang themselves?! Abeg find something important that will affect the everyday man and not this rubbish.

  22. Wetin bring tonto dike inside dis matter now?make una live dat babe alone now?wetin she do una?say she bleach come be like spirit na una bizness?i love dat gurl oh make una liv us make we marry oh

  23. So...is there a ceremonial withdrawal as well? To avoid having so many candidates for removal to begin with, they should simply be more discriminatory about who they give awards to. Whether or not they were honoured while he was president, all it takes is for the next president to 'return their honour' in the next couple of years LOL

  24. Better late than late than never; it reduces the number of criminals on the honors list. Good riddance to bad rubbish.....atta boy uncle Jona

  29. It is so damn annoying to think dat nigerians will applauded dis kind of cheap publicity stunt. Wat will stripping of d honors achieve? Will it stop the jos crisis? Will it reduce the pump price of petrol to 65 naira? Will it give us regular power supply? Will it stop the menace of boko haram? And some nigerians of shallow thinking applaud it. Where r the likes of Babangida, Alameiseigha, Odili on dat list of our first lady who is a perm sec of a ministry she has never been too....Mr President has once again shown d world wat d priorities of his office are. 32. Stripping them of the award how will it translate to good governance. See the sorry state of Ph-Enugu roads, a death trap, lack of power supply, insecurity in the country, increasing unemployment, GEJ lacks sense of direction and purpose. As we are talking right now, his cronies are looting the common wealth of nation overseas both at the state and federal level. Please make we talk better thing jare.

  40. Good move but is it jst 3 of them? I'm sure 99% of those recipients don't deserve the award..evn the person stripping the award off them should remove the 'log' 4rm his own eyes 1st!

  41. Good move jor, even d likes of Genevieve, mrs stph linus and d rest do not deserve such honour, what hv they done for our country, expect act and get paid for it.GEJ sometimes too mumu. This d first brilliant move he has ever made.

  42. Laugh out loud, that's all I can do. When they'll be sharing the supposed honorary awards like chinchin they never expect they'll come back and strip the same people of it. Its a good step but I think those awards should be more exclusive. Tomorrow you will hear Jim Iyke has it smh. Kech
