House summons Spanish Ambassador over visa denial to Nigerian Athletes

The House of Reps yesterday Wednesday July 11th invited the Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Alvaro Castillo Aguilar (pictured above), to explain why their embassy denied visas to the Nigerian Contingent to the IAAF Junior championship.

The 24-man team was billed to participate in the International Association of Athletics Federations championship which commenced on Tuesday July 10th in Barcelona Spain, but couldn't make it because the Spanish embassy denied the delegation visa to the country. They later gave a flimsy excuse. *hiss*

The House has mandated its Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Sports to investigate the matter and submit a report.

  2. the Spanish embassy are notorious for things like this, I have been to their country on their own visas many times and earlier on this year they gave me a 5 day visa even though they had issued me a 3 month multiple prior.

They have no respect or regards for our nation and indeed they should be made to explain why they would deny our national representatives "Athletes" visas to go for the games. If they think we are too corrupt then they should pack up and leave, no be by force after all you can go via other Schenghen states....................

  7. To all those insulting the Spaniards, well the truth is that no nation is obliged to admit people they don't want to admit into their country, so the Spaniards are within their rights to refuse to grant visas to Nigerians if they don;t want to- they do not owe us or anyone else an explanation. The behaviour of Nigerians in Spain has not helped either and Nigerian athletes do have a reputation for absconding, so you can't blame the Spaniards on this occasion!

  9. It baffles me when Nigerian dont look at the issues on ground. If you were to be in the shoes of these governmnents disrespecting Nigeria, would you be any better? As a Nigerian, what concerns does the governments show for you? Does the governments care about you? do they respect you?
Outsiders dnt respect us because we have not given them any reason for them to.

  20. I cant say this is the reason why the athletes were denied visa, but I feel for the athletes cos of the preparations they've made ahead.I want us to know that as individuals,we can change this nation a little @ a time by been the change u desire.Do something that u know in ur own little way can improve our reputation. My own small resolve is to throw waste(pure water nylon and the likes) only in appropiate places.GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

  21. Linda, you are asking why?

Because most of the Nigerian delegates will simply run out of camp on the last night of the competition and remain in Spain. Afterwards, they will travel to another Schengen country in Europe. Remember, Spain is a Schengen state and a visa for those boys to enter Spain simply means unhindered entry into all the other Schengen countries.

    End of story!

Linda, if you like don't upload my comment...shogbo!

    Omo baba says so....

  27. These are d implication of having a bad reputation.I don't blame them,we have to learn to behave our selves.I school in diaspora, recently my school has stopped admitting Nigerians as a result of their misbehaviour, crimes of all sort.Imagine students selling heroin and every sort of negative behaviour.
